00:02We all need food to stay alive. Food gives us energy to work and play. It helps our body grow
00:11well. Food keeps our body healthy. Food contains many useful substances. These substances are
00:19called nutrients. The main nutrients in the food are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and
00:28minerals. Let us learn about the roles of these nutrients in our body. Carbohydrates and fats
00:36Carbohydrates and fats give us energy. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy. People who do
00:45physical work need a lot of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are found in rice, bread, potato,
00:52sugar, honey and other sweet things. Fats keep our body warm. But too much of fats cause obesity
01:01or motapa. Fats are found in ghee, butter, oil and dry fruits. Proteins. Proteins help our body grow.
01:11They also repair the damaged parts of our body. Children need a lot of proteins because they are
01:22eggs, fish, milk, meat, pulses and beans. Vitamins and minerals. Vitamins and minerals protect us from
01:33diseases. They keep us healthy. Vitamins and minerals are found in fresh fruits and vegetables.
01:41Water and Ruffage. Beside these food items, our body also needs water and ruffage. Our body needs
01:49six glasses of water every day. Water helps in digestion of food. Ruffage is found in carrot,
01:57radish, apple and cabbage. Ruffage keeps our bowel movement proper when we go to the toilet.
02:05A balanced diet. A balanced diet is one that contains proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins
02:13and minerals in the right amount. A balanced diet keep us healthy and happy.
02:20Cooking. Some food items need cooking. Rice, flour, pulses and most vegetables are cooked before we can
02:28use them. Cooking makes the food soft and tasty. We also use spices to give food special flavor.

02:43Shallow frying. Food from plants. Paratha, shallow frying. Rice, steaming or boiling. Idli, steaming. Dosa,

03:05Plants and animals. Plants gives us cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruits, spices and beverages.
