00:00People throw away rusted nuts, bolts, washers and broken vehicle parts as junk.
00:12But for Sanjeev Biswal, they are raw material for art.
00:16Based in Katak, the 50-year-old metal scrap sculptor has transformed industrial waste into striking sculptures,
00:23earning recognition not just in the Millennium City but across Odisha.
00:28A graduate in Political Science from Ravensha College in 1993, Sanjeev followed his passion for art
00:35and enrolled at BK College of Art and Craft in Bhubaneshwar.
00:39Years of learning and discipline eventually led him to an unexpected place, a garage.
00:44While repairing his car, Sanjeev noticed heaps of discarded iron parts.
00:49In that moment, he saw immense possibility, an opportunity to give West a new purpose.
00:56Most people see junk in scrap. I see shapes, ideas and stories waiting to be created.
01:03To shape his imagination, Sanjeev learned welding and began experimenting with scrap metal.
01:09His first creation, a Ganesh idol, received overwhelming response and gave him the confidence to move forward.
01:16Metal has since remained his favorite canvas.
01:19His most talk about work in this 20-inch idol of Lord Jagannath crafted entirely from discarded iron materials.
01:27Weighing nearly 10 kilograms, the sculpture took over 20 days to complete.
01:34Jagannath is our identity. I had to work on every detail carefully. I couldn't effort to go wrong.
01:39The pedestal of the Lord is made from a motorcycle plug. The hands are shaped from cutter blades.
01:45And the necklace has been crafted using a car chain. Remarkably, no paint or color has been used.
01:52I don't paint my sculptures. Rust is natural. As it grows, the beauty grows with it.
01:58Priced at 10,000 rupees, the Jagannath idol has already attracted strong interest from buyers.
02:06Chrome plating is costly and needs to be done in Kolkata. Unless someone agrees to bear the extra cost, I prefer to keep the sculpture natural.
02:16Beyond creating art, Sanjeev is shaping the next generation.
02:20He provides free art education to over 100 students, encouraging them to explore creativity and find value in what the world often discards.
02:30People throw away strap. But look at this Jagannath idol. That is the power of creativity.
02:36We are proud of Sanjeev and happy that he teaches children for free.
02:40In every rusted bolt and broken chain, Sanjeev Biswal finds beauty, belief and purpose.
02:47Proving that nothing is useless when creativity gives it life.
