00:00What was a difficult decision you made recently?
00:03Oh, this one's very obvious.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:06And today, we're dissecting the 2026 Golden Globes nominations
00:10from the most well-deserved or surprising choices
00:13to the most wicked snubs.
00:15If only you disproved the theory
00:17that you can't improve perfection.
00:22Shocking snubs.
00:23Letter out of good intentions
00:25led where such roads always lead.
00:28No deed goes unpunished, huh?
00:31While Wicked Part 1 couldn't have had an easier time
00:33picking up nominations for Best Musical or Comedy,
00:36the critics had spoken
00:37and seemingly decided that Wicked for good
00:40had not been changed for the better.
00:42Or at least not enough to gain their votes.
00:44Getting your dreams is strange
00:47But it seems a little well complicated
00:52Look, if the wickedly talented Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande
00:56had walked away empty-handed,
00:58we may have rioted.
01:00Luckily, the 2026 committee is safe on that front.
01:03However, another snub for John M. Chu?
01:05Seriously?
01:06What does the man have to do to be recognized here?
01:09Even the new songs got some love, but not him.
01:12At least the cinematic and box office achievement nom
01:15shows the fans still showed up,
01:16even if the Golden Globes committee decided otherwise.
01:19Come and be wonderful
01:21Trust me, it's fun
01:23We will be wonderful
01:26You'll make me wonderful
01:29Maybe this just isn't the moment for live-action musicals.
01:32Kiss of the Spider Woman earned some seriously glowing reviews,
01:36even though its box office run barely made a dent,
01:39pulling in just $2 million of its $30 million budget.
01:42There's so much that's beautiful
01:44Would you like to see it?
01:48Jennifer Lopez seemed tailor-made for this role,
01:51with Deadline even stamping her as born to play the part.
01:54With that kind of praise,
01:55you'd think she'd be a shoo-in for an om.
01:57Instead, the committee slipped straight through the cracks in that web.
02:00Wait, you throw us right in.
02:03We know nothing about the story or the characters.
02:05Well, it's a musical, there's not a lot to know.
02:07We sincerely hope this oversight ends up being a stray thread,
02:10not the start of a whole tangled season.
02:13Sadly, we're not sure we should be holding our breath.
02:15I'm sorry to break the news.
02:19Nobody sings in real life.
02:21Well, maybe they should.
02:23Excuse us, detective,
02:24we'd like to report a missing Golden Globe nomination.
02:27Meryl Streep, who usually gets recognized
02:29any time she even breathes near a high-quality project,
02:32got completely iced out.
02:34I want you to know one thing,
02:35not everything is gone.
02:36I know.
02:37I have you, you have me.
02:39That's really, that's all that matters.
02:42Wow, you really sold that.
02:44Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez
02:47are all nominated for only murders in the building.
02:49But unlike last year,
02:51Streep is just standing outside in the cold on her own this season.
02:54All right, I'm so sorry.
02:56Oh, you're a sweetie.
02:59But, you know,
03:00didn't fly all this way for doom and gloom.
03:02Hugh Jackman also often gets automatic Globes love,
03:05especially when he's in a musical.
03:08Not this time.
03:09I could really use for you to tell me I'm doing the right thing.
03:13I think you are.
03:14His film Song Sung Blue pulled an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes
03:18and received plenty of warm reception.
03:20Yet he still ended up on the snub list.
03:23At least Kate Hudson landed a nomination in her category.
03:26Bad things happen over and over.
03:28And I just want to sing and I want to shine.
03:30And then there's Superman,
03:32which crushed at the box office,
03:34yet somehow still didn't make the cut.
03:36Even K-pop Demon Hunters made the category,
03:39even though it didn't even have a proper theatrical release.
03:42Make it make sense.
03:43They're demons.
03:44Since we're already in the land of unexpected omissions,
03:50Gwyneth Paltrow getting nothing for Marty Supreme felt especially chilly.
03:54And someone absolutely needs to check in with the committee about The Last of Us,
03:57the third Knives Out movie,
03:59The Gilded Age,
04:00and Abbott Elementary.
04:01It's about to have Al Sharpton up in here.
04:03Who's Al Sharpton?
04:04Go back to class and learn something.
04:06My God.
04:07Quinta Brunson has been a steady awards favorite up until now,
04:10so that silence stung.
04:12We also saw The Pit's Emmy winners,
04:14Catherine Lanasa and Sean Hattesey getting shut out entirely.
04:17It's always a rough way to end the night.
04:20Must have had a reason at one time to keep coming back, but...
04:24The controversial hot take picks.
04:26New to the Golden Globes this year is the best podcast category,
04:30and it's already pretty hard to ignore the kinds of shows
04:32that got left out during its big debut.
04:34She has strict instructions as to her behavior.
04:37She's to keep to two subjects,
04:38the weather and everybody's health.
04:40Fine day, and how'd you do?
04:42And not just let herself go on things in general.
04:43Help her along, darling.
04:44You'll be quite safe.
04:45You've got Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,
04:48Call Her Daddy,
04:49Good Hang with Amy Poehler,
04:50and Smart Less all sitting pretty with nominations,
04:53ready to make a little awards history.
04:56But the shows that lean a bit more political,
04:59or let's just say,
05:00require a very specific palette,
05:02got iced out fast.
05:04That includes The Joe Rogan Experience,
05:06even though it's literally the number one podcast of 2025.
05:09The committee really said no thank you.
05:11This is what we were talking about earlier,
05:12about everything being bad.
05:15I don't think it is.
05:16I think it's just a lot of noise.
05:18There's a lot of noise.
05:19A lot of people yelling.
05:20And speaking of divisive figures,
05:22Sydney Sweeney.
05:23I think that's why I gravitate towards characters and stories
05:27that are complicated,
05:28and are maybe morally questionable,
05:32and characters that are on the page hard to like.
05:35Christy didn't exactly land with audiences,
05:38and ended up being one of the biggest flops of the year.
05:41But critics were actually kind of united behind her performance.
05:45Most agreed she delivered her best work so far.
05:47Still not enough for a Golden Globe nomination.
05:50Hey dad,
05:50I think I want to come home.
05:53Want to lose your trainer,
05:55your career,
05:56all of it?
05:57She's had a pretty eventful year overall,
06:01and honestly,
06:02this probably comes down to the simple fact
06:04that barely anyone even watched the movie.
06:06Let's be honest,
06:07there were a lot of odds stacked against it.
06:09You think you what makes the world turn.
06:12But one day you're going to wake up and realize
06:15that it turns just fine without you.
06:18It also feels like the committee went for the underdogs this year,
06:22instead of the more popular,
06:24lar,
06:24blockbusters.
06:25We're absolutely not bitter.
06:26Something is very wrong.
06:29I didn't get in my way.
06:31I need to lie down.
06:32Independent and international productions
06:34get their moment to shine
06:35with titles like Marty Supreme,
06:37Blue Moon,
06:38No Other Choice,
06:39and Begonia on the musical and comedy side,
06:42while The Secret Agent,
06:43Sentimental Value,
06:44and Hamnet take the spotlight in drama.
06:47Even Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein
06:48managed to surprise us.
06:50Yes, yes, yes,
06:51but what did you think?
06:53Hmm?
06:54I thought it was brilliant.
06:56It was, I know.
06:59There's a lot of talk that when it comes to TV especially,
07:02the committee seems to have played it safe this year,
07:04steering toward crowd pleasers instead of giving credit where it probably should have gone.
07:08The distance between what is said...
07:11Shut it down.
07:12...and what is known to be true
07:14has become an abyss.
07:18More than a few folks feel like these nominations weren't about the boldest choices
07:22or the strongest performances,
07:24but about sticking with options that felt low risk and guaranteed.
07:27In short,
07:28a very Golden Globes kind of Golden Globes year.
07:30I just don't think
07:31at this age
07:34I'm
07:34meant to live an uncomfortable life.
07:39I don't have the will.
07:41Happy surprises.
07:42Look, it's not all snubs and safe bets.
07:45There are certainly more than a fair share of names
07:47that absolutely deserve the recognition they're getting.
07:50Every up,
07:51every down,
07:51every choice,
07:52every mistake
07:53carry you here
07:54to this spot
07:55where you belong.
07:57On the TV side,
07:59Glenn Powell popped up for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series for Chad Powers,
08:03which was a pleasantly fun surprise that we did not see coming.
08:06Natasha Lyonne also landed a nomination for Poker Face,
08:10which was so unexpected because the show just got cancelled,
08:13so it felt like a sweet and well-deserved farewell nod.
08:15So, where are you headed?
08:18Oh, uh,
08:19I guess that's a deceptively profound question.
08:23Well,
08:23I'm going to Wichita.
08:25It works for me.
08:28Ray Sehorne finally got her moment, too,
08:31with a Best Actress nomination for Pluribus.
08:33After years of being overlooked for her brilliant work on Better Call Saul,
08:37finally justice where it's due.
08:39This is a place where you can trust
08:41that if you want to try something,
08:43you can do it
08:44and just give it a shot,
08:46even if it falls on its face
08:47and it wasn't a good choice.
08:48And if your director
08:50is making modulations
08:52and asks you to try something,
08:54don't be scared,
08:54just do it.
08:55Just jump off that cliff
08:56and try it.

09:09make sure you go into your settings
09:11and switch on notifications.
09:13Over in film,
09:14Julia Roberts is nominated
09:15for Best Actress
09:16in After the Hunt,
09:17which may raise some eyebrows
09:19since the movie
09:19wasn't exactly a critical darling.
09:21You've constructed a life
09:23that hides
09:23your accidental privilege,
09:27neediness,
09:28desperate desire to impress.
09:29At least I have the self-respect
09:31to be obvious
09:32about what it is that I want.
09:34Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson
09:35both scored nominations
09:36for The Smashing Machine.
09:38Given the movie's
09:39quiet box office,
09:40who saw that one coming?
09:42The Globes clearly decided
09:43performance mattered
09:44more than ticket sales
09:45in this case.
09:46Amy Madigan also joins
09:47the ranks of Best Supporting Actresses
09:49for Weapons.
09:50It's nice to see horror
09:51get some recognition this year.
09:53Then, in Sentimental Value,
09:55Inga Yves' daughter Lilos
09:56earned a nomination
09:57alongside Elle Fanning,
09:59showing that you don't
10:00just have to be
10:00a well-established global star
10:02to get The Globe's attention.
10:12Given some of the surprises
10:14to make the list
10:14and those who have been snubbed,
10:16we certainly couldn't call
10:18who might come out victorious
10:19in any of these categories,
10:20but we sure look forward
10:22to finding out in January.
10:27Who are you glad to see nominated
10:28and who are you shocked
10:30didn't get the recognition
10:31they deserved?
