03:33So, anyway, speaking of potential wrestling returns, Ric Flair, what year is it?
03:40This new story broke over the weekend.
03:42I believe it was covered by either Phil and Gareth or Phil and Gareth and Andrew Pollard,
03:47who does our news on the Sunday, regarding him potentially returning to the wrestling ring.
03:51There was speculation a while back when there was him training in a ring with Jay Lethal.
03:55It seemingly was confirmed over the weekend with him potentially tagging with FTR.
04:03A lot against the Rock and Roll Express and a partner, to be confirmed.
04:06This was all reported on Wrestling Observer Radio.
04:09This despite those obvious health issues we've reported on a lot in the past.
04:12Kidney failure that almost led to his death in August 2017.
04:17But now, former WCW announcer Chris Cruz has written to the Maryland State Athletic Commission,
04:24urging them not to sanction Ric Flair's comeback.
04:27He talked about it on a lengthy post on Facebook, citing Flair's ill health, alcohol problems,
04:33and age as the reasons he objects to him wrestling again.
04:37I think I know the answer to this question, but I'm going to ask it anyway, Andy.
04:41How do you feel about a Ric Flair return to the wrestling ring?
04:43Yeah.
04:46It's obviously something I never need to see, right?
04:48Like, that's...
04:50The guy's 73 years old.
04:52It was one of the most perfect retirement angles I think they ever did.
04:55Yeah, and then he came back in part, like, uh...

05:00Yeah, I mean, it kind of goes without saying that I don't want to see it.
05:04Um, the problem with all of this is that wrestling is a carny business,

05:14And that's kind of sick, because I think the people putting on these matches do have a duty of care.
05:18That's what the Athletic Commission should be there for, yeah.
05:21Yeah, that's for sure.
05:22But the problem is, like, not every state is...
05:24Like, wrestling is not regulated in every state by an Athletic Commission.
05:29And some carny goober guy who promotes...
05:32Yeah, a promoter looking to make a QuickBook is going to go, like, oh, yeah.

05:36It's not my risk.
05:37So if Ric Flair wants to do it, he'll be able to do it somewhere, is the thing.

05:47eh, do this with your body, don't do this, blah, blah, blah.
05:49I don't like to play, like, police people's careers in that regard.
05:52But there are obviously extreme circumstances with Ric Flair and his health,
05:57and I would not put it this way.
05:59I personally would not be comfortable supporting any kind of comeback
06:02unless he's been given the most rigorous medical checks of all time.

06:06Which I'm dubious as to whether or not he'd pass them.
06:08So, yeah.
06:09We all wanted to see Daniel Bryan, Bryan Danielson, back in the wrestling ring,
06:12but I doubt if they'd have said, you know,
06:14prior to them saying, oh, these doctors are cleared in,
06:17we wouldn't be like, ah, yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine.
06:18Don't worry about it.

06:21Ultimately, yeah, ultimately, it's got to come down to medical professionals, doesn't it?
06:24Like, not just, like, internet people like us.
06:27Yeah, and, you know, fair play to Chris, you know, pointing, you know,
06:30he's just, he's worried about a former, you know, colleague, a friend,
06:35you know, wrestling legend.
06:36I know, you know, we've got all the stuff that happened outside of the ring
06:39that is a completely separate conversation.
06:41Regardless, this is an old guy risking it all for what?

06:47I'm sure, you know, you always have that buzz.
06:50You always want to return to the wrestling ring,
06:51but sometimes that decision's got to be taken out of your hands.

07:08but Fightful Select, as usual,
07:10cutting right through all the nonsense
07:12with a new report and some updates on this situation.

07:33to MGF in that regard.
07:35He hasn't yet addressed them,
07:36but there we go.
07:38No formal discussions as of yet,
07:40it seems,
07:40or no reports or word
07:41of formal discussions,
07:42as should be said.
07:43But yeah,
07:44as we reported the other week,
07:46the other day, actually, really,
07:48MGF is still a bit frustrated about his pay.
07:50Came in on a lower deal.
07:51Loads of people have come in
07:52who want more.
07:53He's now one of the top guys
07:54in the company.
07:55What's more,
07:56understandable on his behalf.
07:58It is stated here
07:59that one talent has told Fightful
08:02that while Tony Khan keeps these details
08:04kind of close to the vest,
08:05understandably,
08:07TK, the AEW president,
08:09would be willing to open up
08:10the checkbook
08:11and pay MGF comparable
08:12to other top stars in the company,
08:14although that would almost, like,
08:17certainly require some form of extension
08:19rather than renegotiation.
08:20Yeah, fair.
08:21Now,
08:21some other contracts in AEW
08:24have been reworked in that way
08:25in the past,
08:26so it's not completely off the table.
08:28On MGF's side,
08:30he's not trying to boost his pay
08:32without an extension
08:33because he understands
08:34that that's not how it works.
08:36Yeah, we have yes.
08:37And this comes without confirmation
08:40from AEW,
08:41but AEW doesn't comment publicly
08:43on matters of this nature.
08:45Now, as far as the backstage reaction goes,
08:48there are people within AEW
08:49who feel that MGF
08:50is performing at a level
08:51above his current contract
08:53and above his current pay grade,
08:55while others believe
08:56that reconfiguring a deal
08:57before it expires
08:58might set a dangerous precedent
09:00despite the reworkings
09:01we mentioned earlier on.
09:03So, yeah,
09:03this situation continues
09:04to rumble on and on and on.
09:06And personally,
09:07I'd be quite surprised
09:08if we saw a resolution
09:10to this in 2022,
09:11unless TK comes along
09:13and goes,
09:14here's an offer you can't refuse
09:15and MGF goes,
09:15fair play.
09:17I think that this guy's
09:18going to wait a while
09:19until WWE can come in
09:20with an offer,
09:21which would be early 2024
09:23when his contract expires.
09:24So the situation continues,
09:26but we'll see how it plays out.
09:28Some new information here.
09:29Yeah, really interesting this.
09:31Pay the guy,
09:32he deserves it,
09:33but also I get that
09:34they also try
09:35to bounce the books
09:36with new TV deals
09:37at the end of this year.
09:38So we may not find out
09:39any more about it
09:40until then,

09:41even into 2024
09:42when MGF's contract expires.
09:44But it's going to be
09:45one of the biggest stars
09:46in wrestling,
09:46if it isn't already that,
09:48in the next few years.
09:50And WWE,
09:51understandably,
09:52despite the fact
09:53that they probably
09:53wouldn't know
09:54what to do with him
09:54or try and do
09:56a scripted version
09:57of that, basically,
09:58might not work.
10:00But WWE got any sense?
10:02He's one of the biggest
10:03potential worldwide stars
10:05in wrestling.
10:08So yeah,
10:08why wouldn't they
10:08want to get him?
10:09So AEW should try
10:10and tie him down
10:11and pay him what he deserves
10:12to earn.
10:13But like you say,
10:14it's going to be very interesting
10:14to see how this rolls on.

10:18has talked on the AEW
10:19Unrestricted Podcast
10:21about reprising
10:22his Willow character
10:24in AEW.
10:25Should have brought in
10:26an umbrella
10:26that we could throw.

10:32chatting to Aubrey Edwards
10:32and Tony Schiavone,
10:33that reintroducing
10:35the character
10:35wouldn't involve
