00:00Indian authorities have launched an investigation after a fire ripped through a nightclub in the

00:08western state of Goa, killing 25 people. Six others were injured and are in stable condition,

00:15receiving medical care. Police were alerted to the blaze at the birch by Romeo Lane Club

00:20at 12.04 a.m.

00:30There was information in the police room that there was a fire incident. And immediately

00:38the police, the fire brigade and the ambulance were alerted. So the fire is under control and

00:45the dead bodies were removed from there.

00:48Among the deceased, four were tourists and 14 were club staff. One tourist, who narrowly

00:54escaped, described the confusion when they first noticed smoke.

00:59The moment we came here, so we thought why there is pollution here because we are used

01:05to seeing smoke everywhere. So we thought it's not normal. So after some time we got to know

01:13there has been a fire. So we thought actually we got lucky because our cab driver was late

01:20or else we would be here.

01:22Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said he has ordered a magisterial inquiry to determine the

01:27cause of the fire and assign responsibility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences

01:33to the families and announced that his office would provide 200,000 rupees to each family

01:40of the victims and 50,000 rupees to the injured. Goa, a small coastal state popular with foreign

01:47tourists is known for its beaches and hilly landscapes.
