00:00I look at Andy Reid and I go, you had the worst coaching moment in this game.
00:05Of the season.
00:07Okay.
00:08You're going of their season?
00:09I mean, their playoff lives were on the line.
00:12And this is the Chiefs.
00:14And I'll tell you what, Chris Jones was playing like it.
00:16Oh, my gosh.
00:18He was playing like that was a playoff game.
00:20There was only one dude tickling tonsils on that Chiefs team.
00:23Buddy.
00:24And that was Chris Jones.
00:25Yeah, Andy.
00:25I will say.
00:26He had that team on his back.
00:28Yes, he did.
00:29And that's the team with Patrick Mahomes.
00:31If you talk about moments or instances where you go, ooh, I don't know.
00:35It was in the third quarter when Chris Jones is just feasting on this offensive line.
00:39Four straight plays?
00:41He was more than that.
00:42Four straight plays.
00:43It felt like 12 people was blitzing.
00:45It was more than that.
00:46Like, Chris.
00:47No, I mean, four consecutive where it was either a sack.
00:49Oh, yeah.
00:50A tip ball or a pressure that made the play.
00:52Yeah, he was always right there.
00:54It was one of the disconcerting things about this game is that
00:58we had started getting to a place where we're like, huh, offensive line can hold water.
01:04Ed Ingram, who I think you could reasonably say has been the best offensive lineman of these offensive linemen.
01:10He was out there getting his ass taxed by Chris Jones.
01:12I'm talking about Chris Jones who's whooping his ass.
01:16But I want to talk about Andy Reid.
01:17Okay.
01:18Because I think there's a bigger story in play here.
01:21I'm not saying that you're wrong if you're in the camp of, boy, he choked.
01:27He panicked.
01:29Desperation move.
01:30Worst.
01:30I think it was the worst coaching decision of the season considering the context of what the Chiefs were facing and all that.
01:36And I had to give him a little bit of credit because I did go and find the stat that coming into this game were 21 of 26 on fourth down.
01:43That's just something that they expect themselves to be able to do.
01:45Not against this Texas defense, though.
01:47Can I give a moment?
01:48Because I know you're holding on to a thought and I feel like a jerk.
01:51I'm delaying it.
01:51That's all right.
01:52We got time.
01:53Can we give Derek Stingley a lot of credit there?
01:55Oh, was he playing last night?
01:57Derek Stingley.
01:58Never heard his name.
01:58Never saw him.
01:59Derek Stingley had to fight through.
02:02That's a matchup zone.
02:03And Chris Collinsworth calls it a zone.
02:05He has to fight through traffic to get to that play and make a pass breakup on a quick in-breaker.
02:11And he does.
02:12Like, he just closes that distance in an instance through bodies.
02:16What an incredible play on that fourth down.
02:17Yeah, he was just, I mean, he takes away the whole side of the field sometimes.
02:22And when you do test him, like in that case, he makes a play.
02:25But on Andy Reid, he, over the years in a previous iteration of Andy Reid,
02:32he would be criticized for game management and such.
02:36Without question.
02:37Clock management in particular.
02:38Clock management.
02:39But not this.
02:41Not an absolute choke on your, what was it, 31-yard line or whatever?
02:4631, yes.
02:47Yeah, 31-yard line with the game on the line.
02:51You know, you don't make that play.
02:53He panicked.
02:53He choked.
02:54He was desperate.
02:56I want to get into the why.
02:58Oh, I love this because I think the why matters here.
03:00I want to get into the why because, yes, all of that is true.
03:04He cost that game and, by extension, the season of the Chiefs.
03:09But Chris Collinsworth was talking on TV.
03:12Boy, was he talking.
03:13We're not getting into that part of it.
03:14Okay, my bad.
03:15Sorry.
03:16He was talking about TV like, well, he's an offensive-minded coach
03:19and that's just the way he's wired and that's probably why.
03:22No, man.
03:23I think he went for that because that was like desperation mode.
03:27I got to find something against this defense.
03:29I think the Texans' defense had as much to do with that.
03:33Yes, they were hard to move the ball on.
03:35It was fourth and just, what, about a yard and a half?
03:38No.
03:38It was a long one, I want to say.
03:41Yeah, fourth and a long one.
03:41Yeah.
03:42Yeah.
03:42And they went empty.
03:44I think the Texans' defense got in Andy Reid's head.
03:47And basically, you know, he was thinking, I've got to go for it.
03:51I don't know if we're going to be able to move the ball against this team.
03:54It's fourth and one.
03:55Let's roll the dice.
03:57And he rolled the dice.
03:58Yes, it was an awful decision.
04:01I'm giving the Texans credit on this.
04:03Without question.
04:04I think also, like the Texans' defense deserves credit.
04:07I think why it's such a bad decision is the Texans' offense.
04:10The Texans' offense was atrocious in the third quarter.
04:12We can't ignore that.
04:13I don't think anybody's invested in it.
04:15Yes, we can.
04:16No, we can't.
04:17No, we can't.
04:18Let's talk about it on Thursday or something, man.
04:20Not even tomorrow?
04:21Thursday?
04:22I got to wait until Thursday, Finn.
04:23Yeah, man.
04:24That's crazy.
04:25No, they were terrible.
04:27And they were terrible because, in juxtaposition, the first quarter, they looked really good.
04:31Right?
04:32They were doing a great job moving around.
04:34CJ Stroud making some plays out of structure on top of getting the ball to the right places in structure.
04:39I thought that was very good.
04:40And you got to give Nick Haley some credit in that first quarter that they were doing things.
04:44In that third quarter, or the first half, rather.
04:46In the third quarter, because Chris Jones was blowing things up, even Carl Loftus was getting involved, who had not been playing all that well.
04:53Your offensive line was a little bit leakier.
04:55And you were getting into places where all your routes were still downfield.
04:59It's one of those things that we talk about with Nick Haley where we go, hey, man, can you give some easy buttons?
05:04And I will give you a little bit of credit.
05:07There were screens and stuff that were entirely blown up because the Chiefs were also very smart in getting their hands up.
05:12Once they were stopped at the line of scrimmage, they would get their hands up and make it so that CJ, the quick passes were hard to do.
05:18So he had to float the ball, try and get it over the line, but also try and get it to his guys in space.
05:23Clearly, that messed things up.
05:24But I think that that is another reason why Andy Reid, not putting the ball and saying, this defense is on Nick Haley and this offense is ass.
05:31We don't keep putting them in that place, going for it there, missing it and putting the Texans on the 31, restarted the offense just far enough for them to finish the game.
05:40Because I think at that point, the Texans hadn't been running the ball well at all.
05:45They've been getting stuffed.
05:46And then they're in the shadow of a field goal.
05:48They know that they can do that.
05:49And then they start getting three yards, three yards, three yards, enough for them to ultimately get a touchdown.
05:54And by the way, CJ Stroud, a Mahomes play to avoid what could have been catastrophic sack.
05:59Absolutely.
06:00You know, and pushed them out of field goal range.
06:02Give CJ Stroud credit on that.
06:03But to your point, you're absolutely right.
06:06Those are all things that Andy Reid should have thought about.
06:09100%.
06:09Our defense is doing great.
06:10They're not really doing a whole lot on offense.
06:12Let's punt the ball and get another chance.
06:15But again, I'll go back to the same question.
06:17Why didn't he do that?
06:18Why didn't he do that?
06:19Because we got fourth and one.
06:22You know, obviously, he believes in Patrick Mahomes.
06:24And he was out of sorts.
06:27Why were we out of sorts?
06:28Because of this Texans defense.
06:29And let's extend it.
06:31Mahomes was 0-4 in the fourth quarter with two interceptions.
06:35Travis Kelsey was seeing ghosts.
06:38You know, the receivers were crumbling and alligator arming stuff and missing easy receptions.
06:44You know, that maybe were a little bit off target, as they pointed out.
06:47But receptions that they easily could have made.
06:50Andy Reid, the Texans defense got in Andy Reid's head.
06:53And he got desperate.
06:54I think, yes, it was stupid.
06:56But there was a reason for it.
06:58And it was the Texans defense.
06:59It was desperation or arrogance.
07:01Yeah.
07:01It was desperation or arrogance in that moment.
07:04Either way, it served them terrible.
07:06And I go back to Reggie on Friday, and I was looking, and I go, oof, I'm a little afraid of the coaching matchup in this.
07:13D'Amico Ryan's, I think, rightfully and maybe jokingly, right, to be fair, seeding that, hey, man, I'm not anticipating matching wits with Andy Reid.
07:21I feel like the end of the first half still had some problems for the Texans.
07:25Oh, we'll get to that.
07:26We got passing thoughts coming.
07:27But, like, when all is said and done, I don't know if Andy Reid was inherently, like, the worst, like, decision maker all the way around.
07:34But he absolutely made the worst decision of this game.
07:36Without question.
07:37Without question.
07:38That we can agree upon.
07:39I think everyone would agree upon.
07:41He cost them the game and the season by extension with that.
07:45I just feel like when your offense has been struggling so much against a defense that is just destroying you, you see that one yard, and you say, well, now's our shot.
07:57We got to do it.
07:58And then maybe we get lucky and make another big play.
08:00Yeah.
08:01He decided to be aggressive there.
08:03And I will say, I appreciate it because, again, I sincerely believe that your ability to jumpstart the run, even though the run didn't, like, come back to being fantastic,
08:11was because you're in that place where you can have some confidence.
08:15Guys, just go out here.
08:16Be aggressive.
08:17You don't have to worry too much about losing yardage.
08:19You're in field goal range already.
08:21And so I think that that allowed the run game to start picking up, and they stopped having three and outs at that point.
08:26Like, at that point, it was like, all right, well, we can go move the football.
08:30We can go score a touchdown that then puts you up and then change the game script back, right?
08:34It goes from a 10-10 game to a 17-10 game and applies even more pressure, right?
08:39That's one of the things we've talked about a ton this season is if the offense can do enough to apply game script pressure to the other team,
08:46the defense goes to another level, and they did.
08:47And the Chiefs defense lost a little gas, too, you know, but when they all of a sudden had to take the field on the 31-yard line.
08:53Yeah, that's a four-play because they had previously in the third quarter eight-play drive, seven-play drive, seven-play drive.
09:00Then the defense gets – they get the ball at three because of an interception.
09:03They get the ball after four because of a, you know, fourth down stop.
09:07Then the next one, you get another fourth down stop.
09:09Again, credit to the defense.
09:10Defense was having to get on the field more, and then you could wear them down,
09:13and that's how the game was won in my estimation.
09:16So shout-out to Andy Reid making that gambling decision.
09:18He does gamble on his offense.
09:20That is fair, but in that moment, you had to have the situation,
09:23and I think he made the wrong situational decision.
09:25And that's the thing.
09:26This Texans defense, to your credit, the Texans defense changes the calculus in NFL football.
09:31That is probably the biggest credit you can give to the Texans defense.
09:34What you think –
09:34I thought that was the biggest testament to how great they are.
09:36What you think is your typical M.O. has to change
09:41because the Houston Texans defense is on the –
