The US White House and nine major pharmaceutical companies on Dec 19 announced deals that will slash the prices of their medicines for the government's Medicaid program and for cash payers, in his latest bid to align US costs with those in other wealthy nations.

The companies are Bristol Myers Squibb, Gilead Sciences, Merck, Roche's US unit Genentech, Novartis, Amgen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Sanofi and GSK.

00:00Because I think those three companies are coming in at a different time next week.
00:30We believe we'll make a true difference for American patients.
00:44With today's agreement, we believe that we have actually struck the delicate balance
00:49that there is to protect America's leadership in research and innovation, and at the same
00:53time ensure that patients pay a fair price for their medicines.
00:57We are on-shoring manufacturing to the U.S. to very rapidly, within the time of this administration,
01:02have the majority of our products produced in the U.S.
01:04Thank you, Mr. President.
01:06Improving affordability and preserving innovation and rewarding innovation is a very difficult
01:12balance to take.
01:14I think we feel the negotiations and the conversations have had the patient at the center throughout
01:21the entire time.
01:22So we were subsidizing the entire world, we're not doing it anymore.
01:25This is the biggest thing having to do with drugs in the history of the purchase of drugs.
01:32They've agreed, because I think those three companies are coming in at a different time
01:36next week.
01:37So they've agreed.
01:38Johnson & Johnson is one of them, right?
01:40After the holidays.
01:41What?
01:42Why?
01:43They couldn't do it faster?
01:44No, we're talking about TrumpRx.
01:45Oh, okay.
01:46TrumpRx.
01:47TrumpRx is doing well.
01:48As of today, 14 out of the 17 largest pharmaceutical companies, but they've all agreed, have now
01:54agreed to drastically lower drug prices for their American patients, for the American people
02:00and patients.
02:02This represents the greatest victory for patient affordability in the history of American healthcare
02:06by far.
02:08And every single American will benefit.
02:10So this is the biggest thing ever to happen on drug pricing and on healthcare.
02:16This will have a tremendous impact on healthcare itself.
02:19Johnson & Johnson is an example who's not here today, who will be here next week.
02:23They're well represented here.
02:25The United Kingdom's National Health Service agreed to pay the fair share for prescription
02:30drugs for the first time in 26 years.
02:34And we expect other countries in Europe will do the same.
02:37And if they don't, we're going to put tariffs on them, and we'll get the same amount of money
02:40plus.
02:41We'll take a nice return on the money.
02:44Thank you, Mr. President.
02:45The prices that President Trump left to the next administration on pharmaceuticals have
02:51gone up 25% until the President took office.
02:55We are reversing that trend and making sure that Americans can afford to get the life-saving
03:00solutions.
03:01I can tell you, by the end of this term, 95% of the drugs, we will have MFN.
03:08In other words, Americans will be paying the lowest price in the world, 95% of the drugs.
03:15All of the billions and billions, ultimately trillions and trillions of dollars that's paid
03:20to these companies.
03:21We're going to pay directly to the people.
03:24But there's another way of doing it, and that's getting the insurance companies to ease
03:30up and to cut their pricing way, way down and stay part of the system.
03:35So I'm going to call a meeting.
03:36It could be in Florida this coming week, or it could be back in the White House the first
03:41week, not the second or third week.
03:44I'm going to call a meeting of the big insurance companies that have gotten so rich by receiving
03:50money and really much far, far more money than they're entitled to.
03:56And I have a feeling maybe if they would act like these incredible, brilliant, responsible
04:01citizens behind me.
04:03We're going to Florida for a short while, mostly work.
04:09We have a lot of meetings scheduled.
04:10We're going to talk to the insurance companies and see if we can cut them way, way down.
04:15And if we can't, we just pay directly to the people.
04:18They buy their own healthcare.
04:20And I think very important today with the favorite nations, because drug prices are going to
04:25be down 400, 500, 600 percent, if you look.
04:30We did something that nobody's been able to do.
04:32So have a good flight if you're joining me.
