00:00Trump Threatens Mexico With Tariff Over Alleged Water Treaty Violations
00:05Well, it looks like Mexico has decided to play chicken with Texas farmers, and President Trump isn't having it.
00:12On Monday, the president made it loud and clear that if Mexico doesn't cough up 200,000 acre-feet of water immediately,
00:18there's a shiny new 5% tariff waiting for them under the Christmas tree.
00:22The deadline? December 31st.
00:24We're talking about the 1944 Water Treaty, a decades-old agreement between the U.S. and Mexico
00:30that's supposed to ensure farmers on both sides of the border get the water they need.
00:34Like, 800,000 acre-feet short.
00:37Trump administration worked out a deal with Mexican officials to boost the flow of water from their side of the Rio Grande.
00:44But here we are, just months later, and Mexico's once again defaulting on its obligations,
00:49and somehow expecting there won't be consequences.
00:52His message to Mexico couldn't be clearer.
00:54Release the water, or get ready to pay.
00:57In pesos and tariffs.
00:59The same people who screamed about Trump's supposed trade wars are now clutching their pearls over a 5% tariff
01:05that might actually make a foreign government honor a binding treaty.
01:09U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins backed the move, calling it a significant step forward.
01:15Meanwhile, the Rio Grande Valley, a region that's already weathered enough storms,
01:19is getting battered by policy neglect disguised as diplomacy.
01:22Will Mexico honor the deal they signed 81 years ago?
01:26But if history and tariffs have taught us anything, it's this.
01:31When Trump says, immediately, he means it.
