00:22Thailand has launched airstrikes against Cambodia, shattering a fragile peace plan that had been

00:27personally overseen by President Donald Trump just two months ago.

00:34The fighting broke out early Monday along the country's long-disputed border, an area

00:40that has seen frequent tensions, but rarely on this scale.

00:45Both governments accused the other of firing first.

00:49Thailand's Air Force says its jets struck military-only targets, weapons depots, command

00:55centers, and supply routes it claims posed a direct threat.

01:01According to Thai officials, Cambodia had moved heavy weapons and combat units into the contested

01:08zone, raising fears of a wider escalation.

01:13A senior Thai military spokesperson says the airstrikes were launched in retaliation for

01:19an earlier Cambodian Akak that killed one Thai soldier and wounded two others.

01:25He described the targets as Cambodian artillery and mortar positions used to strike a Thai base

01:31at dawn.

01:33But Cambodia strongly denies provoking the clashes.

01:37In a statement, its defense ministry called Thailand's claims false information, insisting Phan Pen has been

01:44exercising restraint and honoring previous agreements.

01:50Cambodian forces, for their part, accused the Thai army of launching an unprovoked attack

01:56after days of what they described as Thai provocations.

02:01On the ground, the fallout has been immediate.

02:05Thailand says around 70 percent of civilians living near the border have now been evacuated.

02:11One evacuee died during the process, reportedly from a pre-existing medical condition.

02:17This is not the first violent confrontation between the neighbors.

02:21In July, Thailand and Cambodia fought a five-day border conflict that killed dozens and displaced

02:27hundreds of thousands.

02:30At the time, President Trump brokered a ceasefire by phone, calling it a major diplomatic win.

02:37A more detailed expanded ceasefire was signed in October in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by Trump

02:43and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

02:46But within two weeks, the deal began to unravel.

02:51Thailand suspended its participation after a landmine blast injured several of its soldiers.

02:57Now, with renewed airstrikes, accusations and rising civilian displacement, that peace plan

03:04appears to be collapsing entirely.

03:07And the border, long one of Southeast Asia's most volatile fault lines, has once again become

03:13a dangerous flashpoint.

03:16Regional observers warn that if both sides don't pull back quickly, this could spiral into the

03:21most serious conflict between Thailand and Cambodia in more than a decade.
