00:19during talks with Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin.

00:24these claims are misleading and distort what was said.

00:27During the press conference in early December,

00:30Tusk actually urged Germany to provide support to Polish victims

00:33of World War II atrocities who are still alive.

00:36He added that if Germany failed to act quickly,

00:39he would consider using Poland's own resources to compensate the victims.

00:43The exchange was part of the long-running reparations debate between Poland and Germany.

00:48Poland's previous nationalist government demanded 1.3 trillion euros in reparations

00:54for Germany's occupation between 1939 and 1945, which devastated the country.

01:00But Berlin insists.

01:01The issue was settled in 1953 and again in 1990.

01:37Speaking to the Cube, former defence minister Jan Paris said he believed Poland was deeply divided,

01:43with the opposition favouring cooperation with the United States,

01:47when in his view, Donald Tusk's government prefers cooperation with Germany.
