00:00if you look at it from a distance it looks like i'm just hanging out with pigeons but i'm not
00:10just hanging out with them i'm actually there to help them a lot of people don't know this
00:14but pigeons commonly get something called string foot string foot is where pigeons get tangled up
00:21in hair or string and it gets tangled up on their feet and it tightens and it can
00:26cut the circulation off to their toes or their entire foot the reason why pigeons suffer with
00:32string foot is because they were a domesticated species we abandoned them and they rely on humans
00:39to survive so they're forced to live in these big cities with us that's covered in litter and it
00:45just gets tangled in their feet it's a man-made issue and you wouldn't even notice it unless you
00:50the time to have a look he's in suck jail
00:54come on bro it's all right
01:01he's ready to go
01:06they're actually quite easy to catch i slowly approach them and sprinkle the seed
01:15above them and then once you're just close enough you grab them pigeons when they escape
01:20they just fly up so if you're already right above them they can't really go anywhere
01:35once i catch the pigeon i put them in what i like to call sock jail which makes it so that they don't
01:40squirm around and it's easier for me to remove the string off their feet
01:51sometimes i also use a rag to cover their face as well
01:55they just go completely calm and they just accept it
01:58and then they're still and i'm able to remove the string
02:02sometimes it's really simple the string hasn't caused any damage yet so it just takes a second
02:07you just cut it off and let them go sometimes it's starting to cut into the skin those are the
02:13ones that take a little bit longer after i've cut the string off it's time to let them go back out
02:19into the wild not always there just for string foot i genuinely really love spending time with them
02:32and sitting with them i find it really therapeutic
02:38people always say i'm like the pigeon lady from home alone too and it's a compliment as well
02:43they're just really cute obviously but they're kind of underdogs you know there aren't people
02:50looking out for them the same way that there are people looking out for dogs and cats for example
02:55right like people just overlook them if there's a pigeon dying in the street people will just keep
03:00walking and so i feel like they need somebody to look out for them
03:23they remember me that i feed them all the time and it just makes me really happy to know that
03:28there is somebody that they trust
03:35i just really hope that when people see me with these birds that we can start to change
03:42the public perception of these animals because they're not dirty they're really lovely and they're
03:48really kind some people feed stray cats and i feed pigeon i love it
