00:00Would you believe me if I said you could get paid to watch Netflix movies?
00:04Well don't, because it's a scam.
00:06And yet, when you type in ways for teens to earn money on TikTok,
00:10that's the first thing that comes up.
00:13Here are two reality checks that other creators will not tell you.
00:17First, if someone's telling you that you can make five figures a month doing 15 minutes of work a day,
00:22they are lying.
00:23Even if it's true, by the time those secrets reach you,
00:26it's already too late because everyone's doing it.
00:29So your chances of success are slim to none.
00:32Two, if you're on social media and you hear a creator boast about the fact that they earn
00:36X amount of money a month, but to know how they did it, you have to buy their course,
00:41just know that they've earned most of their money by selling courses,
00:45not doing any of the jobs that the courses advertise.
00:48There are real ways to earn passive income as a student.
00:51And so in this video, I'll give you five non-scammy side hustles to actually earn income.
00:57I'll even give you free guides, steps, and testimonials from people who have actually
01:02succeeded in doing those side hustles.
01:04So watch till the end so you don't miss out on any free resources.
01:08Let's go!
01:09First, let's start with freelancing.
01:11I'll break down what freelancing is, give you real ideas to try,
01:14how to get clients, and tell you what actually makes someone stand out.
01:18Coming from someone who actually hires freelancers all the time from my YouTube channel.
01:23Freelancing is about selling a skill that you're good at on your own terms.
01:27You pick your hours, your clients, your projects, and yes, you can do all of this in your pajamas.
01:32The best part is that you're getting paid for something you already know how to do.
01:37The important part is that since you set your own hours, it will not disrupt your studies.
01:42I have proof.
01:43My Malaysian friend Ryan does copywriting and he charges about 1,200 USD per project.
01:49And he's a full-time student.
01:51Writing, designing, organizing, cleaning, whatever your skill is,
01:55someone out there needs it and will pay you for it.
01:58Now let's talk about ideas that you can try.
02:01Example 1, are you addicted to social media?
02:03If you said no, you're lying.
02:05When we think about jobs in social media,
02:07we automatically think about video editing and being a manager for content creators.
02:12But YouTubers alone need scriptwriters, personal assistants to handle PR and emails,
02:18and thumbnail designers.
02:20Did you know many commentary channels actually hire researchers to help them research really niche topics?
02:26Vloggers need cameramen and editors.
02:29I know many TikTokers that post daily that would love for someone to help them come up with a content plan for each week.
02:35Maybe you can give them a list of videos to make with the appropriate trending sound that they can use.
02:39I mean, if you're already on TikTok 24x7, you're basically doing this job but just unpaid.
02:45Feel free to screenshot but if you're bilingual, you can try these jobs.
02:49And if you're good at writing, you can try these jobs.
02:52If you're stuck, type this prompt into ChatGBT and see what ideas it gives you.
02:57I don't think people realize how much money you can actually make with freelancing.
03:01Let's do the math using this Etsy shop as an example.
03:04Everything this shop sells on Etsy, you can easily design and sell using Printify.
03:08They've made 34,000 sales.
03:11If the average price of their product is $20, that's $920,000.
03:17But for a student like you, something like this page might be more realistic.
03:21But still, only one year on Etsy, almost 4,000 sales.
03:25That's 57,000 USD.
03:28I'll teach you how to do all of this in the next part of the video.
03:31But this is absolutely possible even if your design artistic skills don't surpass stickman level.
03:37Now, bestie, you're probably thinking,
03:40Okay, but where do I actually get hired as a freelancer?
03:43Here are the main popular platforms that you can start with.
03:47Feel free to screenshot.
03:48But how do you actually get clients?
03:51You can of course get clients organically by them just browsing through the platforms and finding you there.
03:56But my friend Ryan texted me this advice and he said,
03:59If I could do things differently, I'd relentlessly respond to job postings on marketplaces like LinkedIn and Upwork,
04:05as well as sending cold pitches to any brand I come across online.
04:0995% of the time, you're left on red, but the 5% is what we're aiming for.
04:14So be proactive and reach out to potential clients and companies via DMs or emails.
04:19Listen up, I get messages and emails every single day from people wanting to work with me on my YouTube channel.
04:25And most of them do it wrong.
04:27So if you're going to reach out to someone, please do these things.
04:31Please, at least follow me.
04:34In fact, I made a whole free document containing tips to create an outstanding LinkedIn resume and portfolio.
04:41The payment is for you to subscribe, like this video, then go to my Instagram and message me the words side hustle.
04:46Basically, in one DM or email, I should immediately know these things about you.
04:52Now, here are the disadvantages of freelancing.
04:54Because the barrier to entry is low, that makes freelancing competitive.
04:58But then again, there are no free meals in this world.
05:01The harder you work, the more that you will earn.
05:03Ryan said,
05:04When I started, I was 12.
05:06I had no money for courses or membership programs.
05:08So instead, I read successful works of high-profile copywriters.
05:12These are the people he recommends checking out, including himself.
05:16Ryan?
05:17So don't stress when you're not an expert when you first start out.
05:20Just make sure you dedicate time to improving your skills every single week.
05:24Subscribe if you're enjoying this video so far.
05:26I put in a lot of effort.
05:28I went into detail on how you can create an outstanding portfolio as a freelancer in this video here.
05:33So make sure you go watch that video.
05:35Now, starting your own business without going broke.
05:38I'll tell you the realistic pros and cons.
05:41The smartest way to begin.
05:43The tools you actually need.
05:45And the mistakes that I made so you won't make them as well.
05:48And yes, I've got some free resources for you.
05:50So stay tuned to get it.
05:51When I was 17, I started a phone case business.
05:54And guess what?
05:55I didn't sell out because most people don't.
05:58The reason why you think everyone does is because the only people that post about it online are the ones who do.
06:04Most teens and students do not have the budget or the space to deal with inventory.
06:10If I could do it all over again, I would start with something less risky like a print-on-demand platform.
06:15And one example of that is Printify.
06:17Using a print-on-demand platform is really popular for a reason.
06:21It's because it's one of the easiest, low-effort ways to earn money as a side hustle.
06:25I mentioned it briefly just now, but here's how it works.
06:29Your product is only made after someone places an order.
06:32So let's take Printify as an example.
06:35Once you upload your design, it gets sent to one of their shipping partners.
06:38Then only after someone makes a purchase, they'll print, pack, and ship off the product to your customer.
06:44Creating an account is free.
06:45You don't need any startup capital.
06:47And unless you want to sell something handmade, I highly doubt that you can't find what you want to sell on these platforms
06:53because Printify alone has over 1,500 products.
06:57Just upload your design, connect it to Etsy, Shopify, or TikTok shop, and then you're in business.
07:03There are many tutorials on how to do this online, so I'll link a few down below.
07:07I'll tell you what you can use to design your products in a little bit.
07:10But I have a Korean sister-in-law that runs a successful Korean sauce company.
07:14So trust when I say printing, packing, and shipping is a nightmare.
07:18So that's why if you're a busy student, I highly recommend print-on-demand platforms
07:22because then you can actually focus on studying and you're not stuck at 2am trying to ship packages.
07:27If you're actually serious, I went and checked.
07:30You can actually sign up to something called Printify Premium and you'll spend $29 a month,
07:35but you'll get $20 off everything, so that's additional profit.
07:39I've linked the website down below.
07:40Go and explore.
07:41Now, here are the free tools that you need to launch your business.
07:44First, Canva.
07:46I use Canva for a lot of the animations that you see in my videos and also for the text in my thumbnails.
07:51It's perfect for designing product mock-ups, Instagram posts, and business cards.
07:55You name it, they have it.
07:56Two, Procreate.
07:58All those videos of people drawing on their iPads, 90% of the time, it's this app called Procreate.
08:04I know because I use Procreate for all my hand-drawn animations and also for all my thumbnails.
08:08It's $13, but it's the best $13 you'll ever spend.
08:11Three, ChetjBT.
08:13Ask it to guide you in writing product descriptions, SEO keywords, brand names, social media captions, and so much more.
08:19I know that this is all really overwhelming, so to help you out, in that free document I mentioned previously,
08:25I've also included a free guide that you can refer to if you're interested in starting your own business.
08:30Just follow these instructions to get it.
08:32Next, online tutoring.
08:35People severely underestimate online tutoring.
08:38An advertisement might play in the next few seconds, so if you'd like to support this channel, please do not skip the ad.
08:43Thank you!
08:44This is one of the most convenient ways to earn good money as a student and one that I highly recommend out of everything in this video.
08:51Now, I know what some of you are thinking.
08:53Faye, don't I need perfect grades to tutor someone?
08:56Not at all.
08:58My first job was tutoring 7-year-olds at a daycare.
09:01You don't need a rocket science degree to do that.
09:04Fun fact, I actually vlogged it and it's my first ever YouTube video.
09:07You only need to teach someone a few levels below you and know how to explain things clearly.
09:12Students actually prefer learning from someone who's just a few steps ahead rather than a prodigy who doesn't understand any beginner struggles.
09:20But how do you get students and start tutoring?
09:23Warm connections are your best friend in this scenario.
09:27This means starting with people who already know you.
09:30So tell your teachers because they often know younger students who need help and can recommend you directly.
09:35Reach out to family and friends via WhatsApp and WeChat and make a message that they can easily forward to any students that might want tutoring.
09:43Screenshot this.
09:44And also use community groups.
09:46I used to search up groups on Facebook, join them and then promote my services there.
09:50Make sure you message the admins of the group and check if you can self-promote.
09:54Really important, make sure you ask your first students to write up testimonials about how good your services are so that you can use them to boost your prices later on.
10:03My friend Afra charges $100 per hour.
10:06Afra isn't an expert with a fancy PhD.
10:09She just helps students with ESOL, IELTS and academic writing.
10:13She started small by posting on social media platforms like Sky Kiwi and Trade Me at the time.
10:18Afra and her friend who also does tutoring actually got so much demand to the point where they started an online tutoring business that turned over $5 million a year.
10:27Next, selling your notes.
10:29Selling my notes was actually how I earned my first $10,000 as a student.
10:33Some of you might know this.
10:34Now, if tutoring feels like too much of a time commitment and you want something that you can literally do now after finishing this video,
10:41selling study guides or your notes is a great alternative.
10:45A lot of students struggle with time management, especially during exams, and just don't have the time or energy to make their own notes.
10:52Even I buy notes in university.
10:54I've actually talked about this before briefly in a previous video.
10:58I'll link it right here.
10:59But now I'm going to explain how I sold my notes in detail this time.
11:03I started by scanning my handwritten notes using an app called CamScanner.
11:07Of course, if your notes are typed out, you don't have to do this.
11:10But if you're using CamScanner, please pay to remove the watermark.
11:14It just looks more professional.
11:15And really important, please remember to add your own watermark to protect yourself because someone has actually taken my notes and acted like it was theirs and sold it.
11:24Then I uploaded my notes into Google Drive and set the privacy settings to restricted.
11:29Then I went into Facebook study groups and offered free tutoring in exchange for me being able to promote my notes.
11:35This is what I talked about just now.
11:37And I even asked my teachers to tell their younger students that I'm selling my notes.
11:41I think my YouTube channel at the time had about 600 subscribers.
11:45So it was really small, but it also helped me boost my notes selling business.
11:49You can also sell your notes on these platforms, please screenshot.
11:52Every school, university and country sells their notes on different platforms.
11:56So make sure you check.
11:57But my top advice is if you really want to level up, turn your notes or your study material into physical books.
12:05I mean, look at this.
12:06There are nursing students doing this and even law students selling templates on Etsy.
12:10So you remember Printify that I mentioned earlier?
12:13This is the kind of thing that you can use it for.
12:16Here you can upload your notes, planners and study materials.
12:18Then they'll just print and ship it for you.
12:21Once you've found your customer and they've paid, just ask for their email and you can send them the Google Drive link.
12:27Important disclaimer.
12:28Always check your school or university's policy on note selling.
12:32Some don't allow it, so please be careful.
12:35Next, social media as a side hustle and if I recommend it.
12:38It's no secret, bestie, that you can earn a lot of money doing social media,
12:43but I personally would not recommend it as the first source of income that you should pursue.
12:49As a YouTuber, it might be weird for you to hear me say this,
12:52but I'm just coming from a place of an older sister if my younger sibling wants to start.
12:57It's a really long game and the money isn't even guaranteed.
13:01So I got my first YouTube paycheck about six months after starting and this is really quick by the way,
13:07this is a rare case.
13:08That paycheck was for RM680 and that was six months of un-ing work.
13:14In fact, there are over 114 million YouTube channels that are active right now,
13:19but less than 1% of channels make any money.
13:23Instagram and TikTok work differently.
13:24You only start getting paid a livable wage after brands start noticing you and partnering with you.
13:30So if you need the money now, I do not recommend starting social media.
13:34In fact, use the comment section down below to ask me any questions that you have about social media
13:39and I'll try to reply as many of you as possible
13:41because I know that a lot of you want to start social media but don't know who to ask.
13:46But I will 100% recommend social media if you're pursuing it alongside your studies and a part-time job.
13:53Do not under any circumstance quit your education or your job to start social media.
13:58There's a reason why I post so many mini vlogs on shorts and reels.
14:02It's because I want to show you that you can do both.
14:05You can pursue education and pursue creativity on the side.
14:08I refuse to be another creator that drops out.
14:11If you've made it this far, comment down below.
14:13I will become rich to really manifest and lock it in.
14:17Please click the like button because I really worked hard on this video.
14:20Subscribe and also turn on the notification bell and set it to all so you don't miss out on any future uploads.
14:26And I'll see you in my next video, bestie.
14:28Bye!
14:31Let's do the math.
14:32Let's do the math.
14:33Let's do the math.
14:35I'm out of breath.
14:37I asked on Insta what outfit I should wear for this video and you picked blue.
14:41I wanted to wear the pink one.
14:43So next week, I'm going to ask you what I should wear for the next video and you're going to pick the pink one even if you disagree, okay?
14:49Because I want to wear this one.
