England spin coach Jeetan Patel told a press conference after stumps on day three that his side was left pining for the days of Graeme Swann as a lack of spin bowling options saw them dragged to the brink of Ashes defeat in Adelaide.Patel, the latest in a sequence of three assistants sent out to speak on behalf of an ailing team, admitted: “Would we have liked Graeme Swann out there? Probably, but it’s a reality of where we’re at and what we thought we needed for this game.“I don’t think Jacksy has bowled poorly, if anything he’s been a touch short or a touch straight at times. They’ve played him very well and looked to put him under pressure which is probably what you would do against a spinner of Jacksy’s nature, where it’s not his frontline skill. He’s probably 50-50."

00:00I don't think he's bowled poorly. I think if anything he's a touch short or a touch straight
00:13at times. You know, his pace has been a little bit down compared to Lyme. I'm not comparing
00:18him to Lyme, I'm comparing him to Will Jacks. And look, they've played him very well. They've
00:23used the crease, they've got deep, they've run down at him, they've used the offside
00:27and the leg side and they've looked to score, looked to put him under pressure and that's
00:30probably what you would do against a spinner of Jacks' nature where it's not his front-line
00:35skill as such. He's probably 50-50. Would we have liked Graham Swan out there? Probably,
00:42but we don't have him. So that's just the reality of where we're at and what we need for this
00:45game, what we thought we needed for this game.
