*Golden Peak (Spantik) – the star of Hoper Valley*

- *Height & fame:* Also called _Spantik_, it soars to *7,027 m (23,054 ft)* and is one of the highest peaks in the Nagar‑Hoper region of Gilgit‑Baltistan. Its golden‑hour glow makes it look literally golden, hence the nickname.  ¹ ² ³
- *Location:* It dominates the skyline of Hoper Valley, sitting right above the Hoper Glacier (sometimes called Hopar Glacier). The glacier itself feeds down from Spantik’s slopes, giving trekkers close‑up views of both ice and rock.  ⁴ ⁵
- *Trekkers’ hub:* The valley around Spantik serves as a *base camp* for expeditions heading into the Hispar Muztagh range. From here you can tackle neighboring giants like Bawalter Peak (7,126 m), Rush Peak (5,560 m), Miar Peak (7,257 m), and even glimpse K2, Passu, Diran, and Rakaposhi on clear days.  ² ³
- *Best time to soak it in:* *May‑September* offers accessible roads, clear glacier views, and vibrant green pastures, while sunrise/sunset turns the summit into that signature golden silhouette—perfect for photography.  ⁴ ⁶
- *What you’ll experience:* Besides the peak itself, the area boasts *Rush Lake* (4,694 m, second‑highest alpine lake in South Asia), lush orchards, traditional stone houses, and the chance to interact with Burushaski‑speaking locals who are known for their hospitality.  ¹ ⁴

*Quick tip:* If you’re planning a trek, consider a guided tour to navigate the glacier safely and learn about the local culture along the way.
