Cancer Research UK chief executive Michelle Mitchell praised King Charles for speaking openly about his experience with cancer, saying his message has given “strength and encouragement” to others facing similar diagnoses. Mitchell also said decades of research have helped double cancer survival rates over the past 50 years, describing progress against the disease as “a story of hope”, as she urged people to attend screenings.

00:00I'm not surprised how open the King has been. I think he's spoken compassionately and wanted to share his experience with others, but also he's taken great strength from the messages he's received from hundreds of thousands of people who were going through a similar experience and journey to him.
00:23And I think it's given people strength, encouragement, and it's wonderful to hear this evening the focus on ensuring that people get up to date with their screening checks and also the importance of early diagnosis of cancer fuelled by decades now of research and innovation.
00:45We've seen a doubling of cancer survival over the last 50 years, so it's a story of hope and progress.
