00:00Pundalika Khumbra, a disabled potter from Dukarwadi in Bela Gavi's Khaanapura Taluk, Karnataka,
00:15has revived his family's traditional pottery craft into a successful business despite physical
00:21challenges. In 2020, he turned down a government teaching job to focus on creating a business
00:29innovative clay products like decorative items, idols and masks. His products now sell
00:37across India and abroad to places like Nepal, China, Germany and the US. From items like
00:44water pitchers to those defining modern lifestyle, he ensures that his customers get everything.
00:51He has a range of 400 items costing between Rs. 15 to Rs. 20,000.
00:57Earlier, I was struggling to even afford food. My parents raised me with hard work. Now,
01:04I have become financially self-reliant and I have helped others as well. I am not doing
01:10this work for the sake of awards. My goal is to further strengthen the potter community
01:15financially. I have a great desire to expand our business across the country by making
01:20exciting items with new designs. I will employ more than 500 people.
01:26From an initial income of Rs. 15,000, his income is now almost Rs. 3 lakh per month.
01:33He has employed 25 persons in his village, paying them a minimum salary of Rs. 15,000 per month.
01:40Our ancestors used to make only one kind of pot. Pundalika has taught us to make various decorative
01:48artworks. The idols of Narsimha and Kantara Devi of Hampi are some of the most attractive works
01:55of art created by Pundalika. There is also a great demand for the colorful coins made by him.
02:03His determination has earned him local acclaim as an inspiring entrepreneur, generating
02:10employment and showcasing Kanapura's pottery heritage.
02:15I am Pundalika Kumar Ravnon from 2015 onwards. He is a very hard working man, although he is
02:23a little bit handicapped, but he works very hard. He starts his work at 8 o'clock in the morning.
02:28In the afternoon he doesn't have much food, light food he has, and he works till 12 o'clock in the
02:33night. I have seen him coming up in life, working very hard, and he is an inspiration to all of us.
02:41Pundalika is a recipient of several awards including Belagavi District Level Shram Samman,
02:46Kamla Devi Chattopadhyay Vishwakarma State Level Award, Rotary Vocational Excellence Award,
02:52Craft Council of Telangana Award, Captain Abha Patil Foundation Divyang Vocational Award,
02:57and Physically Challenged Award from the Lok Priya Janaseva Sanstha of Belagavi.
