00:00we just received a call from dispatch of uh shocks fired why would you just dump a deer
00:11that you shot and gutted this guy left his deer tag attached to the antlers it's like leaving
00:16your driver's license at a crime scene we are here to capture some california british sheep
00:21go get him it's really exciting to move animals and reestablish populations
00:27i completely sympathize with your hunting partner passing we still have a job to do
00:32who's gone whose is it yours or yours
00:35nevada a land of extremes from the strip to the summits it's wild country home to more than 900
00:49species and a way of life worth protecting preserved for the people and the wildlife
00:56that call it home one team stands guard this is nevada wild
01:04right here
01:12i want to welcome everybody here today you know it's been a lot of years since this started
01:23and each and every one of you here you know you're all you're all part of this i was telling
01:27my grandson today i said you're going to be able to tell your grandkids what you helped
01:31out with up here to bring all this back okay with that i better go ahead and now say a prayer
01:37here for these sheep
01:40all right my name is mike cox statewide big horn sheep staff biologist tomorrow we're going to capture
01:55some california big horn sheep off the sheep creek range we're looking at 20 to 25 animals majority of
02:02we'll be using lambs managing our big horn sheep statewide for over 20 years it's been my responsibility
02:10to put sheep back on the mountain and work with everyone to do that this is a big deal and i want
02:17you to tell us a little bit about why it's a big deal okay so this is the first reintroduction of big
02:23war sheep to travel lands in nevada so this is a very significant day for the pyramid lake pait tribe
02:29the lake range haven't seen sheep since the early 1900s i'm emily haggler i work for the pyramid
02:34lake pait tribe in the natural resource department and i'm an environmental specialist the east side of
02:39the lake is a very sacred site to the tribe and a lot of people don't ever get the opportunity to go to the
02:44east side of the lake it's a very big deal to have this collaborative effort happening with nevada
02:49department of wildlife to bring sheep back to the reservation i hope everybody here really just
02:54understands the significance of that thank you it's it's really neat we've got a lot of experience
03:00putting sheep back to places that they haven't been at for over 100 years but this one's special
03:06because this is the first ever translocation to a tribal land here in the state of nevada
03:12well get some good sleep and uh we'll see you bright and early here 4 45 a.m
03:29we are here so we're going to set up the base camp and we'll see the helicopter come in in about a
03:46half hour and uh we better get our butts in gear and get it ready
03:55when lewis and clark explored the west for the first time there was likely a million
04:00big horn sheep scattered from northern montana all the way to texas by the 1920s we had lost 90 to 95
04:09percent of the big horn sheep so i'm putting together a swabbing tote to sample the bacteria
04:17and the tonsils of each animal it's one of the greatest things i've done in my career
04:23is to be a part of restoring herds and throughout the state
04:27so uh helicopter is going to be landing probably about 50 yards to the west of the tripod which is
04:37the way scale uh they'll be brought and weighed and then each animal will be on a separate table
04:45you can see the oxygen tanks here start giving them oxygen when they come in all the collars the
04:52satellite collars are going to be put on on that table and so this is our processing tables
05:13hey everybody cameras up the folks handling sheep
05:17the big things are plenty of support underneath the animals don't carry weight by the head but
05:25somebody needs to be on the head at all times controlling that that head you may damage the
05:30horns yeah hang on to those horns make sure you have control of it but don't carry weight with that
05:36head uh at least two people on the body nobody needs to be trying to carry a whole sheep let's have
05:41a great time a beautiful day we got fresh snow for the crew to find the sheep
05:48and i'm feeling good about this day
06:02there's a lot of things that are critical to safely capture those animals and bring them back we
06:08definitely want the capture crew to be safe when they're out there flying in the helicopter
06:13and then the loading of the sheep you don't lose any animals they don't run off
06:27my name is quinn hesterly i'm a nevada game warden with the department of wildlife the day we're working
06:33on a case about a deer that was field dressed and left at the dump the individual left their tag on top
06:42of it i've been in contact with the individual and he's going to meet us at the office i'll be working
06:50with jason jackson i'll be the primary jason will be there's more or less the cover officer he may
06:56interject whenever he hears something that that i may not be picking up on but for the most part he's
07:02just there for my safety and his why would you just dump a deer that you shot and gutted
07:10in a city dump when he could have dumped it in the like out in the woods
07:17and the coyotes would have eaten it up in like one or two days and there would have been no
07:22nothing left so basically there would have been no case had he not dumped a deer where he dumped it
07:27that's the deer this guy left his deer tag attached to the antlers it's like leaving your driver's
07:34license at a crime scene right he had no intention of attempting to hide what he did he has had tags in
07:41the past he has harvested other animals why just leave this one behind with all your information
07:48right there we don't know what their feelings are towards game wardens potentially they may
07:55know that they did this violation so they may not be very happy to see us but as it sits right now what
08:01i'm looking at is the waste of game it's a misdemeanor violation but it does come with
08:06demerit points and what that means is is similar to uh driving violations you have too many driving
08:12violations your driving privileges are revoked essentially the same thing happens with too many
08:18game violations if you accrue a 12 demerits you lose your hunting privileges for three years
08:35so
08:49The capture crews, they are to slow those animals down to as slow as speed as possible,
09:09which means they're going to allow that group of animals to be going uphill.
09:13That's when they would prefer to take their shot.
09:15The gunner knows that the pilot is, hey, here's your nanosecond to shoot.
09:20So they're just in sync.
09:35First thing that will calm those animals down is the blindfold.
09:39When they can't see what's going on, their heart rate automatically goes down.
09:45The crew that we have today, they have captured literally thousands of animals.
10:03They are so talented.
10:07Four coming in, all crews, hands on deck.
10:15Four coming in, all crews, hands on deck.
10:28We have four coming in now.
10:36They'll weigh them, then they'll bring them to the table where the veterinarians will check
10:41them out.
10:42And then from there, they'll move them into the trailers after they've taken their blood
10:45samples and make each other healthy and happy.
10:47Go get them.
10:54Go get them.
10:54Go get them.
11:14Go.
11:15Go away.
11:16Go away.
11:21Go away.
11:22Go away.
11:23Go away.
11:31Okay.
11:32Let's go ahead and move her a little bit down to the end.
11:36That'll make it better.
11:38There you go.
11:39Perfect.
11:40Ready?
11:41Okay.
11:41One of the important things also is we're keeping our voices down.
11:47You don't want to arouse the animals.
11:49Keep them cold.
11:50Capture myopathy can occur when an animal is overstressed.
11:55It's a combination of high temperature, high respiration rate, and a high heart rate.
12:01A sedative will really help the animal.
12:04They're not really hearing things.
12:06They're not really feeling things.
12:07And our wildlife vet is going to be monitoring the conditions that would lead to capture myopathy.
12:16He's down to him.
12:17My name is Nate LaHue.
12:21This week has been my first week of captures with the department, and I'm providing the veterinary support for that.
12:27Today we're surveying for a number of diseases.
12:30One of the biggest concerns is called mycoplasma ovom pneumoniae, and it causes pneumonia.
12:35What we're trying to do is figure out who in the herd is still shedding this bacteria with bighorn sheep.
12:43It's a fairly small percentage of the herd that's causing that huge mortality in the lambs.
12:49It's really exciting to move animals and reestablish populations and also to figure out what's going on disease-wise
12:56and help improve the health of these populations.
12:58When you have a capture like this and you're in charge of the health and safety of these animals,
13:14it's certainly a stressful situation.
13:17There's a lot of time and effort that goes into relocating and capturing animals,
13:23and we want to make sure that we get them back out of the landscape healthy.
13:27It's really great to see so many getting captured today.
13:46We've got a ram now, we've got some babies, we've got some good ewes, and they're all in really good health.
13:51You know, we've put sheep in a lot of places, but to be able to help a First Nation build from the ground up
14:06a program to manage sheep that their ancestors hunted is huge.
14:14The lake range is where they're heading.
14:16It's about a four-and-a-half-hour drive.
14:18Quentin Hesterly, Nevada Game Warden, how are you?
14:35I'm going to meet you.
14:36I won't step over by the truck.
14:40You have the right to remain silent.
14:41Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.
14:43You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being questioned.
14:49Now, you aren't under arrest or anything.
14:51Are you still willing to talk with us?
14:53Yes.
14:53Okay.
14:54So, from our records, you had a tag, right?
14:57Yes.
14:58In Area 6?
14:58Yeah.
14:59How many were in the party?
15:00Two.
15:01Two? Who else was in it?
15:02F***.
15:05Were you guys successful then?
15:07I was.
15:07After hearing this guy's voice, this is a guy that was involved with a search and rescue in Elko County.
15:17His friend had passed away on this hunt.
15:19I was a part of the search and rescue.
15:21We had to haul his friend's body off the mountain.
15:25Last evening, the third day, I went up the canyon.
15:28Here was a big boy with a doe.
15:31Saw to him.
15:31He went over the ridge.
15:32I didn't go.
15:33So, I huffed it up there, and then I go over a ridge, and there they are.
15:38So, then I shot him.
15:39I was about six inches off, but I still got him.
15:42When I looked away, I looked up, and he was gone.
15:45Nothing happened.
15:45Yeah.
15:46You ended up finding it later?
15:48How long later?
15:50Next morning, around 10 a.m.
15:52Around 10?
15:52Yeah.
15:53Okay.
15:54Okay.
15:54Hang on one second.
15:55I've got to talk to him.
15:56This is the guy.
16:00He's with the guy that died that I pulled off the mountain.
16:04I just want you to know that.
16:06Okay.
16:07Okay.
16:07Okay.
16:12So, my partner here made a connection that, obviously, a tragedy happened up on the hill.
16:19Your partner ended up passing away up on the hill.
16:22Okay.
16:22I didn't connect the dots until I saw your face, I heard your voice, and you mentioned
16:28his name.
16:28I'm like, I spoke with you before.
16:31You found the deer after, and you kind of lost him then?
16:34I found the deer.
16:36I mean, I told the radio.
16:38I got him now.
16:40Where are you?
16:41He goes, I'm not making any progress.
16:44My legs are weak, and I'm really dehydrated.
16:48So, I went and got the drinks, I went up to where he agreed to meet at him, and I went
16:54around the ridge, you know, on their side, looking.
16:59I called the sheriff's department.
17:01It's on the search market, so I started to break down, and then I went to the dump, and
17:08I dumped off the deer, and then I washed off the blood, and the back of my truck.
17:15I felt, you know, like I was pleased to travel.
17:19Well, I want to extend my sympathies for losing a hunting partner.
17:23I mean, it's hard.
17:24I understand that.
17:25But the reason for the contact today is the deer at the dump.
17:30Did you give any thought of possibly trying to get that to a processor to possibly donate
17:34it because you wanted to get rid of it?
17:36I thought, what are my chances of dropping it off at, like, St. Vincent's or any place?
17:42What about locally in Elko?
17:44Well, what charity would accept the deer in Elko?
17:48So, there are a couple.
17:49It comes down to the wanton waste of the deer, okay?
17:52That's the whole point of me coming to Reno today.
17:54I'm originally out of Elko, same thing with Jason.
17:57That's a pretty big issue.
17:59I understand life events.
18:01We have an officer that was involved.
18:02But we still have to do our job.
18:04Yeah.
18:04Understandably, right?
18:05And that's, like Clint said, that's why we're here, you know?
18:08Well, I realize that, but I am, you know, I was under stress.
18:13I get it.
18:14When I called the wife, they said, according to Native American tradition, this is a death
18:21deer.
18:21Do not eat it.
18:23Do not eat that deer.
18:25When I called the wife, they said, according to Native American tradition, this is a death
18:42deer.
18:42Do not eat that deer.
18:44And I'm on the phone, okay, okay, I won't eat the deer.
18:51His friend was a Native American, and his wife is saying, this deer is now cursed, and
18:57you should not eat it.
18:58You should not even have it in your house.
18:59And come to find out this is the reason why that his deer wound up in Elko County Landfill.
19:06So that swayed your decision on what you ultimately did with the deer the next day?
19:10I never got to the point where I made some phone calls to see, hey, soup kitchen, do you
19:18want to accept the deer as a donation?
19:21And there was that dump, and I wanted to get back home.
19:26And so I went to the dump right there on the sign.
19:29It said, animals, just report that you have one, and you're good to go, pretty much.
19:34And so, $15, okay, $15.
19:38And so I dumped it off.
19:40But I was there because I was told to not eat that deer.
19:47So, Paul, I would like to have you write me a statement of basically just kind of the story
19:54of a deer, of how you harvested it, your buddy passing, and then how you came to your decision
20:01to take it to the dump.
20:05While you do that, I'm going to talk with Jason, and we're going to come up with what
20:09we would like to do.
20:11We'll leave it to you for a little bit.
20:13We'll be nearby.
20:18So, there's a curveball.
20:19Um, I don't know what to tell you.
20:25You don't have to write a ticket right now.
20:28Yeah.
20:28You don't have to write a ticket ever.
20:29But is it fair to the other sports?
20:32That's kind of where I'm going with it.
20:35My name is Chris Walther, game warden.
20:48Being a game warden in Clark County, which is the county Las Vegas is in, as game wardens,
20:53we are state police officers and we deal with every other crime not related to hunting, fishing,
20:58and boating.
20:59Lake Mead is so close to the city of Las Vegas.
21:02Not only do we deal with the local boating traffic, but also we deal with a lot of tourism
21:06traffic out here where they just don't have an idea of what recreational boating laws are.
21:13How are we doing, folks?
21:14Not good.
21:15Low fish.
21:16State game warden.
21:16I'll come around and check a fishing license.
21:18We're there's a few less poles on that side.
21:19So no luck today, huh?
21:26No.
21:27How can that be?
21:28There's fish everywhere.
21:31I'm trying to catch a catfish right now.
21:33Is that good?
21:33I got some.
21:34Yep.
21:35Let's see.
21:35Yep, here we go.
21:37Is she fishing?
21:38No.
21:38Okay, how come we had five lines in the water?
21:42One more than I hate, right?
21:43Well, we've got one, two, three, and we had two on this side.
21:46So how many poles are you supposed to fish with?
21:48Okay.
21:48So I got three in the room.
21:50Okay.
21:51I need to see your fishing license and his driver's license.
21:54Do you have it on your phone?
21:55Well, I have to download it.
21:57Okay, let me take a look at that real quick.
21:59Do you have your ID on you?
22:00Let me take a look at it, please.
22:03So it's fine to have it on your phone, but once you get it downloaded, take a screenshot
22:07of it, so that way you can just bring it up fairly quickly.
22:10Okay.
22:10Paint that for me.
22:12Reno 3411 Hatchery.
22:15Vessel contact, two 2729s.
22:18Nevada D.O.
22:19I got the license.
22:21Oh, you found it?
22:22Yeah.
22:23All right, be right over.
22:27He admitted he was fishing with three poles, so pretty compliant, no issues.
22:32But obviously, he received a citation for that.
22:35Mr. is yours?
22:40And Mr. .
22:41So, you know, you can only fish with two poles, correct?
22:43Yeah, yeah, I'm not good at that.
22:48All right.
22:49And do me a favor.
22:50Don't throw your cigarette butt in the water, because that's littering.
22:52I know, I'll pick it up right now.
22:54I'll pick it up.
22:54Okay.
22:54I'll pick it up right now.
22:55I'll pick it up right now.
22:55Okay.
22:55Yeah.
22:56Let me explain this to you, okay?
22:58One violation using more than two poles.
23:00Total bail amount is 195.
23:02Just make sure you take care of it on it before that date, otherwise it'll go to warrant in the
23:05state of Nevada.
23:05Okay.
23:05Okay?
23:06Sign right there on the X for me.
23:10Okay.
23:11Appreciate it.
23:12Two poles.
23:13All right, guys.
23:14Enjoy the day.
23:15424-34-11.
23:32I just came around Black Island.
23:34I've got three vehicles on the shoreline.
23:37No sign of anything yet at this point.
23:42I haven't gone over there yet.
23:43I will shoot over to Crawdad and see what's over there.
23:48We just received a call from dispatch of shocks fired, potentially, possibly rifle shots
23:54in the location of Boxcar Crawdad Cove.
23:58So we're going to scope out a couple areas from the water, maybe direct the land units in
24:03if we possibly have some sort of situation.
24:06As a law enforcement officer in this day and age, you're thinking active shooter, you're
24:14thinking multiple assailants, you're thinking how many injured.
24:17My thought process is getting on scene, interviewing any witnesses, finding out if they saw anything
24:23suspicious.
24:24Is there any individuals at that SUV?
24:31I'm going to glass it real quick.
24:373411, I'll be in contact with one individual.
24:40How are you doing, sir?
24:42What's going on?
24:45How many people in the vehicle?
24:47Okay.
24:47Any weapons or drugs in the vehicle?
24:49Okay.
24:50You just out here camping?
24:51Okay.
24:52Do you have your ID on him?
24:53Yes, sir, I do.
24:54You got a carpet?
24:56Oh, yeah.
24:56We got a couple calls in the area.
24:58We're just trying to exhaust all resources on him.
25:01How many dogs you got?
25:03Holy cow.
25:04Three guys.
25:05All in that vehicle?
25:06Sure.
25:07Jeepers.
25:09All right.
25:09Just hang tight for me real quick.
25:12Reno 3411.
25:13Oh, f***.
25:15Oregon ID card.
25:19You guys happen here?
25:20Any gunshots?
25:21Uh, I heard.
25:23Something earlier kind of similar to a guy.
25:25Explore you.
25:27That way, approximately 15 minutes ago.
25:31I didn't know a gunshot.
25:32Okay.
25:33Okay.
25:33Okay.
25:34Okay.
25:34Okay.
25:35Okay.
25:37Let's be careful, all right?
25:44Yes, sir.
25:44Take care of yourself.
25:45All right.
25:4610-4.
25:55There's two or three more parties to the south.
25:57I'll check.
25:58There would be no legal reason as to why someone would be discharging a firearm at Lake Mead.
26:06It's a no-shooting area with all the beaches, all the traffic, the congestion.
26:11Obviously, it's very unsafe to discharge a firearm.
26:14How are we doing, folks?
26:16You just camping out for the night?
26:17Yeah, we're good.
26:18Yeah.
26:18Okay.
26:19You guys happen to hear any gunshots or anything?
26:20Yeah.
26:21They shoot about 10 rails off, and then it will stop for about two hours and then go
26:26off again.
26:27But they were doing it throughout the night.
26:28Does it sound like a high-powered rifle or sound like a pistol or...?
26:32No, like hanging out.
26:33Hanging out?
26:33Yeah.
26:34All right.
26:35Appreciate your time, guys.
26:39Contacting another party.
26:40Confirmed hearing shots throughout the night and about 30 minutes ago.
26:44There was one dark-colored SUV that was parked over here in a boxcar that is now gone.
26:49A-firm, and it was parked adjacent to where I'm at right now.
27:02There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that left.
27:12About to your 11 o'clock, up underneath this bluff.
27:19How are you doing, ma'am?
27:34There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that left.
27:40How are you doing, ma'am?
27:44Habla ingles?
27:46Donde esta su esposa?
27:50He left?
27:51Kind of a language barrier here, so it's difficult to decide for what exactly is going down.
28:09My biggest, right here.
28:11Donde se dispara la pistola?
28:13Right here?
28:14A-chi?
28:14No.
28:15Donde se dispara la pistola?
28:15Right here?
28:16No, aqui y a-chi.
28:17Well, he's got to be coming back.
28:39I mean, who knows?
28:40Maybe they want to get more ammunition.
28:47So, you don't have to write a ticket right now, but is it fair to the other sportsmen?
28:55That's kind of where I'm going with it.
28:57Christy's writing there.
28:58If you would like to talk with her, I would suggest that.
29:01I think I will talk to Christy.
29:04Hey, Christy, this is Jason.
29:05Hey, Jason.
29:06Can we borrow you for, like, maybe, like, ten minutes out here in the parking lot?
29:10We've got something to run by you.
29:12Okay, have a nice day.
29:13Thank you, ma'am.
29:17Christy Knight, she is the Western Region Lieutenant, and she's the closest supervisor that I have
29:21to be able to run the intricacies of this particular situation past her.
29:27He ended up killing a buck, cleaned it out.
29:30He ended up taking it to Elko Sanitation, to the dump, and leaving it there with his tag.
29:36So, one waste case.
29:37The moral dilemma that I'm struggling with is, during all of that, his partner died, and
29:44he was dealing with the cremation process.
29:47I'll let you decide.
29:48As far as sighting this guy, it's just a little bit more of a dilemma of, at what point do
29:54we allow some leniency?
29:56Is there a reason he didn't contact us?
29:59Not that I'm aware of, being that there was a game warden involved in the situation.
30:03And there were a lot of distress at that time.
30:04Yeah.
30:05How do you feel about the want and waste of, not the big game, but the, just game man?
30:12Um, I'm fine with that.
30:15I think there's probably what's going on here, and everything that might have come up.
30:19And honestly, we came to meet with you if you wanted to make me try.
30:23Yeah.
30:24So, I would village to the place that I'm doing that.
30:26I think that fits.
30:29Whenever you get to a stopping point, Paul, I'd like to speak with you a minute.
30:36Okay.
30:36So, I completely sympathize with you, with your hunting partner passing, and everything
30:42you had going on that day.
30:44I just spoke with the lieutenant to give me some better frame of mind.
30:48Um, but like Jason said, we still have a job to do.
30:52And it comes down to the fact that there was a deer that was wasted.
30:55I understand that being a death deer in some realms, unfortunately, the law doesn't see
31:01it that way.
31:02And I still have to do my job.
31:03There was a couple options that we had.
31:06You'll be receiving the citation today.
31:07It's a simple misdemeanor citation.
31:09Okay?
31:10But rather than going with the big game want and waste, which it comes with a 12 demerit
31:17violation, which then you would lose your hunting privileges for three years.
31:21What I'm going to cite you for is the waste of game, not big game, which brings it down
31:26in demerits and allows you to still be able to hunt.
31:30We addressed the issue of losing the deer.
31:32But also, I am completely sympathetic on the situation you were in.
31:36You were under a lot of stress.
31:39But essentially, you were working with a game warden at one point.
31:42You could have easily asked Jason, hey, I don't want this deer.
31:46What can I do with it legally?
31:48So, if you don't mind, do you have your driver's license on you?
31:52I'm going to go ahead and knock that out while you finish your statement.
31:55Any questions from me so far?
31:57Okay.
31:58Thank you, Paul.
32:02In this particular situation, it's not as black and white as you're going five miles
32:06over the speed limit, here's your ticket.
32:08The reason why I can't just let this one go is he had been in contact with Jason.
32:14That would have gladly helped him through the process of how to get rid of that deer appropriately.
32:21I definitely have to hold myself to the standard that the state would expect from me.
32:26I'm going to get to see you again next year.
32:28Hopefully, if you draw some tags again.
32:31Yeah.
32:32See, my daughter, he's 11, so she'd like to take a hunter's safety course.
32:36Really?
32:37Absolutely.
32:39So, your information's up top.
32:41What I'm signing you for is the needless ways to gain.
32:44It does come with nine demerits, like we talked about.
32:47So, you're kind of high with the nine demerits.
32:49You can take a hunter's safety class if you wanted to, and they would knock off three.
32:55So, suggestion, Paul, you said your daughter's 11.
32:57She can take the hunter's safety course at any time.
32:59You can take it along with her.
33:01Like Quinn said, you can get some of your demerit points reduced.
33:04And then it would help your daughter.
33:05Right.
33:06So, what I need from you is just a signature at the bottom.
33:09It's not an admission of guilt.
33:10It's just a promise to take care of the ticket.
33:13We don't want to deter anyone from hunting unless they're doing it completely wrong.
33:18I don't think that's your case.
33:19It was a terrible situation.
33:21I mean, I could have made most of the opportunity to call Jason.
33:27He gave me his business card.
33:29That morning, I had it in front of me, and I didn't call him.
33:32Yeah.
33:33And unfortunately, that's going to cost you a bit.
33:35But I know from this point on, you aren't going to hesitate to call him anymore, right?
33:40You get presented that again, you know exactly what you need to do.
33:44So, in a similar situation where you're presented with, do I need to call or not, go ahead and
33:50make that phone call.
33:51It could save you a lot of headache down the road.
33:53Yeah.
33:54You've been great today.
33:55I appreciate you coming in and meeting with us.
33:57Are there any other questions for Jason or him?
33:59No questions.
33:59No questions.
34:00Perfect.
34:01All right.
34:01I appreciate it, sir.
34:02Thank you for meeting with us.
34:03Paul, it's a pleasure to see you again.
34:05Thanks, Jason.
34:06How do you feel about that?
34:10Not the greatest, but like you were saying, the best outcome for doing what we need to
34:16do, but also being sympathetic to the situation with him.
34:20It's always that balance, right?
34:22It would have been hard for me to write the same thing that you just wrote, because I
34:25was more intimate.
34:25You were more in it.
34:27Yeah, than you were.
34:29So, there's a back story to everything.
34:31There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that
34:45left.
34:48How you doing, ma'am?
34:50Habla anglaise?
34:52Come on.
34:57Yeah, man.
34:57You have a target.
35:26You have a target?
35:28Any casings?
35:29Here we go.
35:30Okay.
35:34With the number of people that come out here and recreate, camp, boat, fish, you never
35:38know where that round is going to go, what it's going to ricochet off of.
35:43So, National Park Service has designated areas that are no shooting, and obviously anywhere
35:48in the water where there's people recreating, it's no shooting.
35:52Hit it once.
35:54That's all it did.
35:54Yeah.
35:55That's all it did.
35:56That's all it did.
35:56That's all it did.
35:57That's all it did.
35:58That's all it did.
35:59That's all it did.
36:00That's all it did.
36:01That's all it did.
36:02That's all it did.
36:03That suspect vehicle that we were looking for has returned back to that location.
36:08So, we'll just hang, make sure that everything's going to be code four with those guys.
36:14Who's done?
36:15Whose is it?
36:16Yours or yours?
36:17Yours?
36:18Yours?
36:19That green card.
36:20Okay.
36:21That green card.
36:22Okay.
36:23Okay.
36:24That green card.
36:25That green card.
36:26Okay.
36:27That green card.
36:28That green card.
36:29That green card.
36:30Okay.
36:31That fire is four, six to twenty-eight.
36:32Yeah.
36:33Yeah, good to go.
36:34That's all it goes.
36:35That's all it goes.
36:36That's all it goes.
36:37That's all it goes.
36:38Yeah, good to go.
36:39This fire is 4-6-28.
36:42Yeah?
36:42Yeah, good to go.
36:44Do you guys have his charge fire on and his charge and part of shooting?
36:4999 for him?
36:50Okay.
36:51Okay.
36:56Both individuals had resident cards, so they were legally allowed to be here.
37:01The gun was clear.
37:02The older individual does have a warrant out of North Las Vegas for a traffic violation.
37:07It sounds like North Las Vegas is going to confirm the warrant, so they'll transport the one individual.
37:12He'll go to jail all night.
37:14Did you guys do any fishing with the caña?
37:21Do you have a fishing license?
37:23No.
37:25Whose pole is in the back?
37:26Who's caña?
37:29Doesn't work?
37:31All right.
37:32Hold on a minute.
37:33Pas luego.
37:37I mean, those guys were shooting off that cliff into the water, and, I mean, 9-millimeter round can travel pretty far, so who knows if there's a guy fishing over on the shore, could get killed.
37:48So, obviously, it's a safety issue, public safety issue.
37:51Park Service is going to cite them for discharge of a firearm in National Park, you know, shooting area, and then, obviously, target shooting.
37:58It's a little bit easier to see things from the water out here than it is on land, especially with all the roads and canyons they've got to go through.
38:07It's just a good example of collaboration with two different agencies working together.
38:13Ring on 34, London, code 4.
38:14I'll be clear.
38:1510-8 on the water.
38:19Right now, we're headed out to the Lake Range, just east of Pyramid Lake.
38:41I'm leading the convoy out there to release the sheep.
38:47Today, we got 22.
38:48They're happy.
38:49They're healthy.
38:50We got several ewes that were pregnant, six of them, which got vaginal implant transmitters, and we'll be able to see exactly where those six females are having babies this spring and see what habitat is best for raising their lambs.
39:07So, we're coming up on the pyramid now.
39:11Speaking as a biologist that works for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, I think that this is a very exciting moment that every member of the Paiute Tribe should be proud of, and really a moment that every Nevadans should be proud of, where we can come together as a state agency and as a tribal entity to really celebrate the reintroduction of the species on tribal lands.
39:36This is really the history of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe happening right now.
39:41You know, I want to welcome everybody here today.
39:45You know, it's been a lot of years since this started, and each and every one of you here, you know, you're all part of this.
39:51When it's just like I was telling my grandson today, I said, you're going to be able to tell your grandkids what you helped out with up here, that you bring all this back.
39:58And with that, I'm going to go ahead and say a prayer here for these sheep.
40:06Grandfather, I ask good things for these sheep today.
40:08You know, I ask that they survive, you know, thrive in this mountain range again like they used to years and years ago.
40:27I ask that you take care of them in a good way.
40:30Help them back on their way home.
40:31You know, I ask that blessing for these sheep.
40:38We are very fortunate to have our sheep, our fish, our land, and our water.
40:52I'm very blessed.
40:53I feel very blessed.
40:55Getting, like, an animal, like, a whole animal back, it's like adding more voice to our culture and to who we are as people.
41:06I want to speak just about it because I'm very proud to be Native American, and I think it's just a great thing that we have another ancient animal with us.
41:25We'll be back in Korea.
