02:27Copy.
02:28Hey, get back.
02:29Get back.
02:30Get back.
02:31Is there more in there?
02:32Yes, yes, yes.
02:37We have three kids inside.
02:43Police!
02:44Something about hearing, you know, a child is inside.
02:48The hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
02:51Officer Devin Hunt joins officers Turk and Buchay at the scene.
02:56With the fire department still five minutes away,
02:59it's all hands on deck to rescue the trapped family.
03:03When I heard that there were kids trapped,
03:05I knew that I was going inside,
03:07and I knew that would be dangerous,
03:09but I knew there was no way that I could not go in
03:14and try and get them out.
03:18Where are they?
03:19Two more at least!
03:20My kids have to go!
03:21Five or six, they're saying there's kids inside.
03:22My first instinct was to try and find a way
03:23towards the back of the house,
03:24and Officer Turk quickly followed behind me
03:25into the garage.
03:26You're good, you're good, you're good.
03:27Police! Come here!
03:29The first thing we could hear was a man screaming.
03:32We're all here!
03:33Get down! Get down on the ground!
03:34We're all here, we're all here, we're all here!
03:35And Officer Turk quickly followed behind me into the garage.
03:50Police! Come here!
03:54The first thing we could hear was a man screaming.
03:58We're all here!
03:59Get down! Get down on the ground!
04:02We're all here! We're all here!
04:05We're all here!
04:07You good?
04:08Yeah.
04:09We're all here!
04:11The smoke was so thick.
04:13When I first went in and took a deep breath of that smoke,
04:18I mean, it was like somebody punched me in the throat.
04:22Get down!
04:23539.
04:25Advise FD to have your black smoke.
04:30In addition to the man,
04:32officers have been told there are three children trapped inside.
04:39I was scared.
04:41I was really worried for them.
04:49Get down!
04:50Get down!
04:51Come here!
04:51Once I kicked that door in, it helped ventilate the house.
05:00Obviously, heat rises and, you know, cold air falls.
05:03And it just created a nice flow underneath to crawl as low as I can.
05:10You're good.
05:10Stay low.
05:11It's a plus and minus in a way, because now you're feeding the fire oxygen.
05:17We're all here!
05:20Hey, come here!
05:21You're the kid!
05:25I'm sorry!
05:26I'm sorry!
05:27I'm sorry!
05:27Make sure you don't pull up front.
05:29Help me lift the guy!
05:31The first thing I saw was the man laying on the ground on his back.
05:41Looks like he's unconscious.
05:42Stop!
05:44Where is it?
05:44Right here!
05:45Hold on.
05:46There's a girl here.
05:48Lift him up!
05:49No, lift him up!
05:50She's underneath him.
05:52Hold on.
05:52Hold on.
05:57Hang on.
05:59Come here, sweetie.
05:59Sit up.
06:00Try and sit up.
06:02Hang on.
06:03She's wedged.
06:07I looked up and I ended up seeing the guy that was screaming behind them.
06:13You climb over here.
06:15Climb over him.
06:16Climb over him.
06:16Go that way.
06:17Go that way.
06:17Go that way.
06:18Go that way.
06:20Are you stuck under him, honey?
06:21We got a girl.
06:22We got a girl.
06:24Get down.
06:26Underneath the mail.
06:27Oh, it's hot.
06:28Do it.
06:29Do it.
06:30Girl down.
06:33Go outside.
06:35Okay.
06:37Heavy fire on the delta corners.
06:41A few scores.
06:42Come on.
06:42Come on.
06:42Come on.
06:43Come on.
06:43Come on.
06:43Come on.
06:44Hey, what's up?
06:45What's up?
06:45What's up?
06:45What's up?
06:46What's up?
06:46What's up?
06:47What's up?
06:47What's up?
06:48What's up?
06:48Officer Timothy Shingleton arrives next.
06:53How many are inside still?
06:57Guys, where are we at?
07:01Where are we at?
07:02Being a father myself, whenever kids are involved with anything, in my opinion, they're their first priority.
07:09That's my main focus, as soon as I get there.
07:18There's definitely a sense of fear going into the fire, but I didn't really take a lot of time to think about consequences or anything like that.
07:25I just, I just wanted to get inside and help.
07:32Is there anyone else in here?
07:34Yes, one right here.
07:35Get her.
07:36Get her out.
07:37Get her out.
07:38Get her out.
07:39Here.
07:40Give me her.
07:41Get her out.
07:42Give me her.
07:43No, this way.
07:44This way.
07:45There's that door right here, guys.
07:46There's that back door open and all that.
07:48Here.
07:49Here.
07:50Here.
07:51Here.
07:52Here.
07:53Here.
07:54Here.
08:01Officer Shingleton rescues the girl who was pinned under the unconscious man.
08:13It was definitely amazing to reunite her with her mom.
08:18The family was crying and just overwhelmed that we were able to free her from the situation that she was in.
08:28But my mindset went back to, I'm not sure if my partners are still inside.
08:32I don't know if they've freed the other two.
08:34So I kind of just head straight back to the same door that I had originally made entry into.
08:40Can we get him?
08:41He's pinned with his foot right there.
08:43He's stuck.
08:49Hey, bro, it's falling down.
08:53We got to move.
08:56The flames are starting to come close to us.
08:58The environment is getting hotter.
09:00The smoke is getting thicker.
09:02We don't have the right equipment on to stop us from burning.
09:08I don't know how to save those two individuals and how to get out of it alive.
09:12Church, turn this way.
09:13We got to go.
09:15We got to go.
09:24We got to go.
09:26Officers from the Farmington Hills Police Department are desperately trying to rescue a family of eight from their burning home.
09:34In the chaos, it is unclear how many people are still inside.
09:39Here, here, here.
09:40I'm very stubborn.
09:43It's not always a good thing.
09:44But in that instant, it was like, I'm not going to take a loss.
09:48We need to get these individuals out no matter what.
09:51506, we're extracting them now.
09:56We're getting them out.
09:58Here.
09:58You try to get a hold of his hands, sweaty.
10:06Your palms are sweaty.
10:08You can't really fully stand up because of how thick the smoke is.
10:12You got them?
10:14You got them?
10:17What are you getting them out?
10:19Here.
10:28You got them?
10:30You got them?
10:31Almost.
10:32Almost.
10:36Come here, up here.
10:37Come to me.
10:38He's unconscious.
10:39No, he's not.
10:39He's up.
10:40Come on.
10:41Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:42Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:43Come here.
10:44Come on.
10:45Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:46Crawl.
10:47Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:48I go back into his wrist and I start feeling him move and I'm blown away because he's been
10:58unconscious for so long and seeing him sit up onto his arms and start crawling, I didn't
11:03think that that was ever going to happen.
11:05Crawl, crawl, crawl.
11:06Is that the last man?
11:08Who does it?
11:10How many more people in there?
11:12Where?
11:13How many family members total in the house?
11:15Three men.
11:16Three men?
11:17Two women.
11:17Two women?
11:19Two, two, two guys.
11:20Two children.
11:22Five or six.
11:24We have two men in the back.
11:25There should be one man in the front, two women, three children total.
11:29We have two men with us.
11:31How do you count?
11:32Guys, you guys got to get up.
11:34You guys got to get up.
11:35Walk away from the house.
11:36Anyone still in here?
11:39The newborn baby has already been rescued from the home.
11:46Hey!
11:46Jacob, is that you?
11:48Yeah.
11:49I'm pretty good here.
11:50You guys need to get out of there, bro.
11:53Officers think they have everyone out of the burning building.
11:57Get out.
11:58Let's close this door and stop the van.
12:02After pulling everyone out, you start to go into, okay, are my partners safe?
12:07Are my coworkers safe?
12:08The fire department arrives on scene to tackle the blaze.
12:13Hey!
12:14We need a head count!
12:16We need a head count!
12:19One more!
12:21One more what?
12:22One more man?
12:24Just when you think you're out of danger, something else comes up.
12:30506 family saying there's one more male, approximately 20 years old, near the back of the house.
12:37Okay, are we sure we got everyone out of the house?
12:40One, probably 20-year-old man left in the house.
12:43It was definitely panic-inducing.
12:46You know, I started thinking, what if we hadn't found all of them?
12:49That guy?
12:50Like, hey!
12:52This guy!
12:54Everybody out?
12:56Everybody out!
12:57Yes, we're good!
12:58We're good!
12:58We're good!
12:58The homeowners, there's nobody else in the house.
13:01Everybody is out of the house.
13:03Copy.
13:03412 staying.
13:04All occupants are out of the house.
13:06Everyone is out?
13:07Everyone's up.
13:09506, the remaining PD units return to the front yard.
13:14It was a huge sign of relief that we did not miss anyone.
13:18We got everyone out, and all of my coworkers, all the officers were safe outside.
13:24We started to look into getting medical aid for everyone.
13:31Hold on, hold on, hold on.
13:33Is she good?
13:34She's still breathing.
13:36I was standing with the mother, and she had fainted, and I was trying to wake her up.
13:41Get her on the side.
13:42You're good, you're good.
13:43Stop, stop.
13:43You're okay.
13:44You're good.
13:44You're good.
13:45You're good.
13:45You're good.
13:45You're good.
13:46Everyone's up.
13:47You're good.
13:48You're good.
13:49Everyone's up.
13:50You're good.
13:51Stop.
13:51Everyone's up.
13:52Look, look, look.
13:53Look, right there.
13:54Right there.
13:55She's right there.
13:55Look, right there.
13:57Everybody's up.
13:57Everybody's up.
13:57She's good.
13:58Everybody's up.
13:58She's good.
13:59She's good.
14:00Okay?
14:00I believe the mother did not realize that her daughter was out of the house.
14:05She was still in complete panic and shock.
14:08Can you try standing?
14:09Come here.
14:09Come here.
14:10Come here.
14:10Stand up.
14:11Stand up.
14:11I'll stand up.
14:13There's a baby.
14:14There's a baby.
14:16I couldn't begin to imagine how traumatic this was for the family.
14:20I couldn't imagine, you know, having a child and not being able to help them.
14:23I'm just glad that we were there and able to, you know, make a difference for them.
14:33All family members are accounted for.
14:36Does anyone know what started the fire?
14:40Were you all sleeping and it was just a fire?
14:43Do you know where it started?
14:45I saw the fire in the living room.
14:46I saw it at night.
14:47The family was asleep when the fire had started.
14:51The cause of the fire remains unknown.
14:54We have a head count.
14:55Everyone's out, right?
14:56Every single person's out.
14:58You okay?
15:01I'll definitely never forget this incident.
15:06It was really an incredible job by everybody that was involved.
15:09I remember I was coughing like nonstop and one of the firemen was like, I think you guys
15:19might need to get checked out.
15:21Because I could barely stay a sentence without nonstop coughing.
15:26So we ended up getting loaded into the ambulance and taken to Corwell Farmington Hills Hospital
15:32and inevitably getting intubated and requiring, you know, breathing treatment and medical aid
15:40for a few days.
15:41There was some scar tissue built up in my lungs.
15:46But luckily, recovery is doing good.
15:48I'm back to full duty.
15:50The family has recovered and everyone's safe.
16:10911 emergency.
16:11I'm calling to report a domestic dispute.
16:16You can hear young children screaming and crying.
16:20I went and knocked on the door and you can clearly hear people screaming and fighting in
16:24the background and children screaming.
16:26I bet those are the male and the female, aren't they?
16:28It is.
16:29Yeah, it is.
16:32Multiple officers from Oceanside PD are dispatched to the location of the 911 call.
16:38Domestic violence is a frequent call that we get.
16:45We can't get complacent.
16:47If we get there and we don't assume the worst, we might be surprised at what we're going to
16:52run into.
16:52But if we assume the worst, then at least we're somewhat prepared to take action
16:58as opposed to trying to play catch-up.
17:00A second call comes in.
17:03911 emergency.
17:05I think someone's got shot.
17:06How many shots did you hear?
17:09Like five, like five, like five, like five, like five.
17:11There's a shooting involved, children involved, and a person down.
17:15The people, my town, needs me in that moment.
17:18We have to engage.
17:28911 emergency.
17:30I think someone's got shots.
17:32How many shots did you hear?
17:34Like five, like five, like five, like five.
17:36We have what's called live 911 in the car.
17:39You can actually listen to the caller.
17:41I'm about to get off the phone with you.
17:43I hear a lady screaming.
17:45Okay.
17:45Okay.
17:48Sergeant Schickel and Officer Mulder are the first on scene.
18:11As I get to the door, one of the children comes out.
18:16She's in the back.
18:18The front door is wide open.
18:31We actually entered the bedroom where the victim was lying on the ground.
18:36Ma'am?
18:42No, Paul, she's very warm.
18:44We're good.
18:44We're going to need to pull her out.
18:48Her pupils were dilated.
18:52She wasn't breathing.
18:53Yeah, it's...
18:54It looks like brain matter on the other side.
18:57Yes.
18:58Yeah.
18:59It looks like entrance in the cheek and the outfit in the side.
19:04She had a head wound that was significant.
19:07She had a couple of other injuries that I noted.
19:10They appeared to be gunshot wounds.
19:15It's a hurt head wound.
19:19The woman is Kimberly Foster, mother of four, including a four-year-old boy.
19:24They saw their mom get shot, saw her on the floor.
19:43They're definitely going to be in crisis.
19:46We need to remove them from the scene for their own safety and well-being.
19:53That little boy that was in that room is going to remember the last time he saw his mother lying on the floor.
19:59And that's going to be with him for the rest of his life.
20:06I've got four, five casings over here.
20:11One, two, three, four, five.
20:13I see five here.
20:15Two more in the cabinet.
20:17One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
20:22And those are four, seven, eight.
20:29Where there's a shooting, we can have a couple of casings.
20:33In this case, there were eight, all directed at her.
20:38I would argue that there was some level of hatred, at least in that moment, towards her.
20:43And he was going to make her pay for it.
20:45Hey, can we get suspect name, information, date of birth?
20:48We had other officers who interviewed the victim's children, and they actually identified who the suspect was by name.
21:04Dorian Larkin.
21:07Kimberly Foster's neighbors say she and Larkin had a volatile relationship.
21:13He brought extreme violence in front of children.
21:16He needs to be brought in.
21:18We did receive information that he was driving a silver passenger car.
21:30With the technology, there's license plate reader cameras really everywhere.
21:35You can't really drive without hitting one of these cameras.
21:38It's harder to hide.
21:43At that point, we have a hit at a particular location.
21:46We came back to Temecula, California, 30 miles away.
21:55Riverside County Sheriff's deputies engage in a pursuit.
21:59They lead Larkin back within city limits, where Oceanside Police can pick up the chase.
22:04I-O, RSO has located the vehicle.
22:09You're currently in pursuit of southbound 15, approaching Rainbow Valley.
22:14Hang on!
22:15Larkin won't pull over.
22:17Officer Cisneros joins the chase.
22:20We were alerted that he's going southbound on the 15, deputies are in pursuit of him, and he's coming back to Oceanside.
22:38He's doing the same turns, he's doing the same things, and he's buying time for himself to plan his next move.
22:48I don't know how much gas he has in his car, or how many rounds he has in his gun, but something's going to happen.
22:57You know, they might be coming back here.
23:01Yeah, you know, East 76 in college, for a potential spike to point it.
23:22Officers get ahead of the chase to set up stop stakes.
23:25Hey, macho.
23:33Wait.
23:40Hey, quickights at all, he might turn to fire.
23:42We're pursuing a murder suspect who is still armed with a handgun.
24:03It's still very dangerous.
24:06The only appropriate thing to do is stop him as quickly as possible before he can hurt anyone else.
24:12The community is at risk.
24:26We need to catch this guy.
24:28The murder suspect's vehicle runs straight over the stop sticks, but the chase isn't over.
24:52He hit some spikes, and he continued pretty fast.
25:18At that point, I'm now number two in the pursuit, trying to maneuver my way around to put myself in the best position if he did crash and foot bail.
25:29Larkin pulls his damaged car into a shopping center parking lot.
25:48The suspect, Larkin, was killed in the parking lot.
25:50The suspect, Larkin, was killed in the parking lot.
25:55The suspect, Larkin, was coming out of the driver's seat and had the gun in his right hand, kind of shooting it across his body like this.
26:24The suspect, Larkin, was killed in the parking lot.
26:28That front door of his car pops open, and I'm looking right at him.
26:35I see his face, and he's squaring me up.
26:37I'm hearing the gunshots go off.
26:42That's when it kind of slows down, and those gunshots get pretty muffled, but I can see the orange flashes right in front of me.
26:54It was just kind of just survive at that point.
27:00Don't get hit.
27:01That's when I get up on my gun, and I start shooting at him.
27:13We have to engage violence, not because we want to, but because we have to.
27:19Yeah, I won't hesitate to bring it.
27:22Hang on.
27:23Getting shots fired.
27:25Oh, yes, watch your crossfire.
27:28We don't have, like, night vision or stuff like that, so I don't know if he gets hit or not.
27:35Larkin abandons his car and flees on foot.
27:39Now we're going from a closed shopping center to occupied homes.
27:43So now the immediate threat is, is he going to break into somebody's home?
27:48And then are we going to have a barricade hostage-type situation?
27:512K, it looks like he's been running toward Gold.
27:55Running towards Gold.
27:58Any deputy or officer, intro on that transfer?
28:01Are all SCSO deputies okay?
28:10Oh, yeah, are you okay?
28:13Can I hear you? Okay, I'm okay.
28:21Go.
28:22One crossfire's engine company stopped.
28:24Locked that off.
28:27Yeah, we're here, Sergeant.
28:29Suspect, put your hand to your side.
28:32Officers close in and surround Larkin, who is lying in the middle of the road.
28:37Hey, so grab a shield, grab a shield.
28:40Hey, hand to your side.
28:42Gunning his right hand.
28:43Hey, gunning his right hand.
28:46He is on the ground, laying on his back, and not moving.
28:52I'll take the shield laid up.
28:53All right.
28:55Ready?
28:56Your hands.
28:57Ready?
28:58All right, here we go.
28:59Over here.
29:01Somebody put on the radio where I was going.
29:02Where he did?
29:03Okay.
29:04As we started to walk up, you definitely could see a handgun in his right hand, right at his head.
29:19It was my belief that time he had inflicted his own gunshot to himself.
29:37Good boy.
29:38Oh, that's CSO.
29:39That is.
29:40Okay.
29:41Uh, Deputy Ferguson.
29:42Who is this?
29:44The deceased subject is identified as Dorian Larkin.
29:49Once we confirmed that he was dead, I won't say it brings me back down, but now we know that the threat is neutralized.
29:54You good?
29:55Yes.
29:56I mean, the biggest thing is he's not a threat to officers anymore.
30:01I fired.
30:02You did?
30:03Yeah.
30:04Okay.
30:05He fired too.
30:06About five, six.
30:08Okay.
30:09Six, seven.
30:10We've also done five, 15.
30:12He tried to kill a lot of people on scene.
30:15He's shooting at the police.
30:16He's shooting at the badge.
30:17I don't take it personal.
30:18At the same time, people didn't get it put to justice.
30:19Him being dead on the ground, he decided that for himself, and he ended on his terms.
30:36I think the most significant thing that stands out here is the violence in front of children, because that's pretty rare.
30:43The child that walked me into the apartment, you could clearly see the sense of urgency to help his mom, but there was nothing we could do.
30:52That family's going to be devastated. Those children are going to be devastated for the rest of their life.
31:06Three, two, one.
31:09And then they go! The Skyway 10K is underway!
31:15The annual Skyway 10K race is taking place across the iconic Skyway Bridge, between Teresea and St. Petersburg.
31:25The bridge's southbound lanes will be free-flowing and open to traffic, but the northbound lanes will be closing at 3.30 a.m. and will reopen at 11 a.m.
31:35You're looking at anywhere from 7,000 to 8,000 runners coming northbound across that bridge over the course of several hours.
31:42Sergeant Carter and Trooper Shuck from the Florida Highway Patrol are stationed at the I-275 northbound toll plaza.
31:51I am the closest to the race participants, so if anything's going to happen, the last person they're going to get to is me.
32:00Everybody was having a good time, and, you know, it was getting towards the end of the race.
32:06Steve, we just had a car come running through the barricades down here at 19 and 41.
32:15Mind is all 50. Copy about the silver car.
32:17I came over the radio and said that a vehicle had broken through the detour and was traveling northbound in the closed section of the roadway.
32:34On the south side of the bridge, a driver has smashed through the barricade and is speeding toward the runners.
32:41It's going to be a silver BMW northbound.
32:47I think she's, I don't know what she is, but she's not stopping.
32:51I was worried because this hasn't happened before.
32:55We have now people on a bridge, and they have nowhere to go if a car comes through this.
33:01She's well in excess of 100 miles an hour northbound.
33:08Tony and Alan, did you start heading that way, too?
33:12I'm heading up there right now.
33:15There were still thousands of people still on that bridge, and so I said, Tony, Alan, go stop her.
33:20I just accelerate as fast as I can to go southbound to try to intercept the car coming northbound.
33:30I want to get as far as away from the bridge as possible because I want to have enough time to do whatever I need to do to stop the car.
33:39Signal 14, I've lost visual on her.
33:42She's well in excess of 100.
33:43I can't even see her anymore.
33:45She's probably just about to the toll closet.
33:46At that point, you get a little bit of a knot in your stomach.
33:50You get, you know, the hairs on the back of your neck stick up, and you're thinking, okay, what's going on?
33:57This is not normal.
34:00Officers station themselves in front of the toll plaza and try to get the driver to stop.
34:06Silver BMW 2, or an elderly white female, mid-aged white female.
34:13She's coming. She's coming. She's coming.
34:16She's coming. She's coming. She's approaching the toll plaza.
34:26It's going through your mind. What's the intentions?
34:31A possible terrorist attack does play into it.
34:35Is she going to plow through the runners and, you know, try to hurt and kill people?
34:39We didn't know at the time, and that's why it was so critical to stop her.
34:43We're going to get to 100.
34:47When she hit the toll plaza, she was roughly about a half mile from where the runners actually started running.
34:57The suspect driver is coming up behind them.
34:59They're running in the opposite direction, so it's not like you could even see this coming.
35:03There's a wall, and then there's a wall, and then there's water.
35:07There's nowhere for them to go.
35:09Even if somebody at the tail end started screaming, the people in the middle wouldn't know anything about it.
35:16Watching her coming past that second checkpoint there with those other officers,
35:26you now realize that you're going to have to take some sort of action to get this person to stop.
35:32The end of the tunnel is coming up.
36:02Oh, my God.
36:32I can't get out.
36:45You okay?
36:46I can't get out.
36:47You okay?
36:48I can't get out.
36:49Come on.
36:50Come on.
36:51Come on.
36:52Come on.
36:53Come on.
36:54Come on.
36:55Stop.
36:56She's right here.
36:57You all right?
36:59Come on.
37:00Set her down.
37:01Get on the back.
37:0230-9.
37:03Are you 48 on traffic?
37:05After she goes through the toll plaza, she encounters Sergeant Carter, who's directly in front of me.
37:12She kind of veers around him.
37:14In my mind, I'm thinking to myself, I'm the last one.
37:18Slow her down.
37:19Slow her down.
37:20Block the road.
37:21Be an obstacle.
37:23Force her either to stop or veer off.
37:26It was just within those last seconds that I realized she wasn't going to stop.
37:31And then that's when I pretty much braced for impact.
37:42Don't initially have pain because I have all that adrenaline going on.
37:46But I wanted to get out of the vehicle because, of course, you know, your next concern is, is the car going to catch on fire?
37:57Realizing that she did stop, you kind of have that, you can just breathe a little bit, but it's not the end.
38:05She's good.
38:20I'm good?
38:22No.
38:23She's good.
38:24No.
38:25The trooper you just hit!
38:28I need to talk to you guys, if you're real.
38:31Wasted.
38:32I swear to God, you assholes.
38:36Get on your stomach right now.
38:41Right behind your back.
38:42Right behind your back.
38:43Right behind your back.
38:44Up her ass.
38:45You need to let us help you.
38:46Yes, we are.
38:47And you need to let us help you.
38:48You're welcome.
38:49You're welcome.
38:50You're welcome.
38:51Yes, we are.
38:52And you need to let us help you.
38:53You're welcome.
38:54You're welcome.
38:55You're welcome.
38:56You're welcome.
38:57You're welcome.
38:58When I arrived on scene within a few minutes of the crash occurring, Tony's vehicle was
39:06still in the roadway, devastating damage to the vehicle.
39:10Tony was already being treated by emergency medical personnel.
39:13The suspect's vehicle, again, devastating damage to that vehicle as well, had spun out
39:19along to the shoulder.
39:21Trooper Shuck sustained a concussion, two herniated discs, and a tear in her back, leaving
39:28her with lifelong injuries.
39:31We are not trained to go head on with any vehicle.
39:36And that was not my intention that day.
39:39My intention was to get her to slow down or to get her to swerve off and stop.
39:45The crash was not the intent.
39:47The crash was her choice.
39:50She struck me.
39:52The suspect, Kristen Watts, sustains a broken ankle in the crash.
39:57After stating she suffers from mental health issues, Watts pleads guilty to driving under
40:04the influence, with property damage and personal injury, and fleeing or attempting to elude law
40:10enforcement.
40:11She's sentenced to ten years in prison and four years probation.
40:16I don't even think she knew what she was doing.
40:21Her level of intoxication was over three times the legal limit.
40:27A head-on collision is probably the deadliest collision to get any vehicle to stop.
40:34Ever since I've been in law enforcement, I carried my grandmother's Bible.
40:39My grandmother, she was like a second mother to me.
40:48When my mom was at work, she took care of me.
40:52I think I had a guardian angel.
40:54I hope it was her.
40:56I think it was her.
40:59Following Officer Shuck's intervention, the Skyway 10K event finished without incident.
41:06Tony Shuck is a hero.
41:09The innocent people that were there didn't even know it occurred.
41:13So, the word hero for her, absolutely, yes.
41:18There's a lot of what-ifs, and you think, damn, I'm lucky.
41:23I'm lucky that I walked away from it.
