00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:30Evening, just the four matches tonight, but no shortage of storylines.
00:47These two will more than likely throw me under the bus.
00:51After being left out of the Liverpool squad for the midweek trip to Inter Milan,
00:55Mo Salah was back on the bench for the visit of Brighton.
00:58Guy Mowbray was at Anfield.
01:00Only one place to start.
01:04It's been one of the most eagerly awaited team sheets of the season,
01:07with Mohamed Salah indeed back for Liverpool,
01:10but only as a substitute as Arnaz Slott makes two changes from Tuesday's win in Milan.
01:16Milos Kerkhez returns at left-back in place of Andy Robertson,
01:20and there's a start for Florian Wirtz.
01:22He's in for Alexander Isak, also on the bench, having taken a knock at the San Siro.
01:27And it's a milestone match for Curtis Jones, as he brings up 200 first-team games for Liverpool.
01:34For Brighton, also two team changes, with Brian Gruda and Jack Hinchelwood,
01:38replacing Maxime De Kuyper and Danny Welbeck.
01:41Hinchelwood got the winning goal for the Seagulls when they last faced Liverpool in May.
01:45They've never beaten them in successive league meetings.
01:53And it's Brighton to get things going.
01:56Starting the weekend in eighth place in the Premier League, above Liverpool on goal difference.
02:02And here they are at a ground where they've only ever won three times in 20 visits overall.
02:13Just once in the Premier League, and that was in February of 2021.
02:18Lewis Dunk playing it back to Bart Verbruggen, who was under the pump already from Curtis Jones,
02:24doing a lot of the hard running that is very much a part of his game.
02:29Jones only half won the ball there, though.
02:36Minter took a bit of a lash at it.
02:38Gomez back into the box.
02:39Hekateke!
02:44Liverpool take the lead in seconds.
02:4748 of them.
02:48Well, it is the Brighton way.
02:53They love to play out from the back.
02:55Perhaps there they should have done a bit more playing, because this seemed unnecessarily risky.
03:01Gomez got to it first.
03:03Still quite a bit for Ugo Eketike to do.
03:07He got everything just right.
03:10Liverpool 1, Brighton 0.
03:13He's right to take a bow, son.
03:15I think that's how we'd describe that look.
03:22Or maybe just engrossed in the game like the rest of us.
03:27Van Hecker, that's a good pass.
03:28Ruter.
03:31Minter.
03:34Minter with a chance to shoot.
03:35I think Alisson had it covered, but it was a close thing.
03:40A little bit more bend, and his fingertips might have been touched.
03:45Van Hecker.
03:52FIFA.
03:54Got away from Jones.
03:55That's OK.
03:55Here's Minter.
03:56That's a lovely ball.
03:58What a move that was from Brighton.
03:59And a big save from Alisson.
04:02That's now going to be a Liverpool free kick.
04:04But they're indebted to their goalkeeper for keeping their lead intact here.
04:13Towards Gomez.
04:14Gomez keeps going.
04:22And just about keeps it in too.
04:24Hecker-Tike can't keep that one down though.
04:27Same two that combined for the opening goal.
04:32Joe Gomez keeping the ball in play by the skin of the leather.
04:37Well, the coating anyway.
04:39Not sure how much pure cowhide is used in footballs these days.
04:42And the refs stop the game.
04:51Joe Gomez needs a little bit of assistance.
04:55Joe Gomez knows all about injuries.
04:58Knows that all too well.
05:02And guess what's going to happen here.
05:04Joe Gomez is going to have to go off.
05:07But coming on, it's Mohamed Salah.
05:09And let's have a listen to the reception that Mohamed Salah gets on as a sub for Liverpool.
05:23And it is 100% resoundingly positive.
05:27There's no sentiment, there's no emotion or feelings from Arna Slott.
05:33It's purely what's best for my team.
05:38Here goes Salah.
05:40Plenty running for him.
05:42McAllister!
05:43Ah, Eketike nearly got there for number two.
05:46Verbruggen there first.
05:52He's on and he's in the game.
05:54Almost making something happen moments after taking the field.
05:58I hear the positive cries of Albion from the visiting seats now.
06:05Van Hecker into the box.
06:06Rute challenges.
06:07Gomez hits it.
06:09And Canate stayed in the way of it.
06:12Rute goes again.
06:13Wirtz.
06:15There's Belieber, but there's a late challenge that will bring Liverpool a free kick.
06:20Florian Wirtz is down and Gomez is down as well.
06:23I think he was the perpetrator.
06:25Good skill from Florian Wirtz.
06:27Keeping his cool, but ooh, dear me.
06:29That is wild from Diego Gomez.
06:32And that is going to be a booking which will rule him out of next weekend's game against Sunderland.
06:40Alisson.
06:42Clears everybody.
06:44Vipa's onto it now though.
06:45But not for long.
06:46Stolen by Eketike.
06:49Eketike wanders through and keeps on going.
06:52Before putting the shot wide.
06:54That would have been some goal.
06:57What about this for sheer determination?
07:06Gruda.
07:07Loads of room on the left for Gomez, but he hasn't looked that way.
07:11Gomez might get onto that though, he did.
07:14And he should have scored.
07:16Brighton might not get a better chance than that.
07:20Played across superbly.
07:22For Diego Gomez.
07:24It's a cracking pass from Mats Vipa.
07:28Couldn't have timed his run onto it any better.
07:30And he didn't get his angles right.
07:35Tell you who would have put that in.
07:37Danny Wilbeck.
07:38Leading English scorer in the Premier League at this point this season.
07:42Gomez.
07:50Ruta battling with Canate.
07:51Gomez is there.
07:53And Gomez finds Gruda.
07:55Gruda.
07:56Liverpool have got to tighten up wide open spaces for Brighton as they attacked on that occasion
08:06lovely cut back from Gomez and then Gruda kept his cool trying to
08:10jink his way into a proper goal scoring position and he very nearly had it
08:14then Hecker, too easily bumped off that by Wietz Eketike, he's past dunk, he's through, he's got Salah with him
08:27and he had McAllister too, now Salah straight at Verbruggen
08:37should have been an easier chance than the one he got look at that position but
08:41I don't think Eketike played the right ball at the right time
08:48Salah will now take the corner and his chanters back in fashion
08:54Salah in Verbruggen, can't get to it
09:002-0 Liverpool, Eketike got to it
09:04barely a flicker from Arna Slott, barely a smile from Ugo Eketike
09:18the freest of three headers
09:23Liverpool now have a position of control
09:26and I just wonder now whether the Seagulls have had their chips
09:33Minter
09:41Van Hecker
09:44there's Wiefa
09:46goal kick
09:47another wild finish from a Brighton player
09:50it's hard to shake the feeling that even if they've played another hour out there
09:54Brighton won't be scoring today
09:56goodness they've created they have had the chances
10:05Salah
10:08Robertson
10:09Chiesa
10:12Salah is charging into the box for Chiesa
10:15Chiesa finds him
10:19we won't get that particular headline
10:28Minter
10:35Minter's cross
10:37Salah
10:39is this it he's got Robertson with him he's got Van Dijk with him would you believe
10:43Salah
10:51should be the other way around somebody playing Salah in to run free on goal
10:55Liverpool 2
10:57Brighton & Hove Albion 0
10:58for me the situation yesterday when I spoke to him and for him being today on the bench and
11:03coming in as the first substitution for me that means that it has settled down but
11:07yeah
11:10if the outside world wants to keep talking about it or there are other reasons why people should
11:14keep talking about it that's that's fine for me but
11:18like I said my conversation yesterday and and the actions of today that I did and that he did
11:23for me that speaks for itself
11:25and now
11:26quiet Saturday evening
11:28and a free week what are you going to do
11:29yeah I would love to say train
11:33but if I just looked in the dressing room I wonder if if we can play five five a side
11:37we deserved definitely more
11:40maybe even a win because we created so many chances we had a bad start in the game you
11:45reacted well but in the end it's about consistency doing it for 90 minutes not only
11:50for for some phases of the game and that's why we lost it
11:53when you play for Liverpool you just have to win games so
11:57hard to answer but
11:59when you see the games coming we are Liverpool we need to win
12:03let's start with him we'll come on to salary in a little while but he he was their star man
12:09today well he's definitely doing something right because even al's impressed
12:14no he's been a breath of fresh air he's been the shining light of the new signings
12:18um you could argue he's been with sabos like probably liverpool's best player this season
12:23in fact the whole team started well there was a great urgency about them
12:27sabos like doing what he does best
12:28uh setting the press jones who was also outstanding stop it trying to stop belieber get the ball and
12:35stop brighton playing because we know that that's how they like to play and it kind of suited liverpool
12:38this is in the first minute of the game look at kirk has the urgency get the ball back in play
12:43let's try and get at them let's try and make a good start because they haven't done that very often
12:47at hanfield and then when the clearance comes out which is a poor one as we know
12:52be first to it win the header be brave and gomez is
12:55and eka tk you know for your first chance in the game that is some finish a confident lad
13:01he plays free i think i i he seems to have complete belief in himself he'll take shots on from
13:06wherever yeah not leaning back a little bit there but just just wanting to score goals and get himself
13:12in good positions and i think this is where he's really good as well and quite unique is because when
13:15he goes deep he's got good technique and good vision and look he can run he's quick and he doesn't
13:21stop here and watch he just pulls out again waiting to create that little space and takes it early
13:26which i really like and he's only a foot or two away from getting his second there and i thought
13:30he grew in the second half and got even better he was getting more confident wanting to be the main man
13:36and make an impact on the game i mean this is terrific skill and power just fluffs the shot a
13:41little bit doesn't quite get the technique right but he deserved everything he got today's work rate was
13:47good off the ball you need that when you play for liverpool again belief in himself to try and that's
13:52from outside the box and with his height and his presence he's going to get plenty ahead as yet it's
13:56poor defending but look at the leap got his just rewards today and as i said before he's been the fans
14:04have taken to him he's been sensational and look these two are going to be compared because they signed in
14:10the same transfer window but he and only are you know his goals a huge reward for liverpool but he's
14:17also more involved the numbers show that he's more involved in everything that they're doing well they're
14:22different types of players but ultimately as a sense of forward you want to be you want to impact in
14:27games scoring goals making goals uh and causing the other team problems and he's doing that on all
14:32these different you look at the goals there and even the winning the ball back as well which for
14:36liverpool is super important that press he he deserves all the credit what do you like about
14:41it seven goals and ten starts uh there's a there's a rawness about him definitely but i love his attitude
14:48i love how keen he is and i love that how he's taken to life to at anfield at liverpool that has been a
14:56really difficult season and there's no doubt he's the one that's that stood out and he i think he plays
15:01with the freedom and he's going to give he's going to give plenty of defenders tough times because
15:06he's strong and he's quick and clearly he can finish in amongst all the noise uh about mo salah what he
15:12actually did today was uh break the premier league record for most goals and assists for a single
15:17club that's that's premier league only what did you see on the pitch before we come to the off the pitch
15:23with um i thought i thought he he did well when he came on i guess it was a bit earlier than um
15:30um then he thought it would be 26 minutes he came on but i i thought he worked really hard i thought
15:36he was involved you couldn't question his attitude uh at all he had one or two opportunities that he
15:42perhaps might have scored on a on another day but that ball should have came into him there with a
15:47better ball and he still gets his shot away decent save from the uh from the keeper you wouldn't expect
15:51him to uh to beat the keeper from from that angle but he as i said he was quick he got into really
15:56good positions this is the big chance that he had good work from uh key is he puts it really on a
16:02plate for him and you'd expect him to uh to score there and right at the end here i mean this is
16:07fantastic here look at the two players who are getting up to support him robertson and van dyke
16:12it's an awful pass that i think it's meant to be if you're a centre-half you don't want that do you
16:18but i i think i think what what is also noticeable it's i don't think it is going to go away as much
16:25as on a slot and liverpool would want it to because after the game on tuesday i think arnold was quoted
16:31saying well is he going to say sorry and it was noticeable today that in his interview afterwards
16:36he didn't actually say well but he said they had a meeting didn't he said they had a meeting so he's
16:40back that and it's settled down so that that doesn't draw a line also settled down because
16:46he's he's away now for uh for the for the afcon as well so it will quiet down but the the quicker
16:53that comes to an end then the questions will start again does it draw a line under it for you no i
16:58agree with al i think that short-term resolution was a surprise to everyone but it makes sense the
17:02more you think about it because the clubs are most important and now it's going to stop for a while
17:06okay uh it was top against bottom at the emirates arsenal face to wolves side already 13 points
17:13from safety with head coach rob edwards warning of more pain to come blimey merry christmas wolves
17:19your commentator jonathan pierce
17:24top at home and in europe at christmas that has to be arsenal's immediate target
17:28wolves objective to avoid unwanted club records and a ninth league defeat in a row
17:33and a 20th top flight game without a victory would bring saliba returns for our stop having missed
17:39four games with an ankle injury four other changes from the champions league win at bruges timber also
17:44fit to return rice recover from illness as a and yoker has picked again they've won their last eight
17:51league games against wolves for the visitors chow gomez returns from suspension wang hi chan replaces
17:57bell guard who was injured in the home defeat by manchester united and with other change matt
18:01authority starts for the first time since october they've won just one of their last 14 away games at arsenal
18:11good atmosphere in the ground
18:13and arsenal have won their last seven at the emirates against teams starting the day in the bottom three
18:20sack up looks like it's only going to be a matter of time to be honest
18:23and it was very nearly there the opening goal timber up from the back coming away from goal awkward that
18:33wolves are to get to 35 36 points which i must think will be the safety mark this season they need
18:41roughly one and a half points a day it's not going to happen is it ben white now
18:46to sack up isolated with totti drawn out from the middle
18:53she's showing the outside and sack has gone beyond him in comes across it's well dealt with in the middle
18:57by andre good positional sense
19:03i was just going to take this throw long 26 minutes gone the emirates
19:08saliba comes to the near post and capier was behind him
19:16he's with mendy back into the middle it's an important header away by mascara and look at this now
19:21on the counter quang hee chan has he got the pace to get away and finish he's certainly got the pace but
19:27raya make sure he doesn't finish and that's the walls game plan encapsulated defend stoutly don't
19:36give arsenal a chance if you can help it and then break and it was nearly a decisive counter attack
19:43now watch ben white here as he's trying to chase back
19:47wans away he can't get the shot beyond the goalkeeper but ben white pulled up for arsenal there
19:52here's lewis skelly to sack up cry shoot goes up from around the ground
20:02a big riot five yards inside the opposition half in a hurry in capier dangerous ball in
20:08touched on i think by a walls player that's a corner came off andre
20:15decent ball in there just got in front of saliva
20:23in comes that corner so dangerous martinelli might have seen it late i can't quite believe
20:29how that's not ended up in the back of the net yeah he saw it late plucky from walls not good
20:35enough for marshal so far
20:40here's saliva
20:41martinelli you can see trossard waited to come on he knows time is short he's taken on tocherty he's
20:57left him behind too much power in lacrosse
21:01the across was waiting at the far post because i think martinelli goes for goal here
21:06he's opened his body up to try and curl it in his eyes are on the far corner not on his teammate coming in
21:19title winners find a way
21:23here's the way clear for us
21:28odegaard away by totti good game for walls
21:32bang over a run oh that's a poor challenge on lewis skelly
21:36he's in trouble here
21:38it's a poor tackle this he's stretching for the ball he's away off it
21:50studs find lewis skelly his foot was quite low but it's been conferred as a yellow the va is telling
21:57the referee that wang tried to pull himself out of the challenge and tried to pull away from the challenge
22:04well that's not my understanding of the replay i've just seen
22:08and capier up to jokeres did well enough trossard out to saka
22:15skips beyond his man plays into jokeres back to goal again was foul as he went to turn by doherty
22:23yellow card offense surely
22:24broke up an arsenal attack here knew exactly what he was doing he knew that there were players out
22:34wide to his left hand side had to stop the ball from getting out wide
22:40declan rice
22:41close very close and a fingertip on it from tam johnson stopped arsenal from taking the lead
22:55in capier for arsenal
22:56two saves in a matter of minutes to deny declan rice
23:11arsenal finally have woken up
23:16two saves in a matter of minutes to deny declan rice
23:22arsenal building up ahead of steam rice
23:24away by totti that makes them go our walls tiring have arsenal began to grind them down
23:33marino
23:34and capier in there jokeres in there as well saliva's tight on the goalkeeper
23:38it's bending in it's got it all the way from the corner the deadlock is finally broken
23:47one of all the ways to break the deadlock i don't think many people could have seen that coming
23:55sweeps in it comes off the back of sam johnson and unfortunate for the walls goalkeeper
24:02it will be an own goal against his neck
24:08zaka's offside here in the lead up to the corner for the goal
24:13it's a corner kick but of course it didn't it didn't result in a goal initially so there can be no var
24:19intervention
24:23trussar with the cross to jokeres took it really well on the half turn does superbly
24:28does superbly that's really terrific center forward play and he deserved better good control
24:36strength rolled his man got the shot off
24:42chat you at switches to his left it's not a bad ball in
24:46still not yet away xiao gomez bear lopez xiao gomez chips to the far side chance to hit the ball there
24:53now matez manu the young man it's in
25:00wolves have equalized what a moment for them
25:08heads in hands from arsenal fans they've given this one away
25:15they went deeper and deeper got more and more anxious couldn't get a boot on the ball arsenal
25:19it's a lovely ball back in by mano the rocadari deflects it in
25:30it's only his third goal since joining the club and it's one of the biggest he'll score in his career
25:361-1
25:37rice
25:46arsenal fans frustrated they want them they want their team to get on with it saka gets the cross in
25:52it's in
25:56it may even go down as another own goal this
26:02it may well have come off mosquera
26:07jesus with the run
26:12oh it's come off mosquera it's a known goal
26:16well what an end to the game certainly couldn't see this happening arsenal 2
26:22wolverhampton wonder as well
26:29how's your luck
26:30yeah it's not great is it jonathan at the moment um look the lads gave everything tonight
26:37we're flat though we lost the bottom line we lost another game of football after scoring the goal
26:40we had a period of two minutes that we went deep suddenly and it's very passive we are going to
26:46close the wall and conceded a very poor goal and at the end yeah we pushed we found a way to to score
26:51the goal with the connection between gabby and and bukayo and obviously delighted because at the end
26:57that's what we wanted the plan did work the lads carried it out really well you know we were very
27:00disciplined we obviously can't open up here you know it'd be asking for trouble so we were a lot
27:05more compact than we were on monday different game different opposition it was the right way to go
27:09lads worked hard on it they believed in it and um we had to wait for our moments and um
27:15to show the courage to get back in after going one nil down we we started pushing we pressed we made
27:19changes got back into it but then the stuff i was speaking about before again this this this is why
27:25we are where we are we've got a value stopping across we've got to defend the goal and um we're not
27:30doing that well enough we're not it's hard not to feel for him and football can be cruel or joyous
27:36depending on which side of the coin you're on and in fact up until the last five minutes of that game
27:41it was going last yes so so what do you uh what do you make of arsenal's performance really well
27:48first of all i have to say how brilliant wolves were and how hard and difficult and they frustrated
27:54arsenal for long periods of the game and arsenal didn't play well at all there was a nerve in it
27:59nervous about that they were edgy um and but ultimately what they did i thought really well arsenal
28:06was what they've done really well in in games this season also is crosses that was the one constant
28:12in the game today that particularly down the right hand side with uh with this guy and what what is
28:18impressive also is how many numbers they actually get in the box you got tim up there that ball goes in
28:24there he comes inside left foot very good cross one v one on the right hand side he goes again you know
28:33what you know what you can do very difficult to mark he goes on the on the outside this time but
28:37same thing again you've got bodies in the box this time it's rice that's getting on the on the end of
28:42it but constantly they're putting balls into the box and asking questions of the defense and i don't
28:48care who you're playing against it's tough to do that's it that's an unbelievable cross and deserve
28:54to be in the in the back of the net we kept on doing it 30 crosses they got in the box today
29:00second in uh in the in games that is 32 they had against manchester city and there's no doubt that
29:06i'm seeing that more crosses not only from arsenal but from from teams are coming into the box last
29:11season and in particular this season and ultimately when you keep on putting balls into the box that's
29:17what's won them the game today whether they played well or not you can discuss who was good who was not
29:22but that was the impressive thing about them is how many times they kept going into those positions
29:27and getting them in there and still people trying to get on the end of it look it was another set
29:32piece that broke the deadlock here and there's a bit of noise as well about soccer and offside in
29:38the build-up to this which we will clear up in a minute down yeah here it is i mean you can tell
29:42he's in an offside position there from you know the first look and most of us watching it think oh he
29:47could be offside and then when it actually goes he clears it out for corner we'll go through the rules
29:52i mean it's not offside they get the corner we know how good they are it's actually not his best
29:57ball in the world keeper should deal with it and he doesn't but the amount of pressure they constantly
30:02put on goalkeepers time and time again it's no no wonder they make mistakes but he'll be disappointed
30:06with that and they get the look as well bounces off the post on the back of him and that was that's
30:11where we thought the game was done okay so so here's the reason why and we've checked with pj mol here
30:17why he wouldn't have been given offside here because bakayo saka didn't do any of these four
30:22things he didn't affect his opponent's line of vision he didn't challenge the opponent for the
30:27ball he didn't attempt to play the ball he just dropped off didn't he and he didn't do anything
30:34that impacted the ability of the opponent to play the ball so when you look at it like that in black
30:41and white that is why he wasn't given offside yeah and you have to accept that decision you know
30:45that's something we've seen now for a long time yeah obviously if he'd have gone in and scored
30:49with yeah he'd have been off so yeah right decision well done well yeah refs all of them whoever they
30:58are all of all of the officials five games is sunday's match of the day
31:11beautiful
31:15brilliant
31:17what a precious goal
31:21what a finish

31:50now david moyse was playing for preston with david beckham yes you heard that correctly younger
31:56viewers the last time everton won a league game at chelsea said that was the 94 95 season steve wilson
32:04was at stanford bridge none of chelsea's first team squad were even alive back in november 94
32:12they are a youthful mix of exuberance and at times naivety no one in four and out of the top four
32:19colpal palmer starts for chelsea his groin continues to be a problem which needs careful
32:25managing caicedo serves the last game of his band and with the lap injured joao pedro leads their line
32:32ken and jewsbury hall returns to chelsea his reputation enhanced since leaving for everton he's scored three
32:38in his last four and has been nothing short of excellent idris again returns after suspension
32:44colos alcaraz drops out and if everton were to win here then they'd be fourth in the table
32:49pedro netto trying to give garnacho something to work with
33:03everton fans who are right behind that advertising hoarding rather enjoyed that miscontrol
33:11jewsbury hall here
33:14well this could potentially be a real problem for everton jewsbury hall has
33:18in many ways been the pick of their bunch this season and this doesn't look good
33:24so that's it for jewsbury hall didn't last long and he's getting a warm ovation
33:29from the supporters of both clubs which is nice carlos alcaraz is coming on
33:34that's a good ball
33:46back in the group cole palmer
33:53well that's the kind of football you expect from chelsea that's the kind of football
34:00and finish you expect from cole palmer makes such a good run there is beautifully found
34:06and the outcome was really never in doubt
34:12gustos pass and to see cole palmer doing that again is very good news for the shed end of stanford bridge
34:20that's a good turn
34:30garnacho
34:31and that's just over the angle of post and bar
34:36pickford is not happy with those in front of him o'brien at least did enough to make the angle a bit more difficult
34:44and everton that looked pretty comfortable for 20 minutes
34:54and that's not a great ball and garnacho is there and he's missed it
35:01well alcaraz has his hand raised in apology as well he might can't really believe garnacho's missed that
35:09but chelsea haven't won in a game in which cole palmer has scored so far this season
35:19o'brien to idrissa garner gay
35:24o'brien again idrissa garner gay again this is good football by everton
35:28greelich wants it back post it went straight through tiano barry
35:33well tiano barry knows what a good opportunity this was to be fair sanchez has got a touch on that
35:38and that little touch might have been crucial
35:46augusto's error grealish here for everton jack greelish ghosting through and sanchez made the save
35:55well this was the opportunity jack greelish ghosting through a couple of defenders but unable to beat sanchez
36:01good stuff for chelsea
36:10pedro netto outside of michelenko's done really well
36:14he's arguably been chelsea's liveliest player today malo gusto and in stoppage time at the end of the
36:23first half he tucks them into a two goal lead well it's a lovely counter-attacking goal this
36:31just so carried it delivered it
36:38and it went return to sender everton will be so frustrated because they've had the chances to
36:46level this game but right at the end of the first half chelsea double their lead
36:51well it's a great ball by robert sanchez and alejandro garnacho got the run
37:13on everton's jake o'brien here and he's missed by a lot in the end
37:22thomas tuchel has decisions to make about who plays
37:26in the number 10 role for england has a few contenders one of whom has scored here today
37:31here's njai
37:38o'brien decent and the header from greelish tipped over
37:44not sure it was goal bound but sanchez definitely got something on it
37:49don't know how many headed goals jack greelish has scored in his career but this is a good header
37:53alcaraz with pace greelish wide
38:04well that is the chance that everton have been working for
38:10this game has not been a master class in finishing you would have to say
38:13here's mark cuccarella reese james and that's a free kick to chelsea
38:27pedro netto will fancy this reese james is over it too
38:32a dramatic pause
38:38oh well hit
38:44good free kick this from reese james
38:51dibling through to alcaraz
38:55iliman and jai good feet oh really unlucky
38:59really good play by iliman and jai
39:05who is such a talent in a match of plentiful missed opportunities
39:13everton come off worse at the bridge again chelsea 2
39:16everton nil
39:19losing kieran was out was a blow to us but uh i thought we adapted quite well i know we've i know
39:24we've come away with a disappointing result but it certainly wasn't a disappointing performance
39:28we've done a lot of really good things today and and maybe maybe played one of our best games away
39:34from home and we've had some very good results away from home but we couldn't finish it off
39:38i wouldn't say i'm not my best yet you know obviously i've dealt with i'm still dealing with
39:42um i need risk so hopefully it gets better and better but still got a bit to go i know what i can
39:50offer when i'm fully fit so hopefully i'll get there soon we're very used now to seeing fullbacks
39:56playing inverted midfield positions pep started doing that a long time ago never with two huh
40:00no exactly you've got reese james and malo gusto in there yeah yeah no they are both good players
40:05and when they are good players for me they can play in any position and he took his goal very well
40:10as well didn't he yeah yeah i took the chance the assist for for called the first goal so very happy
40:15for for malo well he was smiling with steve there but then mareska went into his press conference
40:22and said this the last 48 hours has been the worst 48 hours since i joined the club because many
40:33people didn't support us what do you mean in terms of the not people supporting you in the last 48 hours
40:42worst 48 hours since i joined the club because people didn't support
40:46me and the team in general in general peter i love the fans and we are very happy with the fans
40:57well we'll get on to that in excuse me in just a moment but that was you i know yeah come on come
41:05on all emotional um what what um what did you it was a big win for chelsea that it was a huge win
41:12after recent results um not one in three a little bit of discontent around for some reason because i
41:19think there's lots of positives for chelsea at the moment there has been a few hiccups but
41:22yeah a bit a big result and um the the star of the show was probably not someone we'd have predicted
41:28in gusto what an amazing performance now we've seen him play occasionally in midfield um normally
41:34a right back and then drifting into these positions i mean this is a wonderful pass palmer dictating
41:40where he wants great to see him back for anybody that loves watching football and it's perfect pace
41:46good vision we've talked about reese james many times and how wonderful he is in terms of his
41:52technical ability and passing range but gusto's got a lot of that too they're actually blessed
41:56with two players who can both play right back and both play midfield i mean he's hitting diagonals with
42:00his left foot there from the middle of the pitch incredible array of uh passes he's capable of
42:06and then of course when he is in his more orthodox fullback position he's willing to get forward with
42:12the ball travel with the ball and then more importantly not admire his passing get into dangerous areas we see
42:18him in dangerous areas very often every time we watch chelsea play and again talk about weak foot finish
42:25terrific so he's got a bit of a problem really the manager and james and him do they swap or do
42:29they just let them freely swap when they play and and work it out which is fine from two intelligent
42:35players getting in front of grealish there and again making the right pass releasing xao pedro to
42:41nearly get them another goal so yeah that's great options to have isn't it great options very good and
42:45the great thing as well is he can defend one-on-one he's decent with his defensive work so he then goes
42:52into that press conference mareska so he says at last 48 hours many people don't support us he was
42:58pushed about whether he meant the fans he said no i don't have a problem with the fans they mentioned
43:01the media can't believe he's really that bothered what the media say or don't say about him that has
43:06to be directed internally well doesn't it he wants us and others to talk about that we wouldn't have
43:11mentioned this at all if he had well it wouldn't even it wouldn't have even crossed our radar there's no
43:15doubt about that he um he's directing that at the board of the owners and i my guess is is that he
43:22doesn't feel as if he's getting the protection after a defeat like they had in in midweek and obviously
43:28that hurts him but chelsea's a very different football club now to what it was 20 15 years ago
43:35in terms of who they buy the players they want to develop young players and it is difficult to compete
43:41with the very best when you're doing that because it does take time to to to bed younger players in
43:46and and develop them um but on the in the big picture with chelsea i think he's doing a good job
43:53well the bit the big pitch where you look at what the points are that they have gained under him
43:59you know he he bet that's 13 behind liverpool you know the only liverpool arsenal manchester city ahead
44:05of them it do you think he's saying well you know bearing in mind what this business model is young
44:10players and we sign them on long-term contracts but maybe slightly lower wages and then we try and sell
44:14them on for a profit some of them what more do you expect me to do do you think that's what he's saying
44:19yeah i do more or less and i agree with that uh but he's got to be careful i think you have to
44:26realize the with the owners you're working for in the club you're working for he's been he's been
44:29given an amazing opportunity to manage a massive football club after only managing leicester so
44:37did he did he expect to gain control because he won the conference league you know let's put it in
44:42perspective he's got to be careful he starts talking he also won the club world cup and and well yeah but
44:47yeah you can you can pull that face but they they beat paris saint-germain in the final and it
44:53it's a tournament that they value he's done well there's no doubt i'm not doubting he hasn't done
44:58well what i'm saying is that football is ruthless and these are these are multi-billionaire owners
45:05and if they feel that their manager is talking directly to them through the press it's not going
45:09to end well for him he's got a wonderful opportunity to have success with chelsea maybe just pick your
45:14moments to be quiet okay that works it's tv i don't know the big thing is as we said if if he
45:23hadn't have gone into his press conference and brought this up none of this would have been
45:27mentioned so he clearly wants do you think he gets the least credit out of that you know when we showed
45:31that list there so so arteta and slot and guardiola and even emery and how do you think he gets less
45:38credit than those i think danny's right in what he says in terms of he's come from leicester now he's
45:43at chelsea um so yeah i think so yeah i don't see an issue with that okay uh now match of the day
45:49didn't exist the last time fulham won at burnley 1951 bob thomas scored twice steve bowers at turf
45:5774 years since their last success here and just four away points all season for fulham who will sense
46:07an opportunity to move further away from the teams below them burnley are one of them as scott parker
46:14faces the club he served both as a player and a manager he's without both kyle walker and lucas perez
46:20through suspension so tranzebi and hartman come in top scorer fleming is on the bench
46:26fulham make just one change as they welcome back anthony robinson into the premier league fold
46:31for the first time since late september castagna is a substitute smith rowe makes his 50th
46:38premier league appearance for the club
46:44forward from anderson iwobi trying to flick that into the path of chuck ways it
46:48jimenez is onto the second ball robinson's cross off foster for the first corner of the game for fulham
46:56more positive from the visitors
47:01apparently have everybody back harry wilson to deliver went for the one at the near post
47:07and it found its way through of emil smith row and inside nine minutes
47:14fulham are in front i think it was hartman at the near post who should have dealt with this
47:21oh it is it's awful from hartman burnley will be bitterly disappointed with the way they've conceded
47:28that opening goal smith rowe ran unopposed into the six yard box only arsenal have now scored more goals
47:37from corners this season than fulham
47:43is there an instant reaction from the home team there might be
47:48you got chuck were denied
47:52plant leno was alive to the situation here as the uga chucku was in his own bit of space
48:00and he managed fulham 105 times he played for them 128 times but no affiliation for the next 90 minutes
48:14for the last
48:15cunnan has options
48:20who got trouble who's won
48:22and burnley are level
48:28his third goal of the season
48:31lovely move
48:33and a much needed equalizer
48:37excellent first touch and the second one nice and cool into the back of the net
48:43just the 16th goal burnley have scored all season
48:46it's a most welcome one
48:48to get them back level
48:50inside 22 minutes burnley one full and one
48:56his frustration
48:58is clear when he sees that equalizer back
49:03well smith rowe might get to that he did
49:05and esteve had to put it behind
49:08well in fairness when bassey played that ball
49:10the smith rowe looks second favorite
49:13eddow slightly misjudged this
49:16credit smith row
49:21floated in by wilson
49:25out as far as robinson that's aimed back towards harry wilson lovely take
49:29oh and it's sat up beautifully
49:33and calvin bassey couldn't miss
49:37and burnley again
49:40have gifted another goal
49:43bassy's third premier league strike for fulham
49:47i mean it's a lovely take here from harry wilson
49:51but watch bassy
49:52totally unopposed
49:55and there are five burnley players
49:59inside the six-yard box when this cross comes in
50:03and none of them close enough
50:05to the eventual goal scorer
50:08burnley one
50:09fulham two
50:12valentino
50:14to pick out broyer
50:17well jocky madderson knows what's coming next
50:19we took one for the team
50:27nothing subtle about that
50:29first yellow card of the game
50:38brilliant from leno
50:39who gets a query on the follow-up
50:43well fulham were almost caught cold there
50:45burger at the other end into wilson
50:49hartmann's chasing him harry wilson hartmann did well
50:54and burnley survived
50:57really quick thinking
50:58broyer onside leno did fantastically well as did bassy
51:03to block the follow-up shot from uga truck work
51:06and here hartmann did just enough there right at the end
51:12to block that effort from harry wilson
51:15the chairman
51:19and manager
51:21hoping to avoid an unwanted
51:23record today if burnley lose again
51:26seven top flight league defeats in a row
51:30with their worst run for 130 years
51:34all smith row
51:36is saved by leno
51:38because brun larsen
51:41was denied
51:42and emil smith row will be the most relieved man
51:47inside turf moore
51:48and last and unable to profit
51:56and burnley for the second time today search for an equalizer
52:01twanzaby looking for cullen
52:03well they managed to use that well burnley
52:11michael oliver unmoved
52:12and it's the same player that goes on at the other end here for fulham
52:23he's got a man and mark the chivalry
52:26well that was extraordinary at both ends because calvin bassy
52:32made a talent that is still being checked by tony harrington here
52:37in var
52:40on amando breuer
52:42that's been checked and cleared
52:44well what was emil smith rowe thinking here but credit again to burt leno so quickly off his line
52:52he was right on top of brun larsen
52:56next goal in this game is absolutely huge
53:01burger
53:03and again that left-hand side looks particularly potent here for fulham
53:07chuck wasi with robinson on the overlap
53:10chuck wasi instead trying to find harry wilson
53:12clinical from the wilson international the top scorer with another four in seven games for him
53:24but watch robinson supporting chuck wasi he made the decoy run
53:30and then chuck wasi'd seen wilson and that's a finish of a man full of confidence guided that
53:38into the bottom corner and that's a huge challenge for burnley to come back from here
53:46smith row out to robinson chuckweze on the move he stayed on side chuckweze's pulled back
53:55wilson nipped in robinson
53:57well in his 140th premier league game he's never scored a premier league goal
54:06and a touch more composure there and that might have been it
54:09treasure
54:17now anthony
54:18basi got an important touch
54:24so too did oliver son
54:30lovely take on the chest and a very cool side footed finish from the peru international
54:36and the substitute has reduced it to three two fabulous control and the cushion finish
54:46leno didn't move
54:49your goal in the end has been the difference i mean this run you're on at the moment that's four in seven
54:54games um assists galore as well another two today you must be delighted with that yeah i feel really good
54:59at the minute i said as an attacking player it's always good when your numbers are good and yeah
55:03it's nice nice to get a couple of assists today especially the first one because that's something
55:06we've worked we've worked on this week and when you when you see the work that you're putting on
55:09the training ground coming up on a saturday uh it's a great feeling marco well done how big a
55:13win is that away from home for you today yes big one big one um difficult place to come big win for us
55:21yesterday when i was questioned by 75 years without the win here i have to say with massive respect of
55:27course with burn and all that stuff we spoke about it as to be tonight that we have to break that
55:32record we did it that's hope our fans they go home and we just smile in their face that they deserve
55:37and of course congratulations to the players i've stood in front of you guys for for the first 16 or
55:4215 games wherever it's been saying the same message really so in this division you you can't afford to
55:48give up goals like we're giving up goals we were hugely competitive today i thought we had real quality
55:53about us we have numerous chances but you give yourself an absolute mountain to climb anyone
56:00watching our game today for the first time you could watch back the the first 15 odd games and
56:05it would be the same cycle really and we need to we need to fix that mate for sure they do don't they
56:11i mean they were so defensively strong in the championship last season but fulham really exploited their
56:16problems this season yeah fulham and in particular harry wilson i thought was brilliant
56:20played a major part in what fulham did today but i mean honestly this defending here is
56:26is is amateurish and that's being polite i mean you look at ectile hartman and foster
56:31look at the mistakes that they're doing smithrow is originally there and ectile's meant to be picking
56:37him up foster's meant to be the knee post doing his job as is hartman that ball cannot get past them
56:44there but look at ectile i mean he doesn't even stop him at all look he just like runs past him
56:49no blocking no effort to get near him tete then nudges foster off the ball is this is so easy hartman
56:56doesn't clear it that's his job at the near post i mean there's so many errors there must be driving
57:02scott absolutely crazy just look at it here where smithrow is and and have a look at his lack of
57:09effort to stop him watch him seriously is that the best that you can give or do as a professional when
57:16you're meant to be staying with your player and that's why they're conceding goals because it
57:21doesn't really matter enough and then all of a sudden it's criticized them um again on here two in
57:27zaby you've he can see where bassy is there behind him he knows where he is he doesn't even jump and he
57:34just shoves him off the ball because bassy wants it more than he does look at that get off you're not
57:40having that ball and that's the reason they're conceding the goals and again you have a look at
57:46you have a look at the place here is is there enough effort to get back to here
57:51i'm not quite sure there is i thought you were waiting for one of us to answer that
57:57the answer is not because it's free there and there's not enough effort to try and track harry
58:02wilson at all that is a great finish and he played a huge part in that and he's brilliant to do harry
58:07wilson but the defendant from burnley at times goodness me dreadful they do have a lot they do
58:13have a lot of attacking options out of fulham don't they i mean they're terrible numbers for
58:17for burnley but fulham do have attacking options they do but they've actually not converted a lot
58:21of the chances they've made recently um jimenez hasn't scored many and and munoz is injured of
58:26course the key for fulham now moving forward is to try and get marco silver tied down and that's
58:31going to be you know we'll have to wait and see on that probably till january and they've never signed a
58:36midfielder from liverpool who's made such an impact as harry wilson has uh arsenal made hard
58:42work i've got to move on danny shush let's show you the league table arsenal made hard work of it
58:46but they're five points clear after their win over wolves chelsea have moved back into the top four
58:50liverpool now up to sixth everton and brighton dropped to eighth and ninth respectively wolves
58:56remain eight points adrift at the foot of the table burnley also lost so they're still five from
59:01safety uh fulham's win has moved them towards mid-table security uh that's it thanks to danny
59:07and alan won't be any consolation to wolves fans but the fact that the winner went down as an own goal
59:12has saved us from a terrible jesus christmas farewell link goodbye
59:27so
59:39you
