00:00This year's Doha Forum kicked off with a clear message.
00:03Justice in action isn't just a theme, it's a challenge.
00:07And right from the opening ceremony, you could sense the urgency
00:09to turn big ideas into real-world results.
00:14One of the biggest issues on the table,
00:16the growing divide between the global north and south.
00:19The Forum's Executive Director, Mubarak Ajlan Al-Khawari,
00:22told Euro News that many of today's inequalities
00:24stem from systems built without everyone at the table.
00:27And leaders here say that has to change.
00:30And Microsoft founder and Gates Foundation Chair Bill Gates
00:33added that despite the many challenges ahead,
00:36humans are natural problem solvers, we just need the right tools.
00:40This will be the generation that can solve childhood death.
00:46It can eradicate poverty, it can eradicate polio,
00:50and it can bring down over 95% diseases like malaria, HIV, and AIDS.
00:58We should not stop with the progress we've made.
01:01Together we can save the lives of millions of children
01:05and empower them, empower them to make great contributions.
01:09And over the next two days, we're expecting some major announcements,
01:13new partnerships, fresh funding, and long-term plans.
01:16And all with the same goal, moving past promises
01:19and putting justice to action.
01:22Abel Halim, Euronews, Doha.
01:24Yesterday, the Trump administration mentioned
01:29in their national security advisory,
01:32they mentioned Europe in decline,
01:34and they also called about to cultivate resistance
01:37to Europe's current trajectory.
01:39What do you say to this?
01:41Well, let's focus on the things that we can do together.
01:45I mean, what we can take from that security strategy
01:48is that we are still, you know, allies with America.
01:53We don't always see eye to eye on everything,
01:56but it's our internal matters we can handle ourselves.
01:59Let's focus on the global challenges that we actually have,
02:02which are, you know, economic cursive practices from China
02:05that we are both, you know, faced with,
02:08which is the threat that comes from malign actors
02:11like Russia, like China, like Iran.
02:15So we definitely need to focus on what we can do together
02:19and, you know, domestic issues.
02:22Let us let them be our domestic issues.
02:25Did that come as a surprise, though, to hear that tone?
02:28Well, we have heard that before,
02:31so this is clear,
02:34and this is the way the current administration sees
02:39the things evolving.
02:41I think it's important that we stay on the course
02:45and that we have our own strategies in place
02:48and we need to follow them.
02:50And if you could just speak on the Qatar-EU launch negotiations,
02:53the strategic partnership,
02:54tell us more about this and the objectives.
02:55We see Qatar's growing role in the Middle East as well.
03:01I mean, all the international mediation that they're doing
03:05when it comes to Sudan, but also Gaza,
03:10also Ukrainian children, for example,
03:12or the Great Lakes.
03:13So we see that we have a lot of things where we can work together.
03:19Of course, not only on peace and security matters,
03:22but also other matters like trade, economic relations,
03:27innovation, technology that we can build up.
03:30Just building on that last question is that Qatar has also been involved
03:33in the hostage negotiations, hostage releases.
03:35How do you see the role with the EU thing out as well?
03:39Continue.
03:40Well, as I've said,
03:43I really commend Qatar's role in this.
03:47I mean, it is clear in this world
03:50where we have more wars than ever before,
03:54like 60 wars and conflicts going around in the world,
03:57we need all the mediation we can get.
03:59And definitely, we have different strengths
04:03when it comes to Qatar or when it comes to the European Union.
04:06And we can work together.
04:08What we are good at is building the sustainable peace,
04:12because it's not only the peace treaty,
04:14but it's actually how to come
04:16so that it's also the whole of society approach
04:20that actually the society owns this.
04:22We want to move from the atrocities
04:24that both committed to the place
04:27where this never happens again.
04:28So forgetting about the understanding of different pasts
04:34and focusing on a common future.
