00:00Hello and welcome to this national James weather update for Friday. There's a lot of activity in Queensland, not in the far southeast, in eastern New South Wales and coming into eastern Victoria today.
00:11There's another cloud band that's in through here that is going to move eastwards as we move into the weekend. There is heat building here and also coming into the southeast as well.
00:21So let's have a look at some warnings that we have there for today.
00:24So I've got a little bit of marine in the southeast, but having a look at our extreme fire danger here in South Australia and also over in the west.
00:31Here's the heat wave areas, so in the west and also in these parts of western Queensland and northwestern parts of New South Wales.
00:38So that's what I've got today. We've also got some heavy rain that is falling in through here.
00:42So let's just have a quick look at that one. We'll just pop our radar on. There it is.
00:47We've got all of that that is falling in through the Sydney area this morning, and that's going to keep on going as the day goes on.
00:53So here is the rain pattern for Friday. We've got all of this through eastern parts of New South Wales.
00:59These parts of Queensland, but not really into the southeast. That's coming in the days ahead.
01:03It does move into Victoria here. Otherwise, showers and thunderstorms, they are inland.
01:08They are inland from here, so it's not over on the west coast and not right down on the south there, thanks to this ridge that is coming through.
01:14OK, so that's for Friday. Let's now have a look at Saturday.
01:17The trough moves eastwards. There it is by the end of the day.
01:20So showers and thunderstorms anywhere to the east of that.
01:23It's going to slowly cross Victoria and western parts of New South Wales.
01:27So there's our area for showers and thunderstorms, the risk zone there for tomorrow.
01:32Heading into Saturday as we move into the west, not down right into the southwest corner.
01:36We've got a ridge in through here. We've got a trough that's running right on the coast.
01:40So the heat is definitely there. Let's have a look day by day what to expect from that.
01:43So into Saturday, there's our heat wave and there's our heat wave in through there.
01:48Into Sunday, it is very pronounced in the southwest.
01:51Into Monday, that does start to move inland as that trough goes in.
01:55So have a look at that. Here we have Saturday moving across the southeast there.
02:00Into Sunday, here's a little bit of a cool outbreak.
02:02I'm not going to say cold, but it's a cool one.
02:04There is snow in Tasmania though.
02:06So that's moving across.
02:07This is contracting northwards as the day goes on,
02:10but that means we start firing in southeast Queensland from Sunday onwards.
02:14Over in the west, we've got this moving right down into the southwest corner,
02:17plus the heat that comes with it because the trough is offshore.
02:21Having a look at Monday, that trough starts to move inland.
02:24So the heat is contracted along with that.
02:26So a hot day and then a cool change.
02:29This is contracted into the southeastern parts of Queensland.
02:32And just for the coast there,
02:33there are some light showers that are moving across the southeast.
02:36This here is a very typical summer pattern.
02:38We've got the horseshoe of wet weather across both sides of the country,
02:42high pressure in the middle.
02:43We're going to have the heat to the western side of that high pressure system
02:48and the cooler air out to the east.
02:50That disappears as we're going to Tuesday.
02:52So by the end of Tuesday, high pressure has now moved out to the Tasman Sea.
02:56That means all of the heat can come down into the southeast from Wednesday onwards.
03:00Here's our storm activity for Tuesday.
03:02And over in the west, there is the change that has moved inland.
03:05So we're now on the cooler side over in the southwest corner.
03:09Okay, so that's Tuesday.
03:10Have a look at Wednesday.
03:11Here's where our showers and summer storms are.
03:14High out to the east, heat right into the southeast.
03:17There's our showers and storms coming down into the west as well,
03:19but not at that southwest coast where it is milder.
03:22Have a look at Thursday.
03:24Here's our pattern here.
03:25And downing through there, heat in the southeast.
03:28And into Friday, heat in the southeast.
03:30We might get some wet weather come down with that one.
03:33This one here might be something to watch too as we move through about a week's time from now.
03:38Okay, so what might all of that add up to?
03:40We've got a horseshoe pattern that is in through here.
03:43If you are under a shower or thunderstorm, yes, it's going to add up to a heavier fall.
03:47But generally, it's in through these parts here and not around the middle.
03:51The high-pressure system moves out to the east, so that clears the wet weather from the southeast
03:56until the next load can come back about next Friday.
03:59As always, head to the far more long weather for the last.
