00:00Welcome! What a great day to be Irish.
00:07There are moments in this job that can be exceptionally challenging,
00:12but they are more than offset by special moments,
00:16moments of extraordinary privilege,
00:19the sort of moments that define this university.
00:22What most significantly brought us to this day
00:25was that we had available to us
00:27the best possible candidate in America
00:30to lead this program and protect this culture
00:34and serve this university.
00:36Ladies and gentlemen, the 30th head coach of the University of Notre Dame,
00:39Marcus Freeman.
00:40I plan on leading this team with an unwavering standard.
00:44We will call it the Golden Standard.
00:50The Golden Standard is something that we live by day in and day out.
00:54TGS on two. One, two. TGS! TGS! TGS!
00:57TGS is the Golden Standard. TGS!
01:01So what is the Golden Standard?
01:04Number one is challenge everything.
01:06Challenge everything, man. Find a better way.
01:08Never just go status quo.
01:12We're not trying to stay complacent or stay in the same place.
01:15We're trying to get 1% better every single day.
01:18Number two is unit strength. Unit strength means love.
01:22You choose to love, so you're choosing to love your teammates.
01:26My teammates choose hard.
01:27We choose to love each other, gain each other's trust.
01:29And number three is the competitive spirit.
01:32It's creating a winner's mindset.
01:35I believe that leaders are born, but winners are created.
01:39And you're created through intentional actions.
01:42We live or die by those. Those are our standards.
01:46We set the standard and we don't falter and we don't fall to nobody about the standard.
01:50And you can either raise yourself to it or fall below it.
01:53This standard will be unwavering.
01:55And this is the standard that will drive this football program to his 12th national championship.
02:14First game under your belt, man.
02:15Yeah.
02:16How do you feel?
02:17Would have liked it to end a little different, but it was good.
02:21Yeah.
02:22Learning opportunities all over.
02:25There's nothing like getting the first one under your belt.
02:29You don't know what you don't know.
02:31You know what I mean?
02:32Like nothing could prepare you for that moment other than playing it.
02:37I met with CJ and told him I was proud of him.
02:39First game, hostile environment.
02:42You know, he played well versus a really good defense.
02:46Like overall, he performed really well.
02:49I was like, did he just throw a note like this now?
02:51That's why you're CJ Carter.
02:53That's why you're starting quarterback.
02:55We are at a better elevation height.
02:58Like where we're at right now versus last year, game one, I promised for a better team.
03:03You know, but the outcome wasn't what we wanted.
03:05And so we got to continue to get better, right?
03:10Because it ain't like we got an easy one coming out.
03:14CJ wants to be perfect like we all do.
03:16But at the end of the day, CJ played really well.
03:18And that's going to be the foundation for what his future is here at Notre Dame.
03:26You handled the environment, the play clock.
03:28You know what I mean?
03:29You were aware.
03:30You're just going to become more and more comfortable.
03:32I could tell you from the first play to the last play, like,
03:38I feel like we could see ourselves be more comfortable as the game went on.
03:41Yeah.
03:42It felt like they couldn't stop us in the second half.
03:44We stopped ourselves in the first half.
03:47That's why this week is going to be important.
03:49Keep going.
03:50Keep leading.
03:51Yes, sir.
03:52Keep going.
03:53Okay.
03:54All right.
03:55Appreciate it.
03:56Yep.
03:57Appreciate it.
04:03CJ, I think, is a very, very competitive person at heart.
04:07Emotional.
04:09You know, he wants to do well as much as anybody that I've ever been around.
04:13It's important to him that he's the best at what he does.
04:17It was quite an environment for CJ to start his career.
04:23In this era of college athletics and football and the way the playoff is structured,
04:28it's good to have that early.
04:30If you're going to lose, and that's a really talented Miami team.
04:34So I think everybody's got to put things in perspective a little bit.
04:41It's a hard start to the year.
04:43All right.
04:44Let's roll.
04:45Okay.
04:46With tradition comes responsibility.
04:47All right.
04:48Well, we get an opportunity.
04:49All right.
04:50To play in this place.
04:51This special place.
04:52All right.
04:53730 Saturday night.
04:55Who it starts with?
04:56It starts with number 10, the quarterback.
04:57All right.
04:58He makes the thing go.
04:59Okay.
05:00He's the leading passer.
05:01He's the leading rusher on the squad.
05:02Marcel Reed raised the ceiling on the quarterback position at Texas A&M.
05:07Now the question is, how good can he be?
05:10Start fast across the board at all positions.
05:13Must have great pursuit and gain tackle.
05:15Get to the down ball.
05:16All right.
05:17That's the mentality.
05:18That's our keys to victory.
05:19I think it's just really good for college football to have brands like that clashing early
05:24and to give us those measuring sticks for both of those teams to have a really good sense of who they are.
05:30Don't be a snooze guy.
05:31Don't be a snooze guy.
05:32All right.
05:33Don't be a snooze guy.
05:34Do it now.
05:35You just got to applaud it because not everyone is willing to do that.
05:38Do it now.
05:39Fix it.
05:40Get it done now.
05:41Right.
05:42Play fast now.
05:43Do it now.
05:44Have that mentality about yourself.
05:46Have a sense of urgency about yourself and everything that you do.
05:50So as soon as you come into this building, have a sense of urgency.
05:53As soon as you get your ass up in the morning, have a sense of urgency about everything that
05:57you do.
05:58If you do that, you're going to be that much better.
06:01I know this week we're going to hit the ground running for sure.
06:06Practice is going to be hard.
06:07Take the field.
06:08Hurry up.
06:09Hurry up.
06:10Hurry up.
06:11Hurry up.
06:21The mindset we play at home is always defend our home.
06:24It's our house.
06:27We don't want someone walking into our house, kicking our front door down and taking our stuff.
06:32Especially when you're with your brothers.
06:33The competition is going to be through the roof.
06:36No one likes losing, obviously.
06:38And our team is going to show that, you know, within this week of practice.
06:42The first time to play in Notre Dame Stadium each season is special.
06:46And we have to make sure we prepare in a way of understanding the opportunity that we have.
06:51Stay up, stay up, stay up, stay up, stay up.
06:53To play in front of our home fans versus the top 25 team.
06:58It's going to be a great experience.
07:01Just remember, like, what Coach Mick talked about, the sense of urgency.
07:04I believe your sense of urgency is a reflection of how important something is to you.
07:09So we've got to make sure that the importance of elevating is more important than anything.
07:13Everybody wants it, man.
07:15I say it all the time, but not everybody's willing to do it.
07:18Our choices will reflect what we value.
07:20Everybody understand that?
07:21If it's important, we'll have a sense of urgency to do those things.
07:24Everybody on the same page?
07:26You got a meal?
07:27TGS on two.
07:28One, two.
07:29TGS.
07:31Okay.
07:32We're gonna try this box.
07:33Ready?
07:34Ready?
07:35Is this your first Leprechaun Traves?
07:36It is my first Leprechaun Traves.
07:37I believe in this group.
07:42We have four Leprechauns.
07:57gold blue and then two green gold is football always football
08:06there aren't many mascots like us we are always striving to be a force for good
08:11the leprechaun signifies that welcome to the 2025 2026 notre dame leprechaun tryouts who's ready
08:22all right the in-person tryout is a combination of a pep rally or in-game scenario which they're
08:33only given two minutes to prepare for they're given an envelope with a prompt and say hey
08:37now go out there and perform that a media interview marcus freeman was an excellent
08:47coach these past three years he's going to continue doing great things it's a mental
08:51game because you prepare for everything that you can but then what product are you going
08:55to put out are you confident did you freeze up
09:04i'm mckenna engelhart i'm a current senior and i've been a leprechaun for two years so far
09:11for me the process started out as a bit of a joke actually they had sent out a notice about oh you
09:18can be one of the leprechauns and i started to realize oh there's a lot more to this than just
09:24being there at sports games and so that kept me coming back leprechaun mckenna good to meet you guys
09:30i think something that's really special about mckenna as a leprechaun is one how much she's grown in her
09:37role we're really happy with the legacy of everyone that comes and plays and gets to be a part of this
09:42community the last couple of years she's covered both men's women's soccer hockey lacrosse and she
09:49brings a really unique style to the role awesome we are not a traditional mascot in that people
09:57see our faces they get to know our names and while we are still conveying that kind of playful spirit of
10:04notre dame at the end of the day we still are a version of ourselves this braiding is definitely where
10:10the dance experience comes in i get butterflies still i would say before almost any event i do as
10:19leprechaun with tryouts everyone there is there to see you that makes me scared please give it up for
10:29leprechaun mckenna anyone can come watch and they fill one of the gyms oh come on come on let's hear it
10:46that's probably one of the biggest traditions about leprechaun trials back in the day like they would
10:50pack kids in like her dance and it would be crazy all right all right irish fans ladies and gentlemen
10:57boys and girls and most importantly irish fans how's it going
11:05okay okay i think you can do better than that i said how's it going irish fans
11:12now that is more like it when we're judging to choose the students to portray the role we're looking
11:19for a lot of different things are they charismatic do they understand that they're representing something
11:25so much bigger than themselves there's kind of like a spark that they have
11:32it's hard to put a word on but you'll know when you see someone and you're like yeah that that person
11:36they got it here we go we are andy louder you want to call some cheers get the crowd involved and just
11:46show that you're able to think quick on your feet and engage people with whatever environment you're
11:52thrown into
11:54and then that's all done we can take pictures quickly with our friends and family
12:11i'll see you after is it everything you thought it would be maybe more intense okay and we go into what
12:17is honestly one of my favorite parts we change back into our normal clothes and we get to talk with
12:23the panel of judges hi mckenna hey how are you good how are you doing i'm okay thank you tell us how
12:31you hope to continue to impact the role of the program in the university i think what's really
12:36unique about this role is we each get to try to encapsulate a little bit of this community you know
12:41i want to continue leading this university in a way that reflects our core values and what our university
12:46stands for what notre dame is at its core is a set of people and the honor of the leprechaun is
12:51getting to serve those people in different ways being a part of it we all know how special it is and
12:56how diverse it is but i think through this role and showing a little bit of our personality we're able
13:02to remind others around us of that and that's something i personally hope to do all right thanks
13:07mckenna appreciate you all right we'll see you soon awesome thank you guys so much all right thank you guys
13:13the big difference we're talking about between gold and blue is just who's doing football who can
13:20command the larger crowd you get a lot of spotlight on you when you're doing football and you get
13:29corrections pretty quick like you know people notice when you mess up candidly what we have to base it on
13:37right now is if they had to do it tomorrow who would do it best okay so we're feeling pretty good about
13:47this hello hello
13:52how's it going no surprises here we would love if you would be willing to portray the neurame leprechaun for
13:59the 2025-2026 season only one favor to ask is that you flip your vest inside out to portray the gold
14:07leprechaun thank you absolutely 2025 will be the first year that there's the first woman portraying
14:16the role as the gold leprechaun thanks congratulations and so her stepping into that gives more little
14:23girls all over the world who are notre dame fans fighting irish fans that they can do hard things and they
14:29can be in rooms that are traditionally filled with men for me and for everyone that knows
14:35what notre dame is they know how diverse it is and that no four students can ever perfectly encapsulate
14:41that though it's only right that we're here today at the rock knee memorial to wake up these echoes
14:48before marching on to victory
14:50at the end of the day i just want them to have the best experience and to get to share a little
14:59bit of the magic of this place of notre dame so when i say go irish you're gonna have to shout
15:05back at me beat aggies as loud as you can here we go go irish
15:13go irish
15:19damn it's good to be back home
15:25i just want to make sure you guys remember if you were here last year
15:29the last time we were in that stadium it was electric and we need to make sure tomorrow night
15:37you keep that same energy and you guys go crazy um we were just down at a m last year and it was
15:42pretty loud but it's nothing compared to what it's going to be like tomorrow night so we love you
15:49we love you i swear we love you we're glad to be home and i want to thank you guys so much for coming
15:54out here supporting us um and i let's make a crazy environment tomorrow um you know last year they
15:59said texas and that was going to be crazy but they have no idea what they're walking into coming to
16:03notre dame all right let's go irish
16:07welcome everyone to the 2025 notre dame football home opener tonight a primetime matchup of two
16:25ranked teams as the 16th ranked texas a&m aggies make their first trip to south bend since 2000
16:32to clash with the eighth ranked fighting irish of notre dame
16:41i think the loss two weeks ago just put kind of an extra sense of urgency in everyone from the
16:46players the coaches and certainly people on the sideline are acting like it is suddenly
16:51as big of a game as you can have at this point in the season
16:55coach mick said all week he's talking about the first thing he said was with tradition comes
16:59responsibility of protecting this house right the opportunity to protect this stadium
17:06he talked about having a sense of urgency right and that's got to be the consistent
17:11sense of urgency we have throughout the game right he talked about the opportunity man this is the only
17:16opportunity that matters nothing else matters but what we got right in front of us our lady queen of
17:24victory this is the most exciting and electric atmosphere i have ever been a part of at notre dame
17:45opening drive of the game not even a minute gone so far as reed takes the snap he'll drop and swing it
18:08out pass is caught not going to be enough and they force a punt one of the things we talked about
18:14was coming out of locker room starting fast and uh the defense forced to point jordan phase on set
18:20to return he's standing at the irish 22. oh the kick is blocked watch the 20 loose fall
18:26and this one's gonna go for six what a turn for the irish touchdown notre dame special teams does it again
18:41wow i don't know exactly what i was doing at that moment but i didn't even see
18:46the block punt i just saw everybody going crazy you gotta do your job he almost took the ball away from
18:54the punter what an amazing play this is the notre dame we know
19:04huge momentum builder for our team and the start of that game well they give it to love double reverse
19:11back to car he's got reardon wide open down the floor sideline caught at the 20 inside the 10
19:20lunging for the pylon and he's just shy razzle dazzle for the irish
19:29i saw that early in the call sheet and i was a little nervous i didn't know how i was gonna end up
19:33what a play call and what an execution by the offense mike denbrock in his bag a little bit here early
19:39you know kind of saw it develop saw eli running pretty free and um then you say hey let's execute
19:46and throw the ball to where it needs to be if it goes really well like it did it's a huge burst of
19:53energy for the whole team it's a little bit of a risk but um you know we execute well car will take
19:59the snap give it to price running right cuts inside has a hole across the five still on his feet through
20:04an arm tackle and he's in touchdown notre dame the price is right for notre dame from seven yards out
20:12to take the lead
20:16i didn't think we started fast enough against miami agreed out of the shotgun play fakes looks left
20:21throws one-on-one letter moore's there and it's intercepted wow no fly zone when 15 is in the area code
20:29you go block punt and then an interception after that so it was a great way to start the game for
20:34sure irish on the move leading by three car looking on a wheel route loves wide open catch to the 20
20:40he's inside the 10 for the goal line touchdown cj card and jeremiah love 36 yards and the irish extend the lead
20:51they just kind of left them naked out there and kind of put a ball even probably a little too hard
21:01out there nobody takes jeremiah love the most dangerous guy on the field for notre dame
21:06and a touchdown for the irish and someone's that wide open just put it on him and let him run
21:12especially jeremiah but he made a heck of a catch and there is a ton of football left
21:18time car just loves it too high and intercepted scooby williams and this time a and m is right
21:29there for the takeaway a late jump pass by cj carr he'll want to have ran that one next time he looks at it
21:37reed takes a shotgun snap fires craver brings it in another dart from marcel reed he's slinging it
21:52right now well i think they have some explosive playmakers on the outside uh we knew going into
21:58the game they were fast um in in the quarterback you knew through some some great passes and they
22:03made some plays direct snap to moss runs between the tackles for the goal line spins and he's in
22:10and the aggies for the first time all game have the lead
22:17they not a whole lot needs to be said right it's 24 to 28 right 24 is enough but we need more defense we
22:24gotta step up don't blink car has fields down to the bottom along the near numbers takes the shotgun
22:34snap looking that way firing for fields along the sideline goes up and he brings it in oh what a catch
22:40by malachi fields on third and 13 brings it in for 27 yards car stands in a pistol formation with price
22:50behind him gets the snap off just in time hands it off to price running left trying to get to the edge
22:55stays on his feet at the 15 gets a block at the 10 jadorian prices in touchdown notre dame and the irish
23:02are back on top we have the best you know one-two punch at running back in the country and
23:10all eyes are on jay love and then jadorian comes in and scores two touchdowns for us it's huge
23:16a 17 yard scamper and jadorian has done it again he is one of the most consistent players we have
23:25you trust when he has the the ball in his hands that he's going to make something positive happen
23:31he's a selfless individual could be on the field every play but he makes the most of his opportunities
23:39and now with 906 left you're looking at a drive that's going to dictate how this game plays out
23:44the whole second half was just continue to take back the lead we'd go up they'd take it back we'd
23:52take it back they'd take it back cars with the shotgun they need their own 48 to pick up a first
23:58down car drops looks left throws has fields yes caught it car dropped it in a bucket incredible
24:05accuracy by cj carr it was a tight ball game and uh our offense had been rolling for the majority of the game
24:14i wanted to make sure that drive was no different you're going to continue to execute
24:22third and a long three they need the 17 yard line 435 to go in the game it's tied at 34. car
24:28claps for the ball hands it off to price stutter steps in the hole lunges forward he's not going to
24:33have it it's going to be fourth and about a yard and a half and now the decision the communication
24:38between myself and coach dembrock was hey i was really thinking about kicking the field going
24:42just going up three and then i kind of took a peek at dembrock we need to go for it pistol formation
24:49loves behind car play clocks at five now he motions out of the backfield loves by himself
24:54kind of message was you know this is it two on the play clock takes a direct snap here goes love on
25:00fourth down he's got it oh what a run across the 15 jeremiah love moves the chains with six yards
25:08fitting that the best player on offense tonight gets his number called when they need it most
25:15gutsy stuff for marcus freeman then the thought process was like okay let's try to use some of
25:21this time he'll give it to love puts his head down breaks one tackle across the five he's in touchdown
25:28jeremiah love and the irish lead and you know the next play j love scores a touchdown
25:40with 253 to go in regulation notre dame's on top by a touchdown 40 to 34.
25:48and love is in the air in south ben
26:02critical extra point from burnett to make it a seven point game
26:07i was on the sideline we were getting back to the ipads and kind of heard the crowd go
26:11out oh no they botched the snap tyler buckner rolling left has to throw incomplete oh no
26:23they missed the extra point with a botched snap and now a and m with a touchdown could possibly win the
26:30game anytime something negative happens you're you're disappointed but you gotta get refocused
26:36for the defense going on the field and so you know you can't dwell on the negatives oh the special
26:42teams have been so good tonight and now 40 to 34 and the pressure's really on the defense
26:51you gotta move forward and win the next play
26:55breed takes the snap throws underneath it's caught by craver has a seam across the 50 along the far sideline
27:00inside the 40 shoved out of bounds by tate johnson just like that the aggies rip off a 35-yard play and
27:07they're in business they made some great plays because they had some really good players and executed well
27:12fourth goal notre dame leads 40 to 34. the season very much on the line right now
27:24reed motions concepcion to the left takes the shotgun snap fourth and goal here's the ball game pumps
27:30throws throws for the end zone
27:35oh what a catch it's brought in by nate borkercher a desperation play for the aggies pays off
27:46we had the guy covered it was one-on-one and the tight end made a heck of a play the quarterback threw a
27:51great ball
27:51you know i wouldn't change anything we did and that is the ball game texas a m comes to south bend
28:03and shocks the irish and that is a heartbreaker for notre dame
28:12stinks nobody wants to start the year off oh and two especially with the the talent we have on
28:18offense defense special teams but we are and you know that's reality of it how do you address your
28:25team what's important in that moment when everybody's disappointed we got to get back to work you have a
28:33leader that's unshakable and unbreakable i'm going to lead in the best way i know how and and that's fast and
28:41furious
28:53these two losses are just devastating i'm glad they're still in the top 25. it's still a very
29:01good football team they just happen to have gotten beat by two better football teams
29:11after a loss you try to figure out why what are the reasons
29:17i think we all go through different emotional stages um from frustration to disbelief to
29:25okay how do we use this to acceptance to make us better you don't want you shouldn't want to be a
29:29head coach if you don't want to leave during tough times i don't want to be in this situation but
29:33i get more excited to leave right now than ever before how you believe during tough times affects
29:39how people see you what do you guys think i think that's spot on um
29:46um we're on two it's not going to change we're not going to un-lose those games
29:55we need to go that's right and that's right i trust it i know we will i know we have the guys too
30:02um there's nobody else i'd rather do it with you guys feel the same way
30:06like how you think is it's half of the battle oh he did this that or not that's not how we play
30:12you know what i mean so we just got it especially defensively which is not executing at the same
30:16rate we did last year
30:19you know you have to be able to collect your thoughts by the time you you meet with your team
30:26probably 48 hours after the game you know for me it was just trying to put all the pieces
30:32together and make them understand that outcomes don't always tell the true story you try not to
30:37be outcome driven but we're evaluated off of outcomes our focus has to be to reach our full potential
30:43and we got to attack ways to do that good here we go
30:53right ready all right let's roll you all have to self-reflect and self-eval okay
31:01every person in this room's got to say okay we didn't get it done okay why what what didn't i do
31:07what didn't i do and how do we make it better and until we have that mentality guess what we ain't
31:13gonna do this until everybody collectively says okay where did i fail and not point your finger
31:22like i could come in here and sit here and go hey guys we're we're five points away from being two and
31:27oh what's that gonna do i mean make me feel better make us feel better the reality is we're oh and two
31:34don't hide from it we're oh and two that's where we're at what are we gonna do to get out of it i
31:44just told the captains it's crazy how two people can see the exact same thing and have completely
31:50different opinions about what they saw people outside here notre dame football is oh and two
31:56offense is great and the defense sucks it's somebody it's one person's fault buckner it's your fault because
32:01you dropped drake it's your fault it's coaching asses fault it's coach freeman's fault it's every
32:04person in this room's fault it's every person in this room's fault everybody looks at last year man
32:12you guys had a great season you guys been now championship game there was some pain if you were
32:17in this room after new linois that hurt i'm telling you we're gonna reach this full potential but you
32:22gotta understand it's gonna be some pain we gotta go through it you got a head coach i swear to god we'll
32:27go down swinging every day there's only one way to go and that's four and we got to do it together
32:34because that's what family does and it starts with this opportunity on saturday we'll get our first
32:39taste okay but it takes struggling and pain today and evaluating and owning it and making sure we do
32:45whatever it takes to get better everybody clear let's go to work tjs on two one two yes oh and two we
32:53get to write our own chapter everything right there in front of us that's that's the mindset we gotta
32:58have right yeah we played well but we ain't played well enough
33:12none of us want to be in this situation losing sucks can't sleep can't eat don't want to talk to nobody
33:19you know what man roll our sleeve up man let's go back to work so only thing we know how to do is get
33:23better correct all the little details that we overlook
33:31that alarm clock goes off get up ten toes down go to work we play good but we still can elevate
33:41you're a great player to be a better person lead this team that's willing to win
33:56i grew up in denison texas which is about an hour north of dallas texas
34:16small town where everyone really knows each other
34:17growing up it was either your texas longhorns fans or oklahoma sooners fan and i wasn't really
34:28much either i wanted to do something different i wanted to do something that was going to really
34:32change my life for the better and put dennison texas on the map and my family on the map and that
34:38was gold to a random catholic university in southbound indiana hands it off to price jd is a
34:47playmaker he's running left looking for the edge jd can pretty much do it all you can run routes
34:53you can block run the ball turns on the jets jd made some incredible plays last season i see it every
34:59single day you know all the eyes get pointed to jay love but then you put your darling and it's almost
35:04like okay jay love's out of the game and then jd does the same thing jay love does and makes
35:0911 players on the other team look slow look like they can't tackle runs through a tackle
35:14in my eyes he's the best running backs in the country jdarian price
35:22i've always had people looking up to me my whole life
35:27growing up i was the older brother of two younger sisters so i've always had to be
35:32the mature one not always leading by my voice but just leading by example there wasn't any male
35:39figures around growing up with a bunch of women in the house definitely i would think made him
35:47stronger my mom was always there and my sisters were always there so i knew how to respect people
35:52and and do the right things definitely seeing his mom being single parent i think that molded him
35:59usually you would think it would be the opposite not having the father around my mom played a huge
36:04role in my everyday life she sacrificed a lot of things having to work a job but also take care of
36:09three young kids and we were all in a lot of extracurricular activities like football basketball
36:14track baseball i mean i played it all her having to navigate this crazy world of you know sports and
36:22you know keeping us off the streets and things like that was uh i bet it was pretty challenging for her but
36:28it was really important for me to see her do those things
36:36at the time i was 30 years old at a certain age you're supposed to do mammograms and breast
36:44examination and once i went and made an appointment to see the doctor they did an exam and they all came
36:51in and closed the door and i'm looking and that's when i knew and i said you've got to be kidding me
36:59we feel something it's a lump
37:04what do you tell a 12 year old a nine year old and a six year old i was the mature one in the household
37:11but i still didn't really understand you know how serious cancer was but then then i started to look
37:16and think now i have to step up even more for my sisters and be there for them he was humble still
37:23real quiet he just observed that's what i needed at the time just them being kids and just being around
37:30helped me just helped me knowing that i had to be around for them biggest thing for me and my sisters
37:36was we wanted our mom to come home from the hospital to a clean home yard cut kitchen clean things like
37:41that so just to make my mom happy any way we could because we knew she was going through tough times
37:47there was the stages where her hair started to fall out and that's when i started to realize oh this is
37:52like a serious thing like she's losing her hair and sometimes i'll walk in on her crying and that
37:57really that really hit me deep i didn't know how to take it i didn't know what i didn't comprehend i
38:04guess well why me why me she didn't know how much longer she had to live at that time
38:12when my mom was going through those tough times uh for me it was always sports where i could really
38:18push my emotions onto you know football if you're angry you can really use the football field and
38:26your abilities to just go out there and express those emotions out there
38:30in november 2017 i was around 14 years old when it was announced that she was cancer free i remember
38:42it was a big thing we all met up at this church in dennison texas and the whole family was there
38:49everyone had on pink shirts and things like that and that's when i really knew like this is very important
38:54thankful blessed it was a miracle don't really think everybody was shocked because they already
39:07knew i was a fighter it was so much relief but it also had changed me forever you know just because
39:15she was she didn't have cancer anymore she wasn't going through chemo anymore it didn't change the
39:19fact that i was still the older brother in the household and i still had to look out for my sisters
39:25because it was already ingrained in my brain to just you know work hard every day and it motivated
39:29me still on the field because you never know what tomorrow brings i'm super blessed to still have my
39:38mom your mom is your rock i'm blessed because not a lot of other people still have you know their mom or
39:46both parents to this day i make sure my mom comes to every game whenever she can
39:51amazing the loudness how people come together and the support it hadn't hit us yet reality
40:08it's not quite hit us yet because we've been just going through the struggle for so long
40:12so we're just just taking it all in it keeps me going i think about the 12 year old me and everything
40:26i've gone through my whole life and now ending up at university notre dame playing football at the
40:31biggest stage game day when we hear the song and it really it really hits me like this is how far i've
40:37come and every moment up until now has really meant something the thing that comes to mind is
40:55everything happens for a reason god always has a plan my mom always told me that
41:07happy college football saturday america and welcome to notre dame football
41:25a classic college football rivalry is renewed between the purdue boilermakers
41:30and the 24th ranked fighting irish of notre dame let's be clear if you want to stay in the
41:37college football playoffs you got to start beating the corrects off the teams and it has to start today
41:45we're back here we are man this is the only remedy there is
41:54it's transactional you play harder you out execute them and we get what we want
42:03that's all you gotta win this play
42:07everybody clear i'm not worried about the game i'm not worried about the outcome notre dame gets
42:15the ball now for the first time offensively we gotta win this play right now this is the play we
42:20gotta win cj carr starting his third game of his career takes the snap and play fakes carr looking has a
42:28clean pocket taking a shot has fields deep down there he catches at the 25 across the 20 he's in touchdown
42:36notre dame on the first offensive play they strike
42:42i knew we wanted to take a shot the first play great protection great ball and then a great catch
42:48great execution
42:53it's kind of crazy you know first play first drive
42:56toad and just like that notre dame is on the board
43:04hey where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go
43:06where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go you already know what i'm
43:11going to say coach don't do a don't do a back flip again who did yeah one of your scores he did a
43:15back flip in the end zone no he didn't hey hey they just warned me next hey they said another back
43:23look that's 15. nobody's worth 15. all right
43:26you know set the tone for the game notre dame it's guaranteeing or dominate to give it to love
43:37and a lot's got some room to go and flash that speed had a way to run four not a way to run price
43:44gets his first carry running right has a full head of steam across the 10 looking for the pylon dives
43:49for the goal line touchdown yeah janari and price from 21 yards out on his first carry of the game
43:58hits the end zone that's the way to go oh that's the way those two guys are pretty special they're
44:05unselfish you know each of those guys can be on the field at every play you can give them the ball
44:10every play but they know there can usually only be one running back on the field at a time
44:14you need us a turnover brown out of the shotgun looks right throws on a slant oh it's picked off
44:23picked off in the secondary notre dame has the football that's what we needed that was all because
44:30of the work of your linebackers and that ball popped up into the open arms of christian gray
44:38that's what we needed that's what we needed that's what we needed let's go notre dame leads 21 to 10.
44:48carr will hand it off to jodarian price who finds a hole and tries to get out to the near sideline
44:52through the hard running by jodarian price third and one price gets the carry stutter steps gets inside
44:57to the 10 he's got the first down this is just a wonderful design game plan let's run the ball
45:04to the edges in between the tackles are will hand it off to price running to the right bounces outside
45:10he's inside the five looking for the end zone again and jodarian price is in the house for the
45:15second time touchdown notre dame hell yeah way to finish all right just been informed from the
45:23officials here that there is a weather delay dangerous lightning too close so they are sending
45:31players to the locker room we're gonna suspend here suspend the game
45:38suspend the game let's go locker room everybody locker room
45:48i think you have to one understand how long it's going to be
45:53you have to be able to take off your equipment relax
45:56and then utilize the time efficiently and then the hardest part is is the challenge is to get
46:05mentally ready to go again here's all i gotta say okay offense right we have to avoid the catastrophic
46:11error we know that right they had one chance and we had one air okay they forced us to fumble you got
46:16to take care of the ball but continue all you're doing is playing harder than them and you're out
46:20executing them so continue to do that okay defensively you have to do your job that's all it is man
46:27that's all it is man do your job come out the locker room and let's go hunt everybody good let's
46:33go here we go dgs on two one two let's go jodarian price gonna get his hands on it here from one yard
46:41deep bringing it back right to left so he can find a crease gets through one tackle he's at the 25 across
46:46the 30 breaks the tackle he's across midfield he's gonna go all the way
46:50touchdown jodarian price kickoff return td how about jodarian price he's got 199 all-purpose yards with
47:03three touchdowns in the first half and that's really the standard execute no matter the
47:10circumstances just get your job done loves the back he'll give it to him bounces out to the right
47:16puts his foot in the turf with the 40 trying to get all the way to the outside to the sideline
47:19love turns the corner of the 30 and streaking for the end zone touchdown notre dame with a run by
47:26love there's no better feeling than scoring a touchdown at your home notre dame running
47:32running the ball towards victory hey keep hey keep helping hey that's what your team needs you to do
47:39man we need you we need you good job we'll just dominate on the shotgun has time looking down the
47:47near sideline he's got face on it 20 catches to the 15 inside the 10 for the end zone face on's in
47:53just a perfect ball from cj carr first and goal price is the back
47:59back gets the handoff running right cuts inside for the goal line he's in again another touchdown
48:06for jodarian price his third on the ground and his fourth in the game
48:16i think i've always said this is that the unselfishness that's what makes him special he
48:20understands the lay gratification he works he prepares and he takes advantage of um the opportunities
48:26that are given to him incredible day for jodarian price the kind of day that a running back can only
48:32dreamer
48:40notre dame has their first win of the season they beat the purdue boilermakers 56 to 30 and the offense
48:50makes a big statement in south ben but the star of the show is jodarian price and his four touchdowns
49:01who would have thought that i'd be here small town dennison texas and now i'm
49:05playing for notre dame i think about it every day like this is crazy
49:09sometimes i have to sit back and come back to reality like this is real
49:14i knew i wanted to be a college football player since the beginning it was always a dream of mine
49:20and the fact that i'm actually here at the biggest stage is truly a blessing
49:25this is where you work hard this feeling that we all have right now there is no drug there is
49:31no drink there is nothing that could give you this type of feeling the feeling of victory especially
49:36when you put everything into this right and and everybody now instead of doing this now it's time
49:43to do this right when we have success it's time to point your finger at everybody else man because
49:48it's the greatest team sport there is appreciate the way you guys stayed together right this is the
49:54start probably 200 probably 80 days since we've been able to do this maybe 90 right you know what time
