During a December 8, 2025 press briefing, India’s MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made a blunt remark about Pakistan’s political turmoil, stating, “Democracy and Pakistan simply don’t go together. The less we talk [about it], the better.” The comment came amid ongoing protests over former PM Imran Khan’s imprisonment and alleged military interference in civilian governance. While India says it is “closely monitoring” the situation, Jaiswal refrained from deeper commentary, sparking widespread attention and debate on X (formerly Twitter).

00:00Good evening dear friends. Let's begin our conversation. The floor is open.
00:30Hi sir, Sidhan from Vion. We saw recently there was a case of an Indian national getting
00:38stuck at the Shanghai airport. We saw the reaction as well. But any guidance by the Indian side
00:44over the Indian nationals transiting through China? Any suggestion to them? Any question
00:50for them?
00:51Sahil.
00:52Sir, I am Sahil Pate from the ANI news agency. The UK government has taken action against
01:00Gurpil Singh Rihal of Babu Khalsa and an outfit called Babur Akali Leher. How does India see
01:06such action against pro-Khalisthan element, sir? Thank you.
01:10Keshav.
01:11Keshav.
01:12Thank you, sir. Keshav Padmanavan from The Print. Last week you had the counter-terrorism
01:18dialogue with the U.S. where there were, in the statement it said that you are looking
01:23at designating more individuals under the 1267 sanctions list. Can you give us a sense
01:28of what the conversation was and whether there was any agreement that there were certain individuals
01:34that India is pushing to be sanctioned by the U.S.? Thank you.
01:41Keshav.
01:59because in the immediate neighborhood of democracy in Pakistan
02:02that will always be true.
02:04And my second question is Indigo.
02:06In which the crisis has started,
02:08all the diplomats have tweeted and told
02:11how to face them.
02:14So, did anyone get rid of their message
02:17and tell them what's going on?
02:21Yeshi.
02:24This is Yeshi Selye from Business India.
02:27My question is on the 8th Naval Veteran in Qatar.
02:30He has gone back to solitary confinement
02:32and is possibly going to be in jail for six more years.
02:36Anything on that?
02:45Okay, so first these questions and then we will come back for more.
02:51First Siddhant, your question.
02:53We fully share your concern.
02:56Following the recent incident at the Shanghai airport
03:01that you have sighted,
03:03we expect the Chinese authorities
03:06to provide assurances that Indian citizens
03:09transiting through Chinese airports
03:12will not be selectively targeted,
03:15arbitrarily detained or harassed,
03:19and that regulations governing international air travel
03:23would be respected by the Chinese side.
03:26The MEA would advise Indian nationals
03:30to excise due discretion
03:32while travelling to China
03:34or while transiting through the country.
03:38In the country.
03:39In the country.
03:40In the country.
03:41In the country.
03:42No or those who nice will be
03:43into the New Eden
03:48New Zealand TR is also tenga-
04:11we are too worried about these people.
04:17And we will be able to do the things of the Chinese.
04:20We will be able to enjoy the Chinese and to change the Chinese.
04:25We will be able to support the Chinese.
04:29If there is a way to the Chinese,
04:32the Chinese is coming to the Chinese,
04:34or the Chinese,
04:36we will be able to change the Chinese.
04:38Sahil, coming to your question, we welcome the steps that have been taken by the UK government
04:44to sanction anti-India extremist entities which strengthen the global fight against
04:54terrorism and extremism and help to curb illicit financial flows and transnational crime networks.
05:03Such individuals and entities pose a threat not just to India and the UK, but to people
05:12across the world. We look forward to continuing to work very closely with the UK side in further
05:19strengthening our counter-terrorism and security cooperation.
05:24Yes, we had the 21st meeting of India-US counter-terrorism working group meeting. This was held on 3rd of December.
05:39We've also given a readout, a comprehensive readout of all that was discussed as part of this CT dialogue, which is very important.
05:47And it has been happening for several years now. Both sides attach high importance to counter-terrorism cooperation.
05:54This is an important element of our comprehensive global strategic partnership that we share with the United States.
06:03The two sides strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahlgam, as also the recent terror attack that happened in Delhi.
06:12The two sides renewed their commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation in the fields of terrorism,
06:19including at the UN, including within the format of Quad, as also in the format of Financial Action Task Force,
06:27and several other multilateral forums where we continue to discuss these aspects.
06:33The two sides called for additional designations of ISIS and Al-Qaeda affiliates, and Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Jashri Muhammad, and their proxy groups.
06:43So, it once again demonstrates the kind of commitment that both India and the United States share, understand, and are working with,
06:52to strengthen fight against terrorism, and to strengthen global fight against terrorism.
06:57For more details, I would say that if you can look at our press release or statement that we had issued on 6th of December,
07:06you will have more details in regard to all that was discussed over and above what I have said.
07:13Thank you very much.
07:23।
07:25।
07:39।
07:41।
07:43।
07:45।
07:47।
07:49।
07:51।
07:52that the government is working on the issue of the government, the government will be
08:00working on that mantra again.
08:04I don't have an update on this particular issue, but I will revert to you with the latest.
08:15U.S. National Security Strategy 2025 has been released on Friday, and the strategy mentions India also.
08:28It says that it will encourage New Delhi to contribute to Indo-Pacific security, including through Quad.
08:35It also mentions India's cooperation with India in commerce, trade, and also in technology and critical minerals.
08:42So what is your reaction on that?
08:45Krishan Mohan?
08:48Mr. Krishan Mohan Sharma, Bahant Express.
08:50In Bangladesh, there was a brutal killing in Bangladesh.
08:53Two freedom fighters, who had 75 years old, have been killed by their wife.
08:58And the public said that the targeted killing began with minority people.
09:03Okay.
09:04Mr. Nira.
09:13Mr. Nira Joon New Jet in India, sir.
10:23Thank you, sir.
10:24Why Awad from Arab News?
10:26Actually, I wanted to ask regarding there is likely visit by the Prime Minister to Oman
10:35and Jordan.
10:36Do you have anything to give us on these visits, please, and what is the agenda?
10:41Okay, Aklesh, first we come to your question.
10:46Yes, we have seen the report that you mentioned.
10:50It reflects, it underscores the importance that the United States attaches to India as a key
10:55partner.
10:56As you know, we have a multifaceted relationship with the United States.
11:00Both countries enjoy comprehensive global strategic partnership and continue to work to further
11:06strengthen these ties.
11:16Thank you, sir.
11:23Thank you, sir.
11:46We have told you that in a positive direction, we are growing in a positive direction and we want to take it in a positive direction.
11:58Now on the upcoming, sorry, your question.
12:03On energy sourcing, we have maintained a consistent policy and I have made this clear several locations that our energy sourcing is dependent on the dynamics in the global market as also the imperative for us to provide energy at affordable rates to our 1.4 billion people.
12:26As far as sourcing of energy or buying of oil and energy by our private companies are concerned, it is something that is for them to decide based on commercial consideration.
12:39That is again based on the dynamics in the global oil market.
12:44Awad, on the Prime Minister's visit that you referred, we will keep you updated in this regard.
12:51We will update you as and when these things are finalized and hopefully we can come up with that soon.
13:04Ajay.
13:05Sir, good evening.
13:06I am Ajay Banerjee from the Tribune.
13:07I seek a clarification, sir.
13:08You just answered that on energy sourcing.
13:10So do I understand correctly that we have not imposed an embargo on our companies to source oil from Russia?
13:19As I said, sorry.
13:20Let's go.
13:21Thank you, sir.
13:22This is a follow-up, another clarification from India-Russia's joint statement on nuclear cooperation.
13:35I believe that there was a proposal to set up a nuclear plant in West Bengal, Haripura, which is not being taken up.
13:44So they are asking perhaps for the alternative site.
13:47So whether, can we say that Haripura project is abandoned and you will be giving, finding out a new site for their channels?
13:57Yes.

14:06News in India.
14:07Sir, recently we have seen that Pakistan has a clash with Afghanistan and civilians.
14:15We have seen that now in Thailand and Cambodia have clashes.
14:20It is all about the pressure that President Trump has claimed that this is one of the eight wars
14:25that he had been closed in the country.
14:28This is your comment.
14:29Shalindra.
14:30Shalindra.

14:44Reza from the Hindustan times.
15:02Myanmar is set to go to elections but several political forces within the country are questioning
15:07the credibility of the process.
15:09I was wondering if you could tell us about New Delhi's stand on these upcoming elections.
15:14Ajay, first to your question, on oil purchases and energy sourcing, our point has been very
15:21clear.
15:23It is based on the imperative to meet the energy security needs of our people, as also
15:28the dynamics that are there in the global oil market.
15:33Vatham, your question on nuclear cooperation with the Russian Federation.
15:43This is a pillar of cooperation that has been going on for several years and decades now.
15:48And one of the successes of this cooperation, during this particular annual summit as well,
15:54it was a matter which was discussed between both sides as to how it can be taken forward
16:01further.
16:03And so far as your specific query regarding the site that you mentioned is concerned,
16:08I'll have to get back to you as to what is the update in that regard.
16:13Shalendra, your question is about Afghanistan-Pakistan, which is going on a fight, taking it to Afghanistan-Pakistan.
16:28I'll have to get back to you as well.
16:33We have seen reports of border clashes.
17:00We have seen reports of border clashes in which several Afghan civilians have been killed.
17:07We condemn such attacks on innocent Afghan people.
17:13India strongly supports the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Afghanistan.
17:23On Thailand and Cambodia, we are closely following the developments there.
17:28We hope that both sides will exercise restraint and there will be cessation of hostilities.
17:35We urge both sides to return to the path of dialogue and peace.
17:43Jugal, on your question regarding the visit that you referred to, I don't have any update to share on this particular matter.
17:52Jugal, on Reza, your question regarding Myanmar.
18:01We support, India supports transition to democracy in Myanmar.
18:08And it is of the view that participation of all stakeholders is important for the credibility of the elections, the electoral exercise that is to happen there.
18:21It needs to be free, fair and inclusive.
18:24India will continue to support all efforts that advance peace, dialogue and return to normalcy in the country.
19:03I mean, you have been supporting the humanitarian needs of people of Afghanistan, for example.
19:08They have always made the distinction between the Afghan people and Taliban.
19:12While I understand the problematic situation that Myanmar is in, why isn't there similar urgency among the Indian establishment regarding the people of Myanmar?
