00:00One time out there for the 40-plus club, everybody out there, men, women, whoever,
00:05you're over 40 years old, we still got somebody that's out there
00:09repping the gray-haired Silver Fox game.
00:11Phillip Rivers just signed with the Colts to be on the practice squad,
00:14and there's reports that he's going to serve as a potential option down the road.
00:18So don't worry.
00:19He doesn't have to just come in off the street
00:21or after being a high school football coach with all them daggone kids.
00:25He's not going to have to come in and play in the NFL game
00:28after only being in the building for a couple of days.
00:32Good-ish news for the Colts.
00:34Obviously, Daniel Jones goes down with a leg injury, and then he tears his Achilles.
00:39I don't even know why he was out there in the first place,
00:42but that's not – we don't need to get into that.
00:45Riley Leonard came in, looked serviceable.
00:47It was unfortunate he got hurt.
00:49Shane Steichen did say that he will be the starter if he's healthy.
00:54Anthony Richardson, last year's first-round draft pick, he's on IR.
00:57He'll probably be shipped up out of there.
01:00And Brett Ripien, who's healthy, he's a jag, what we call a jag, just a guy.
01:05No disrespect, but he's not the guy because if he was,
01:08they wouldn't be calling the 44-year-old quarterback out of retirement
01:12to step in and kind of save the season or at least keep them afloat.
01:16But if you're a Colts fan, I get it.
01:19You want to be – you're like, oh, weren't there other options out there?
01:23No, there was not.
01:24This is their version or smartest way or smartest version of going all the way in
01:29right now.
01:30He's in insurance policy because as of right now at 8-4, 8-5,
01:35they're still in the hunt.
01:37The trade deadline is over, so you can't trade for somebody.
01:40You can't go get Jameis, Russell Wilson, Mack Jones, not any of those guys.
01:45So you've got to go to the streets.
01:46And you're going to go with someone who obviously you're comfortable with,
01:50has NFL experience, and the last time that the Colts had any types of playoff
01:55success or made it to the playoffs was back in 2020 during the COVID season.
02:00And surprise, surprise, who's their quarterback?
02:03Phillip Rivers.
02:04Now he steps in right now, and he is now the oldest player in the NFL,
02:09and he has grandchildren.
02:11So let's see what that dynamic is going to be like when he's talking to the
02:14youngsters in the locker room like Tyler Warren or Michael Pittman.
02:18Aaron Rodgers is 42 years old.
02:20We see him.
02:21He's in.
02:22He's all right.
02:22He's still serviceable.
02:24Mercedes Lewis is the most impressive at 41 years old,
02:27and he plays tight end for the Broncos.
02:30And obviously there's Nick Falk.
02:31He's 41.
02:33Kickers can play forever.
02:35George Bland is the oldest player in NFL history.
02:37He retired at 48 years old.
02:39But in my opinion, let's go back to Rivers because they've got four games left.
02:43If they can hide him on the practice squad for as long as possible,
02:48get serviceable quarterback play out of Riley Leonard or Brett Ripien,
02:54that's a win for him because it should be an easy-ish transition for Phillip Rivers.
03:01We're talking about a man that's played a lot of football,
03:04that's won a lot of football games.
03:06So if you're worried that he's going to step in
03:08and worried that he's not going to be able to pick up an NFL playbook
03:11after being out for, what, a year, year and a half,
03:14or however long he's been gone, you're wrong.
03:18This guy, again, I say it all the time.
03:20In football, the concepts are pretty much the same.
03:23The protections are pretty much the same.
03:26Defenses are pretty much the same.
03:28It's just all about the terminology.
03:29You're going to have to come in and relearn a terminology per se.
03:33But there's some sort of familiarity with Shane Steichen's offense
03:37or someone within that offensive system that he can come in
03:41and just pick up the terminology right away.
03:44Again, you don't want him to have to play in these next four games if he doesn't have to
03:50because you're talking about the Seahawks, the 49ers, the Jags, the Texans.
03:54All four of these teams are damn good.
03:57All four of these teams got damn good defenses.
03:59So you don't want to have to have a 44-year-old quarterback having to scramble
04:03or be any sort of dynamic at all and run around in what we call a young man's game.
04:10But if he has to step in and play, he's going to know when to get the football out.
04:15He's going to know who to go to, when, and what coverage.
04:18He's going to know the right decisions to make.
04:20And I feel as though the Colts have a strong run game with Jonathan Taylor
04:24and they'll be able to protect him because they've got one of the top offensive lines
04:28in the NFL.
04:29Shout out to Phillip Rivers doing it for all of us with bad backs, bad knees, bad Achilles,
04:38just anything and everything out there.
04:40Hope you go out there, throw some touchdowns, talk some trash,
04:44and let them know that, let all the YNs and the young cats out there know that we old cats,
04:49us unks still got it.
04:50Shout out to Phillip Rivers.
04:51Shout out to Phillip Rivers.
