Niecy Nash-Betts and partner Jessica Betts chat with THR at the Disney post-Emmys carpet and tease her new show 'Grotesquerie' and working with Ryan Murphy. Plus, she talks working with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce and going to a football game.
00:00The premiere of Grotesquerie is coming so soon.
00:02What can you tease about this show?
00:05I can tell you that you will see me play a character you've never seen me play before.
00:09Although I've played many cops, this one is very different.
00:14Yeah, it's dark, it's haunting, and at some point you can't look away.
00:21Have you gotten to see any episodes of the show yet?
00:24Of course I have.
00:25What's it like seeing her in this darker role?
00:30It's amazing, and I just, I'm going to leave, you know, some of the excitement and the anticipation of, you know, in the mystery space, but it's amazing.
00:41What's your favorite part about collaborating with Ryan Murphy?
00:44First of all, Ryan is a genius.
00:47I don't even know what happens in his mind.
00:50But I, Grotesquerie was something that, as an artist, was a complete gift.
00:58I felt very satiated and very grateful that Ryan saw fit for me to lead the charge on this one.
01:07Now, I'm a major Swifty, so I have to ask, what was it like working with Travis Kelsey on this show?
01:11He's professional.
01:13He's on time.
01:15He's open to learn new things.
01:17He takes advice, and I think fans are going to be pleasantly surprised.
01:24Did it turn you into a Chiefs fan working with him?
01:27I can't even lie, yeah.
01:31We both are now.
01:33I love that.
01:34Have you been out to a game yet this season?
01:35You've got to get out to one.
01:36We're going in a few weeks.
01:38In a couple weeks.
01:38Like two weeks, three weeks?
01:39Yeah, we're going in a couple weeks.
01:40Yeah.
01:41We need you in the box with Taylor.
01:42That's what I want to see.
01:43Well, you know, we are going to be there.
01:46Yeah, we're going to be there.
01:46And if Taylor's there, then we'll all be there together.
01:49Yes, indeed.
01:49Looking forward to it.
01:51I love that.
01:51And, of course, we're at an Emmy's after party.
01:53What's a show that you were rooting for tonight that you really loved this year?
01:56I love Hacks.
01:58I absolutely love Hacks.
02:00I love Jean Smart, and I'm very, very happy that she got acknowledged tonight.
