00:01Mumbai.
00:02The city of dreams.
00:03Mayanagari.
00:04A city people trust.
00:05A city where women work night shifts.
00:07Board last local trains.
00:09Walk home alone.
00:10Because Mumbai has earned that reputation.
00:12Safe.
00:13Fearless.
00:14Reliable.
00:15But here is the question no one likes asking.
00:17What if that trust is quietly breaking?
00:19What if in this very city 4-5 girls are going missing?
00:23Every single day.
00:24Not rumours.
00:25Not whatsapp forwards.
00:26Official police data.
00:28Hello, I am Tejas and you are watching Lokmat Times.
00:30In this video, let's delve into the data of the missing girls.
00:33The criticism it has generated.
00:35And the clarification provided by the Mumbai police.
00:38But before we start, please do subscribe to Lokmat Times if you haven't already.
00:42And press the bell icon to never miss an update.
00:45According to the crime statistics recorded by the police, in the last 10 months alone,
00:49Mumbai police registered 1187 cases of kidnapping of minor girls.
00:54Let that number sit for a moment.
00:56That's not a typo.
00:57That's not over a decade.
00:59That's 10 months.
01:00According to Mumbai police records, out of those 1187 cases, 1118 have been solved.
01:07The rest still under investigation.
01:09Now before conclusions are drawn, let's go deeper.
01:12Because October tells us a lot.
01:14In October alone, 136 cases of kidnapping of minor girls were registered.
01:18That's more than 4 cases a day.
01:20In one city, in one month, 102 cases were solved.
01:23The rest stay open.
01:24And October wasn't an exception.
01:26From January to October, crimes against women, 5,886 cases.
01:31Over 5,500 solved.
01:33Rape cases, 1,025.
01:35And here is the part that's its hardest.
01:37526 of those involved minor girls.
01:40Kidnapping of minors, 1,187 cases.
01:43This isn't a spike.
01:45This is pattern.
01:46Month after month, the kidnapping numbers cross the 100 mark.
01:49January, 1,26.
01:50March, 1,31.
01:51August, 1,32.
01:52October, 1,36.
01:54The problem did not appear suddenly.
01:56It has been building quietly.
01:57So what's really happening here?
01:59Because not every missing case looks the same.
02:01Police say many cases involve elopement.
02:04Young girls running away due to romantic relationships.
02:07Some leave home after arguments.
02:09Anger, fear, pressure.
02:10And yes, there are darker realities too.
02:13Human trafficking, sex rackets, exploitation.
02:15In several cases, once the girls are traced,
02:18they are counselled and handed back to their families.
02:20Which raises a tough question.
02:22If most are found, why are the numbers still this high?
02:25That is exactly what sparked political reaction.
02:28Raj Thakri, citing national crime data,
02:31wrote a strong letter to the Chief Minister.
02:33His message was blunt.
02:34Children are being abducted.
02:36Girls are disappearing.
02:37Land is being grabbed.
02:38And yet, he asks,
02:40Does the legislator even discuss this seriously?
02:42Are winter sessions just for passing budgets?
02:45Where are the ministers when these questions are raised?
02:48And then comes the line that stings the most.
02:51While governments passionately debate slogans like
02:54One Day Mataram,
02:55Can they hear the cries of mothers looking for their daughters?
02:59Faced with public concern,
03:01Mumbai police issued a clarification.
03:03They say messages about missing children being circulated online are misleading.
03:08Here is their stand.
03:09Every missing child complained is treated with priority,
03:12with sensitivity, with urgency.
03:14After a Supreme Court order,
03:16every missing minor case is registered as kidnapping or abduction by default.
03:21And over the last 5 years,
03:2398% of missing children under 18 have been reunited with their families.
03:28They cite examples,
03:29like a 4-year-old girl missing for 6 months,
03:32traced and brought back safely from Varanasi.
03:35Multiple teams are involved,
03:36local police,
03:37crime branch,
03:38special units.
03:39And the message to citizens is clear.
03:41Don't spread unverified information.
03:44Trust official sources.
03:46So where does that leave us?
03:47Mumbai isn't unsafe in headlines.
03:49But numbers don't lie.
03:51If 4-5 girls are missing everyday,
03:53even temporarily,
03:54that's not normal.
03:55This isn't panic.
03:56This isn't propaganda.
03:57It's a reality that needs attention,
03:59transparency and accountability.
04:01Because a city earns trust slowly,
04:04but it can lose it very fast.
04:06I am Tejas and this was the story behind the numbers.
