Taipei Illustration Fair Highlights Fresh Local, International Talent

The 2025 Taipei Illustration Fair brought together emerging artists from Taiwan and more than a dozen countries at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. Exhibits ranged from daily life sketches to sci-fi concepts and pet-inspired art, reflecting this year’s theme, “I wish to be a cat in my next life.”

00:00Taipei's 2025 Illustration Fair saw scores of original artists from more than a dozen countries,

00:06beginner and expert creators, and a few good pets share one roof at Songshang Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei this weekend.

00:30This year's theme, I wish to be a cat in my next life, and pets, either real or in images, were prominent.

00:39The approach provided a good stage for some young and budding talent.

00:43And I want them to experience firsthand and to stand here and to talk about their work

00:49and to represent their work, to be proud of their work, yeah, to love their work, yeah,

00:53and to listen to what people's reaction to their work.

01:00Those reactions included getting creeped out, because among the cute and fuzzy,

01:04a bit of gross and darkly funny.

01:06The fair was not limited to advanced materials and defined concepts.

01:31One artist used materials many of us have at hand.

01:34And I make post-it note drawings with markers and colored pencils and ink.

01:41And then I scan them, do a little thing or two in Photoshop, and then I make prints.

01:49So these are the originals, and these are the prints.

01:52Works like these, drawn during the day-to-day, align with the fair's mission of encouraging attendees

01:58to unplug their brains, forget and create, and then connect with like-minded dreamers.

02:05Because I think as a creator, creators are very lonely.

02:09Yeah, you draw these or you paint these, and these are stories that you've made up,

02:14and you need audience, yeah, to be on your side or to understand you.

02:21Thousands of people attended this year's Taipei Illustration Fair,

02:25proof that the combination of creativity and critters has a mass appeal.
