Luke Littler kicks off world title defence with comfortable win

Luke Littler returned to the scene of his greatest moment in style as he eased through the opening round at the World Championship.Littler created history in January when he became the youngest world champion, reigning supreme on the Alexandra Palace stage as a 17-year-old.He has set his sights on becoming the first man to defend his title since Gary Anderson in 2016 and got off to a winning start against Darius Labanauskas.

00:05Yeah, I'm very happy with the performance.

00:08Definitely didn't feel like a 1.01 and a half,

00:14Yeah, it felt very special, like I said, leading up to this tournament.

00:20This is my first ever PDC tournament, so it holds a lot of memories here.

00:29Yeah, I mean, leading up to it, even when I woke up this morning, I was excited.

00:33I knew I was getting back on stage in front of the fans,

00:36so I didn't put too much pressure on myself and my performance shows.

00:41Yeah, I mean, coming into the match, I weren't bothered if I made a statement or what.

00:44I just wanted to get past the first round.

00:46And like I said, the performance definitely didn't feel like it,

00:50but I'll take all the positives.
