Deadly winter storms have sharply intensified Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, flooding tent camps and collapsing already damaged buildings across the besieged territory. Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians, forced to live in overcrowded tents or unsafe structures after months of war, are now battling heavy rain, strong winds, and freezing conditions.
In northern Gaza’s Beit Lahia area, rescue teams searched through rubble after homes collapsed during overnight storms, trapping families beneath debris. Displaced residents described waking to violent vibrations as buildings gave way, highlighting the dangers of living in structures deemed unfit for habitation but used out of desperation due to the lack of alternatives.
Across makeshift camps in Gaza City, floodwaters pooled inside thin, worn tents, soaking blankets, clothes, and food supplies. Children were seen wading barefoot through muddy, contaminated water as families struggled to salvage what little they had. Residents say the tents offer no protection from rain or wind and urgently call for proper mobile shelters. The situation is compounded by Gaza’s devastated infrastructure and severe shortages of humanitarian aid. According to UN reports, essential winter supplies remain blocked or delayed at crossings, leaving displaced families exposed as storms continue. For many in Gaza, the harsh weather is another deadly consequence of war, blockade, and a collapsing humanitarian system.
