02:01You were sure tonight?
02:02Tomorrow.
02:03It's a pretty long walk to the logging camp.
02:05I think I'll pack my camera.
02:07You might make some money with it if they print your pictures with my story.
02:09What's the gunfire, isn't it?
02:16Hunter's probably.
02:17A lot of game in these woods.
02:19Well, come on.
02:21Dinner in an early bed.
02:22William?
02:23William?
02:24William?
02:24William?
03:26All you have to do is to ask.
03:28Well, that's mighty kind of it.
03:30Thanks.
03:32Well, you all right?
03:35Yeah, it's not mine.
03:37Oh?
03:38From a deer.
03:40You got a deer and yet you're hungry?
03:44Can I sleep here tonight?
03:47All right.
03:49There's no more sneaking around this boat.
03:56You can sleep in one of these boats.
04:06Thanks, mister.
04:07Good morning.
04:22I'm looking for someone.
04:23Old fellow, bearded.
04:24What for?
04:25Never you mind about that.
04:27Have you seen him?
04:28When you're around here, we don't get many visitors.
04:30What's it about?
04:32None of your business.
04:33Just this old fellow's in a mess of trouble, that's all.
04:35Breakfast is ready.
04:39Sorry we can't help you.
04:40One extra ham and eggs for breakfast.
04:53We have a visit, though.
04:54All right, Jack.
04:55What is it, Jack?
05:24He's a stranger.
05:27He must have been frightened.
05:29He's gone off in such a hurry he's left his rifle.
05:32Maybe they'll know more about him up at the forestry camp.
05:35Maybe.
05:48How much closer to the camp?
05:50About a mile or ten.
05:54Yeah, probably.
06:09There it is again.
06:11Yes.
06:18Drop your gun.
06:19Get your hands up, both of you.
06:37Keep still.
06:39Ben, get his gun.
06:40It's yours all right, Charlie.
06:48You bet it is.
06:50Did the old man leave it on board?
06:52I guess he must have.
06:54So you lied to me.
06:55You're very brave with three guns to back you.
07:04You told me the old man wasn't on your boat.
07:06I told you no such thing.
07:07I just didn't answer your questions.
07:09Where were you going with that gun, then?
07:10I was coming to try to find the owner.
07:15Well, you found him.
07:17What did the old man come to see you about?
07:19He came for food.
07:20He was dead tired.
07:21I gave him a bunk, but he vanished.
07:24Look, I'm Dan Wells of the Seaspray.
07:25You can check with the boss of the forestry camp.
07:27He'll vouch for me.
07:28What would his name be?
07:31Mullins.
07:32John Mullins.
07:33Yes, I can fight for Captain Wold.
07:35You say this old man left the gun on the boat.
07:38Don't ask me why.
07:39Ask me.
07:39Somehow they're in cahoots.
07:41I just gave him food.
07:42A nut.
07:43That's what we've got skulking around this camp.
07:44A nut.
07:45Why don't we organize the men and get him?
07:47Now, look, Charlie.
07:47In company time, you cut trees.
07:49In your own time, you can shoot deer.
07:50But in nobody's time, do you shoot people.
07:52I'm not here to dodge bullets, either.
07:53This is a job for the police, not you.
07:55Hey, Mr Mullins.
07:57There's a thief in the house.
07:58I got him locked in.
08:03He went off the back way.
08:14Let's get our guns and get him.
08:25Where's your rifle?
08:26Stole it.
08:27All right, men.
08:28Spread out.
08:28Spread out.
08:33Hey, keep back, if I were you.
08:49There he is.
08:50There he is.
08:50There he is.
09:20There he is.
09:42No.
09:44You crazy fool.
09:48You want the same?
09:50Come on.
09:51Come on.
10:10Come on.
10:14Come on.
12:19I'll fix you, mister.
12:20You wait.
12:49Why all the guns?
12:53The place is like an arsenal.
12:54What's more, we supply all their ammunition free.
12:57Why?
12:57Start deer.
12:58Deer?
12:59They rub their antlers against the bark as the trees die.
13:02We plant young trees to replace the timber we've cut, and they eat it up.
13:06So you slaughter them?
13:07Forestry, as I love you with.
13:08The deer is the enemy.
13:10Good morning.
13:10My daughter Sue, Mr. Mullins.
13:13William, my crew member.
13:14How do you do?
13:15Hello.
13:17Why are we down, Dad?
13:19Dear hunting.
13:20Would you like to come along?
13:21No, thank you.
13:23Dad, he's bringing them up soft.
13:25We'll just take a lift into town with you if we may.
13:26Sure.
13:50What is it?
13:51I've just spotted some deer.
13:53Listen.
13:54You hear that?
13:55There's no stag, sir.
13:56Ain't human.
13:58All you have to do is turn your head away and shut your eyes.
14:00Don't be too frightened of the bane bane's.
14:05You know what, sis?
14:06When we get up there, you take the last way.
14:07You ever stalked a tiger?
14:09A man-eater?
14:09Huh?
14:10And have the wind change so he gets your scent?
14:12My father has in India.
14:14Takes more gunsham than running down deer.
14:17Hey, look.
14:18Oh, well, I winged him anyway.
14:29Come on, let's go.
14:33You wounded it.
14:34Are you going to let it go at that?
14:35What are you, the Red Cross?
14:37You can't just leave it to stop her.
14:39I can.
14:49You stay with Mr. Mullins.
14:58He's as nuts as the old man, this guy.
15:00Oh, leave him alone, Charlie.
15:02He let that man for a new shot of this guy away, didn't he?
15:04No, he's acting strange.
15:05I'm going after him.
15:06Now, which way did he go?
15:34You try up there.
15:55You go that way.
15:56Hold it.
16:14Now, where are you going now?
16:16To find out something.
16:18What?
16:19Why your guns are being stolen.
16:20Why you're being shot at.
16:22Yeah.
16:23You're in cahoots with him.
16:24You can believe what you want.
16:28I'll tell you what.
16:29We're both going to find him.
16:31You're going to take me there.
16:33I don't know where he is or what he's up to.
16:35We'll try the generator area.
16:37He usually hangs out there.
16:38Let's find out.
16:40Go on.
16:40Come on.
16:56Come on.
16:56Come on.
16:58Come on.
16:58Come on.
18:35Listen!
18:37I'm not armed!
18:40I want to talk to you!
18:42I want to talk to you!
19:12Remember me?
19:18Why did you shoot at those men?
19:19They're killing God's creatures.
19:21The deer?
19:22That's right.
19:23How would they feel being shot at?
19:26Nothing to defend themselves with.
19:28Just running and running and dying.
19:31They kill us, all of them.
19:32They say the deer are ruining the forest.
19:34Those forests?
19:36And those are ruining it.
19:37The deer or the timber men?
19:38All right, then.
19:39Spread out.
19:41If they catch you here, they'll kill you.
19:43Where's your hideout?
19:45Which way?
19:45Deer.
19:46Deer.
19:46I brought him here.
19:51Deer, a tame deer
20:03I brought him here, you see him?
20:06We've got to get you out of here
20:07I'm not leaving my animals
20:09If you get killed, let's save them
20:11I'll drive them into cover
20:12Okay, I've got a shelter from them trees
20:16Where were you when I needed you?
20:46I'm going to get him
20:54How did you get those deer up here?
20:56I've lived in the forest all my life
20:58I should know enough about calling them
21:00Then that call we heard was you
21:01This is not a safe place anymore
21:04They'll track you up here
21:05You've got to move on
21:06No
21:07Look, I've got to get you out of here
21:09There's no place left for me to go
21:11Or the deer
21:12All right
21:13Where are you going?
21:16I'm going to draw them off to somewhere else
21:18Get back in there
21:24Don't try anything
21:31Get outside so we'll get a good look at you
21:36Leave him alone
21:37Keep out of it
21:38I told you he's harmless
21:39He just tried to warn you off
21:41Are you crazy?
21:42He tried to kill me and Seth and Ben
21:44I'm going to give him the same chance that he gave us
21:47Get going
21:48All right
22:08Get going
22:09Go ahead and shoot
22:11But I'm not moving
22:12Why don't you run?
22:14Are you scared?
22:15Why don't you run so I can
22:16If you're rich and they shoot me
22:20Do it from there
22:21All right
22:22If that's the way you want it
22:24It's him that's running
22:34Am I?
22:36All right
22:36I'll show you
22:37All right
22:41All right
22:41Get up.
23:11You think he's a killer?
23:36He's trying to save life, but dear.
23:38I'll be gonna shoot him, but there'll be no for us to cut.
23:40Well, he can call them faster than you can kill them.
23:43He'll keep your deer down.
23:45Ah.
23:48By making a sanctuary for them up here.
23:51Away from the timber you cut.
23:53What do you think I bought that rifle for? For fun?
23:55That's right. For fun. To kill with.
23:57Let him be your hunter.
24:02His way.
24:04What do you say?
24:06We could give it a try.
24:08Who's asking for more?
24:10Yeah.
24:11Was it him that made all those noises we heard?
24:14That's right.
24:16The old man of the forest.
24:17Bye, Barney.
24:26You'll be all right now.
24:27Charlie's left the camp for good.
24:29Ah, thanks, Dan.
24:30Come and see us again sometime.
24:33We'll try.
24:35Cast off, will you?
24:36Thanks, Dan.
