00:00Irish singer Sinead O'Connor died at the age of 56. Her family revealed the news in a solemn
00:06statement that read, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead.
00:11Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this difficult time.
00:16Met police said that the singer was found unresponsive shortly before noon in a London
00:20home and pronounced dead on the scene. They did not say how she died, but added that her death
00:24was not considered suspicious. Sinead was public about her battle with mental health
00:28throughout her life and was faced with scrutiny throughout her career for speaking out about
00:33various social issues, including the sexual abuse of children in the Catholic Church.
00:38The Nothing Compares To You singer's son Shane died by suicide in January 2022, and in one of her last
00:44social media posts, Sinead said that she's been living as undead night creatures since.
00:49Celebrity tributes to the Irish singer poured in. Irish UFC star Conor McGregor tweeted,

01:25never be complete. We've all lost an icon. I've lost a friend. In one of the most beautiful
01:30tributes from the stars, Russell Crowe recalled meeting Sinead last year while working on a movie
01:35in Ireland. He revealed that while he was sitting in a bar, a woman with purpose strode past us while
01:40wearing a zipped up jacket and a headscarf. He said that one of his friends followed her and caught
01:45up with her and gave her a hug. The gladiator star wrote, there under streetlights with mist on my
01:50breath, I met Sinead. She looked in my eyes and uttered with disarming softness, oh, it's you,
01:55Russell. He said they went on to have a drink and had a wide ranging conversation, including politics,
02:01the fight for indigenous recognition, music, her memories of New Zealand and more. Russell revealed
02:07he had the opportunity to tell her she was a hero of his and concluded his thread by saying that he
02:12and his pals were in awe of Sinead when she left. In the end, Russell wrote, peace be with your courageous
02:19heart, Sinead.
