00:00People on universal credit are effectively being stopped from switching bank account,
00:04which is bad for competition, bad for the economy, bad for consumers.
00:08And this is happening not because anybody wants it to.
00:11You know, switching bank account, you currently get up to £200 for free for switching account and better terms.
00:17And for all those people who are working and on universal credit especially, this is really important.
00:22But what happens, and it all happens, someone wrote to me saying,
00:25you say switch bank account, but I can't, I'm on universal credit.
00:28So I put something out on social to ask if other people are having the same experiences and was swamped.
00:33So many people to switch bank account on universal credit, even though switching bank is, you know,
00:38goes through fraud checks and is a government backed scheme,
00:41they have to go in and get an appointment with their universal credit person at the job centre.
00:46They're being told they need to come in, possibly take time off work to sit and sign the forms and it's not worth it.
00:51The universal credit system doesn't really understand digital banking.
00:55And then you bank cards that don't have a number on top of it or paperless statements.
