00:01Santa Claus is coming to town, but not on an open sleigh, in his book taxi.
00:13His team of helpers have bags of gifts and books for the kids at this shelter for homeless families in Berlin.
00:20Every year the non-profit organization Büchertisch, or BookTable, gives away more than 30,000 donated books to institutions and schools.
00:38Bücher sind natürlich ein Schlüssel einfach zu Bildung, zu Sprache, zu kultureller Teilhabe.
00:44Studies show that one in four German fourth graders can't read properly and that social conditions outside the classroom are the main reason.
00:53Grundsätzlich is it so, that many children have no books at home in these community meetings.
01:00But there are children who like to read.
01:02And to get a book as a gift, it can really reduce this exemption.
01:08New worlds for the 80 children who live in this shelter.
01:12And after meeting Santa and eating a lot of chocolate, for some, so the BookTable hopes, the start of a journey into their own imaginations.
