A sit-down interview with star Adam Pally and Rosa Salazar from the film 'Night Owls.'
Transcript
00:00Rosa Salazar and Adam Pagliar in the Driscoll Hotel right now we're about to
00:04go in and talk to them about their South by Southwest film Night Owls. Let's go.
00:09Be careful crossing the street. You guys have been here before. Are you supposed
00:14to be picked up by that Mike? Because you were very lackadaisical with it. If I get
00:17it too close it's a little loud. It's a little hot. I'm gonna try this question
00:22one more time. How is it this year? How's it been for this film? It's it's been
00:26great. I was here last year and I had a really good time but it's been really
00:30fun to have something that you're really proud of and to be able to talk to
00:34people like this for a project that you feel it's kind of a once-in-a-lifetime
00:38thing and hopefully it's received well. And it has been received well. I mean a
00:43lot of the critics say you take the boy meets girl genre and you turn it on its
00:48head. Was that the intention going into it? Did that happen organically? I never
00:52thought about breaking conventions and all this stuff because I just wanted to
00:56make a movie without him and then when I read the script I thought that this you
01:00know it's really a testament to Charles Hood. Charles and his co-writer made a
01:04script that is so interesting and these two characters are so fully fleshed out
01:08that it was really fun for us to play them but I never thought like no I'm
01:12trying to break that genre. One of the things that attracted me to the script was
01:16that it was romantic and it was a thriller and it was funny. You're just gonna have to
01:20keep her awake. Keep her awake? What happens if she falls asleep? Well then her brain will stop
01:25sending the signal to her lungs that she needs to breathe. But you're not gonna
01:29let that happen do we have to worry about that do we? Normally when we do
01:32interviews like this you know you have two people who are like sitting well
01:36behaved in their chairs and you guys have already like gone on the floor you've
01:40fought and then the tea thing so I can... Why are you pulling me out right now?
01:44Why you putting me on blast? Why you putting me on blast? We were like two kids um and we got to
01:49have a 17-day playtime. Yeah that's pretty much what it was. And that's and you're seeing it now
01:54it's like all coming out. Yeah because we get to see each other for a day and joke around.
01:58He broke my rib. He broke your rib? I did. Is that real? Yeah. Okay see I was gonna like
02:03get a last question in but now I need this story. Um there's a scene where I'm like I'm like I'm
02:08falling asleep. I'm like no I don't want to get up and he's like nope come on you're getting up and
02:11he he like scoops me up like this and picks me up really hard and fast and in the movie I go
02:19and that's because my rib is being pushed out of place. It was an act of love though. Yeah and I was
02:24like you really hurt me. I uh I felt really really felt so bad. Really bad about it the whole shoot
02:30and that was came after the first day of shooting where I swelled up her face from hitting her.
02:34For slap because I'm like asleep and he's like you guys and Charles was like you have to wake
02:38her up you have you can't movie slap her you have to slap her and the whole time he was like wake up wake
02:42up. I didn't want to. And Charles was like no and I was like dude fucking slap me and um. And so I did
02:48I let her have it a couple times. And then so he like dexed me. And then I then they called cut and Rosa
02:53there's like a hand. Oh my god. So we we really did uh beat the shit out of each other but that but
02:58again like there's few people that you trust enough to like let do that.
