Liverpool sparkles as festive attractions, markets and light trails take over the city region

From Christmas markets and theatre trips to a light trail at Knowsley Safari, Liverpool is offering a packed programme of festive activities for families, friends and visitors.

00:00It is officially the most wonderful time of the year.

00:04Liverpool's full of sparkle and, let's face it, we could do with a shimmer of joy.

00:09Whether you're looking for something to keep the kids occupied,

00:12an eye out with friends or a date night with a difference,

00:14we are taking a look at what is going on right across the city region over the festive period.

00:19With sparkling lights, a plenty of events at Sefton Park's Palm House

00:22are always set against the most beautiful backdrop,

00:25but they really do take it up a notch for Yuletide joy.

00:27From Christmas crafts to sing-alongs, there's events running throughout December.

00:32The centrepiece of Liverpool City Centre is the traditional Christmas tree at Church Street,

00:37the impressive 50-foot trees decorated with thousands of LED lights and is sourced sustainably.

00:43And it's not just the city's outdoor spaces getting a festive makeover.

00:47The city halls, Liverpool Town Hall, Crocsworth Hall and inside St George's Hall

00:51are all brimming with Christmas cheer with a special programme of seasonal events for families,

00:56including storytime with Santa Sessions.

00:59Elsewhere in the city centre, you can find a giant bauble archway standing proudly on Paradise Street.

01:05Underneath Liverpool One's iconic Christmas tree on Chavas Park,

01:09Bar Hut has once again popped up just in time for the festive season

01:12with its unique take on Alpine Apreski,

01:15with a chance to sing your heart out on karaoke in your very own private hut.

01:19You can visit there until Wednesday, 31st of December.

01:23A merry mix of festive food, crafts and wintry fairground rides are on offer for visitors

01:28to Liverpool's Christmas market.

01:30As well as all the food on offer, there's craft and gift traders offering jewellery, ornaments,

01:36other stocking fillers, whether you're grabbing a mulled wine or a hot choccy.

01:40There are a few bars to choose from both indoor and out for that changeable winter weather,

01:45with the market's last day being Christmas Eve.

01:47Enchanted at Noseley Safari is an animal-themed evening light trial.

01:54The safari's illuminated festive extravaganzas returned once again.

01:58The attraction's foot safari has been completely transformed into a cacophony of colour

02:03and festive fantasia stroll through the sparkling light tunnel towards the winter village

02:08and catch Santa's elves hard at work, with Tuesday 23rd of December being its last night.

02:13Now, if it's a trip to the theatre that gets you in the festive spirit, you're absolutely

02:18spoilt for choice.

02:20Christmas pantomime season is well and truly here and features classics like Cinderella

02:24with Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn playing the fairy tale heroine in a sparkling

02:28seasonal show at the Epstein Theatre.

02:30Shakespeare North Playhouse are also have their own production of the tale.

02:34Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden plays the title role in St Helens, Theatre Royal's production

02:38of Dick Whittington, and the Scouse Christmas Carol at the Royal Court is now the venue's

02:43fastest-selling festive show in 15 years, but leave the kids at home for this one.

02:48All productions run right throughout the festive season and into the new year.
