00:00And sooner or later, things do tend to break down,
00:03with your RV's spotless exterior often being the first casualty.
00:09Exposed to the elements, your rig is at the mercy of the sun that doesn't care much for
00:14its appearance as it slowly cooks the finish, oxidizing, fading, and turning that smooth
00:20gel coat into a cracked, crumbly crust. Out here, campsites under the prettiest pines
00:28come with sticky souvenirs of sap and resin, while every mile adds a fresh layer of road grime
00:36that ruthlessly chips away at paint, metal, and any potential resale value.
00:43Although traditional waxes and sealants offer a temporary solution to preserving an RV's packaging,
00:49a custom ceramic coating acts more like a permanent force field for trailers that like looking good
00:56while they travel. And so far, the best professional-grade protection we've seen
01:01comes from a brand highly sought after for their lasting, durable defense
01:06against anything sabotaging a smooth, shiny surface.
01:20and the best professional-grade protection we've seen before.
01:23So, let's get started.
01:29My name is Briston Lowell, and I'm one of the owners here at Master Applied Coatings,
01:36also known as MAC, and we specialize in a permanent ceramic coating.
01:53We mostly started out in Airstreams, and we've moved more into fifth wheels and Class A RVs,
02:01and now we're getting more into boats and motorcycles and pretty much all kinds of vehicles.
02:07Currently, we have three locations for MAC. We have one in Tallahassee, Florida. We have another one in
02:12Dallas, and currently I'm in the new Dallas facility. And then we have one in Sacramento, California.
02:19All of our facilities are a pet-friendly facility, so feel free to bring your dogs. We love dogs. We have
02:25a few shop dogs ourselves, so feel free to bring them by. Both a beauty treatment and a body armor,
02:32this category of ceramic doesn't just make your ride look amazing. It keeps it that way by introducing
02:39a thicker, harder layer atop the existing clear coat. This custom shield locks in shine and blocks
02:46out acidic bugs and bird droppings that no longer stick around to vandalize the veneer,
02:53as cleanup becomes just a splash of water along this slick shell. A high-tech formula that stays put no
03:02matter how rough the road gets. Our ceramic coating is a proprietary formula that's made here in the US,
03:10and we work directly with the chemists so, you know, if something changes in the air, you know,
03:14the humidity is different, temperature is different, we can always make adjustments very quickly to
03:20fit what we need at any of our locations. And it has a lot of UV resistance. It has a 9H hardness on
03:28the Mohs scale, so it's harder to actually scratch itself. A lot of things don't actually stick to it.
03:34It's very hydrophobic, so it repels a lot of the water, too. You don't have to wax your trailer anymore,
03:40which is great. You know, it's time-consuming to have to wax, but the main thing is protection from the
03:44elements, protection from sun damage, you know, mostly on those Class As and, you know, the gel coat
03:49finishes, protection from oxidation, you know, from the aluminum on, let's say, an Airstream. Most other
03:56ones you're going to find are maybe three to five years, and you have to come back and get a booster
04:01every year. Ours is not like that. And so it's all in the chemistry of it. The way that it actually bonds
04:07to the clear coat is different. You know, it's the reason we can call it permanent. We're the first ever
04:12permanent ceramic coating on the market. What that does mean is the actual chemical bond it's making,
04:19we don't expect it to just fell or come off of the surface of your RV. You know, it's permanently
04:25bonded to it. You know, if that happens to give it out or there's something failing underneath it,
04:29then the ceramic doesn't have anything to hold on to anymore. A really good example is a gel coat surface.
04:34They fill very fast, and if they have really bad oxidation and chalkiness to them, then our ceramic
04:39on top of that is not going to hold on. It's going to fall off with the foundation. So it doesn't mean
04:44lifetime. It doesn't mean forever. It means, you know, as long as your foundation is still intact.
04:54Given this process is a preventative measure, the earlier you coat your RV, the quicker it can deflect
05:00heat waves, salt, sand, and gravel scars before they ever show up. Preserving that factory fresh finish
05:09prior to environmental damage is best. But if you've already logged some miles, MAC can still throw down
05:16a layer of serious resistance for all those adventures to come. The RVers is made possible by
05:26Jackery Solar Generator, your green power solution. Your dream RV trip awaits. Call Fantasy RV Tours
05:34today. The RVers is made possible by now you see it. Now you don't. Segway.
05:49The ideal time to bring in for the ceramic coating is when it's brand new. So the best way to think of
05:56it is that our going through our process and the ceramic coating isn't necessarily to fix the damage that
06:01you already have. It's mostly to help prevent future damage that's going to happen. And so if we come in
06:06brand new, you know, you don't have damage and it's going to help prevent it from from happening in the
06:11first place. But, you know, if it is older and it still looks great, then, you know, it's also a good
06:16time to bring it in. So as far as the process goes for when your RV comes in, time-wise, you're going to
06:22either drop off Monday and pick up Wednesday, or you're going to drop off Wednesday and pick up Friday.
06:27So it's three day blocks, two nights. So the steps of the ceramic coating are first, we wash the
06:36trailer. So you don't have to get it washed in advance or anything like that. You can have it as
06:39filtered as you want. We'll use a pressure washer with the foam cannon, and then we will use deionized
06:44water to help with water spots. And then after that, we will go into removing any stickers you want off,
06:50not necessarily decals, but, you know, factory stickers, personal stickers you might have put on there.
06:56And then following that step is where we'll get into doing our polishing. And then after that,
07:01we will then go over the whole thing with a IPA. For us, it's usually about a 70% IPA, and that will
07:08then sterilize the whole surface and clean off any other residue that's on there and make sure it's,
07:14you know, a neutral surface, no MR acids on it. So that way, you know, when we do our ceramic next,
07:20it will bond properly to it. When we get into our ceramic application, it is a hand-applied
07:27process. And it is everything from the roof line, so not the roof itself, but the roof line,
07:33all the way to the bottom, not the undercarriage. And in between that, you know, all of the plastics,
07:39all the metals, all of the glass, you know, the solar panels can be coated, all of that's going to get
07:44done. But the glass surfaces, such as like the windows and the timber glass and the solar panels,
07:49it is a one-to-two-year coating that goes on a little bit different foaming formula,
07:54but it's not our permanent coating on those surfaces. Following the application,
07:59cleaning is still recommended, but no longer the chore it once was. Although dirt and debris continue to
08:06make an appearance, the biggest difference is in how quickly they disappear. With a simple rinse that
08:12easily takes off the road rash and puts back the sparkle. The number one thing that I hear people
08:18talk about most afterwards is how clean their RV looks after not washing it. So some people go a
08:25month, six months, even a year without washing it, and they might hit a little bit of rain or something,
08:30and it looks almost brand new still. For the diligent team at Master Applied Coatings,
08:37working with RVers isn't just about reinforcing their rigs, as every series of scuffs and scratches
08:43comes with tales from countless road trips or daring detours. And while buffing out the damage
08:50removes these reminders, it also marks the start of a new chapter for future memories protected by a
08:57resilient suit of armor, making Mac a lasting part of the RVing story.
09:02So my favorite part about being an owner in this company is all of the people I get to work with,
09:10you know, as far as the employees, but also, you know, all the customers that come in, you know,
09:14hearing their stories, where they've been, where they're gonna go, you know, everything that's
09:18happened with their RV. That's the best part about this job. So if anybody's interested in possibly
09:25getting an inquiry or a quote for their RV, they can contact us through our website. It's
09:30MasterAppliedCoatings.com. Otherwise, you can give us a call, we'd be happy to answer at any of our
09:35locations. And we can talk about your RV, we can talk about the age of it, what needs to be done to
09:40it. And we can kind of go from there.
09:53The RVers is made possible by RV and Go. Where will you go?
10:01Escapees RV Club, a support network for all RVers.
10:05The RVers is made possible by I found my place.
10:14And Master Applied Coatings.
10:20Before the miles start to accumulate or any renovations get made, life on the road is preceded
10:26by a quiet revelation that suggests there might be another way to live.
10:32The McLaughlins decided to explore their options with a journey that would take them
10:37far beyond the edges of convention. They launched into RVing with completely no experience,
10:43in a recycled Salem Cobra that was just good enough to convince them of a life on wheels.
10:50And it got the job done. From humble beginnings to living with intention,
10:56this is how one motivated family reimagined what home could be.
11:03I'm Adam. I'm Celine. I'm Joel and I'm 10.
11:07I'm Zachary and I'm 8. I'm Ian and I'm 6.
11:11September 2017, we lived on the west coast of Florida. Hurricane Irma was coming through
11:16and it was supposed to go up the east coast and within a couple days it shifted to come up the west
11:20coast right through where we lived and at the time it was supposed to be a category five which is
11:24catastrophic. And so I called Celine at two o'clock that afternoon and I said I'm coming home
11:32from work early. I want you to pack everything that matters to you in Rubbermaid totes. We're
11:38going to leave it in our condo. I want you to get the boys ready, pack their overnight bags. We're
11:42going to Canada to my parents house tonight. And at that point in time I thought to myself,
11:47if I have everything that matters to me in my car right now, then why couldn't we hit the road?
11:54Why couldn't we live in a travel trailer? You know, my family and my coffee and my laptop. And I was
12:01all set. That was everything that mattered to me. Why couldn't we hit the road? That was the tipping
12:06point for me that I went from can we do this to yes, we have to do this. It was a little bit
12:13nerve wracking in the beginning, though, to realize what are we really getting ourselves
12:18into when we have no experience at all. But we're both pretty adventurous, so we were up for the
12:23challenge. Celine was pretty picky. She said, I'm not leaving this first campsite until I have running
12:28water in the kitchen. And I'm just thinking like, let's live a little here. Let's treat this like an
12:34adventure. Definitely with an older trailer, it was a bit trickier to learn some things and what was
12:41missing in the trailer. But we didn't give ourselves very much time at all. Yeah, well, we bought a 1992
12:48trailer because we wanted to renovate it. We didn't want a payment every month. We wanted to pay cash.
12:53And so one of the first things we did was we painted everything. We painted all the walls. We
12:58painted all the cabinets. We replaced the flooring so it didn't look like vinyl from 1992. And we redid
13:05all the fabrics. We recovered them all. So it kind of felt like our space, you know, even though we
13:11weren't buying it new, it felt fresh for us. Yeah, we really wanted the boys to feel like even though
13:16we were moving into such a tiny space, they really had their own areas in the trailer. We weren't
13:22setting up and tearing down their bed every night. And we allowed them to pick and choose what they
13:27wanted in their space just to make it their own and and feel like that was actually their own little
13:32bedroom. Yeah. And what I like about my bed is my stuffies are colorful. While the living quarters got
13:42smaller, the flavors produced in the kitchen could not be downsized. As the culinary engine of the
13:48family, Celine found ways to adapt without compromising her love of making meals from scratch. Serving up
13:56sweet treats straight out of the oven and whipping up fragrant dinners in the crock pot, mom's homemade
14:03food remains a steady source of comfort no matter where they make camp.
14:11Mommy does cooking and I sometimes help with the cooking. And she makes cookies, bread, brownies,
14:19pretty much everything. I help mommy make cookies and brownies. She can make brownies, she can make
14:25cookies, pizza. You know, one of the first thing we talk about is that possible in the trailer,
14:30right? So we had to figure out and we had to decide what do we need and what can we leave behind spaces.
14:35Obviously a constraint. Right away, we really made sure our trailer had a sufficient amount of storage
14:41space. But I did tell Adam right off the bat that if we were traveling, my stand mixer was not going to
14:47be staying behind. And we both agreed that was part of our lifestyle with the way I cook and make
14:52everything fresh for us. But we find it's really not much different than cooking in a regular kitchen.
14:58It's just cozier. Yeah. I might sometimes have to kick the kids out of the trailer while I'm cooking
15:05because I literally take over half the trailer, but they believe it's worth it because of what they
15:11get to eat after. Oh, it's worth it. The RVers is made possible by RV and Go. Where will you go?
15:24Your dream RV trip awaits. Call Fantasy RV Tours today. The RVers is made possible by... Now you see it.
15:32Now you don't. The Aviators, the world's biggest aviation series.
15:42Besides their shared sense of exploration and carefree sense of humor, the family also connects
15:49by road schooling across the map. When traveling, geography lessons happen in real time and the
15:56classroom transforms with the surroundings. Wildlife hikes, museum pit stops and road trip reading
16:04sessions have taught the boys that education isn't confined to four walls but scattered throughout
16:10every place they visit. I'm in sixth grade. Zach is in third grade. Ian, you are in? Kindergarten.
16:22It's so much fun teaching the kids as we go to different places. There's no better education in
16:28teaching them the history of an area and then getting to actually experience that place.
16:33We've realized now that there's so much opportunity outside of books for them to learn and so we do
16:44purchase memberships to science centers and national parks and we have those passes so that we can have
16:51the opportunity for them to learn outside of just books and that's really made a difference for us
16:57because it's so much more than just working in a textbook. It's seeing the world and learning from
17:04those experiences. And on our travel days we encourage them to do a lot of reading in the car but they
17:11also get some down time with watching movies and we make a lot of stops while we're on the road and find
17:18little places to explore on the way but a lot of the time the adventure is really in just going somewhere
17:24we haven't been before and once we get there just setting out on our own to explore and see what we
17:29find on our own. I really like Drumheller in Alberta. I like America. I like Big Bend National Park because
17:43that was the only national park where I could actually convince daddy to climb a mountain that was
17:50five miles each way up and down. There's actually like no path like it's pretty much just rock and you
17:57have to like climb up a lot. And of course Celine's like daddy would love to do that with you Joel
18:06and so Joel was out on this hunt to go up Emory Peak like as if that's a fair trade right like I'm doing a
18:12seven hour hike and then I run into a bear and I get home and they're doing glitter glue and baking
18:18brownies. Next time I'm staying home to do glitter glue and brownies we'll send Celine up the mountain.
18:24Yes. For the McLaughlins RVing isn't just a break from real life it is real life with a rhythm that's
18:32ever-changing and a backyard that fluctuates every few weeks. But inside their RV there's comfort,
18:40routine and a deep sense of togetherness that will never waver. Proof that a stable home
18:47doesn't have to stay in just one place. RVing is really fun because you get to go to new places
18:56every day like every day there's new things to do new things to see and almost all of the time that
19:04we've been traveling at every campground we found friends to play with or things to do at the campground.
19:10And we met a friend on the day before today. They have Pokemon cards and they like to train with us.
19:21And it's really fun because you get to see all the places like you can go everywhere and see all these
19:28cool national parks and climb mountains when regularly when we lived in Florida it was just the same thing
19:35every day. Do you want to go to the Imaginarium? Do you want to go to the Library? Do you want to go to
19:40the Science Center? Do you want to do this? And when we travel you can hike, you can see nature,
19:48there's beautiful sunsets, waterfalls most of the time. So we pretty much are not doing the same
19:55things over and over and over. It's really fun. I love it.
20:00and I'll see you there.
20:01You can see.
20:03It's really fun.
20:05It's really fun.
20:06It's really fun.
20:07But it's the same thing.
20:08It's really fun.
20:10But it's really fun.
20:11It's really fun.
20:12Yeah, it's fun.
