01:04welcome to Christmas in the country our Christmas display is what I would call a
01:11lot but I don't mean a lot in a bad way I mean a lot in a great way I'm loving the
01:16electrical baby we have so much fun putting this up we love to do it
01:25together that's what makes it so special we're gonna make another
01:28Christmas ball another Christmas ball we have to have some more in the trees okay
01:32first of all I'm the decorator I've got to have it just right you're the boss on
01:38the labor this is why I let you know what we need to do she usually comes to me
01:43and says I would like to have this can you build it for me I say yes I'm here to
01:50please and I love you for it we have a small farm here and anything we need new
01:57for the Christmas show we can just go out back in the pasture or in the shop and we
02:03can build anything we want the hanging balls are made out of the chicken wire we
02:08have a homemade bow which is made out of just fencing material the homemade stars
02:13on top of the roof are made out of rebar the rebar can make it straight you can
02:17make it curve you can do whatever you want to with it rebar rebar paint and
02:22glitter let's go get well right we put so much heart into this we do perfect to
02:32have Tonya come to this display to see everything we have done is basically a
02:37dream come true for us

03:39little bit made the hole a little bit bigger so we're going to see if you can put four balls

05:51The whole snowman arch is definitely a first.
05:54It takes you all the way down this path.

06:03Every section is 10 foot long.
06:05Almost 100 feet long.
06:07So it's PVC pipe, and it's rebar stakes in there to hold it.
06:11Holding it down?
06:12They slide over, and it goes up, and then we screw it with a cross.
06:15Well, I'm really impressed with how nice it goes straight all the way down without sagging.
06:21And these trees, they're so cute.
06:23I'm like an official Christmas tree hugger.
06:26And I love the lights, the way they're perfectly lined up.
06:30And we have a homemade bow that is made out of fencing material.

06:35We got a little piece of fence just to show you.
06:37This is what you use to actually make a bow.
06:40Because it rolls up nice and easy.
06:42You can roll and wrap the lights, and it holds its position.
06:45Genius!
06:46Kenneth made those stars up there, and they're made out of rebar.
06:50It is one 20-foot piece, and then I heat it up and bend it.
06:54I can barely hand drop a perfect start, yet you've managed to bend rebar.

07:05I wanted to show you these here.

07:08We call these the kinney canes.
07:10So these are a piece of rebar.
07:12Stop it right now!
07:13Yes.
07:14Who has ever put glitter on rebar before?
07:18They're easy to make, but if you have an anvil, it's easier to hit them, to bend them,
07:22to get the curvature that you need.
07:24So an anvil, basically, it helps you bend the rebar.
07:28It's set on a stand, and you can pound on it.
07:31And he put glitter on them!
07:32Yeah, I know!
07:33Penny, you have quite literally raised the rebar on them.
07:38That's amazing!
07:39I love it!
07:47Now this is a cool mega tree, and it's wrapped so tightly with lights.
07:51There's, like, close to 15,000 lights on this one tree.
07:56It was a basketball goal for the base.
07:59We extended it up.
08:00I welded a two-inch flange on the top, and then welded washers on the rebar at an angle,
08:07so the rebars would come out.
08:09You have a very tight relationship with rebar.
08:11I think it's only fitting that we talk about the great big reindeer in the room.

08:23This guy is 27 foot tall.

10:17It weighs about 500 pounds, but it comes apart in pieces.

12:06Lunar Family Lights, it's a synchronized pixel light show with over 120,000 individual pixels placed
12:15throughout the display.
12:20With the LED panels, you add those in, we're over 1.3 million channels of light.
12:25Just like somebody flicking a light switch every second.
12:28His birthday present to himself is putting up Christmas lights in the summer.
12:32It's pretty crazy, but hey, you know, why not?

12:37Basically, I'm a support team.
12:39Whatever Brad needs help with, I'm happy to do it.
12:44I can use a power tool, and I'm pretty good with my hands.

12:52Out of the 250 sequences, these are the ones that we're going to run.
12:56I do all the programming.
12:58You got to tell the program exactly where every single light is in relation to the prop.
13:04DIY wise, I have the frame for our huge 17 and a half foot flake.
13:11I cemented that in the ground.
13:14We got some 3D printed mounts.
13:17He is willing to 3D print his own stuff, and I think that's really cool.
13:23I got at least 120 or 30 more of these to print.
13:27They take about an hour and a half each.
13:31I realize that's a lot of time.
13:33His attention to detail is unreal.
13:36He has such a love for not only the lights, but also the process of doing it,
13:42that it's mind-blowing.

16:57These arches are so amazing. It's just layers layers layers, but yes this candy cane is pretty much my height
17:06These are big. You're so many of them. Oh, yeah, there's 18. There's nine on each side
17:10I use half-inch mesh every single one of these rows. We mapped out inch by inch you are meticulous
17:17We put some PVC on the back two stacks of rebar and we pound them
17:22Three feet down and we put them in real good. Oh, and then that's so cool. And then you just slide them down. It's magic
17:28It's that simple jean. Yes
17:34I promise you've never seen these before these are three-foot tall blow mold
17:39So we love taking things that didn't have animated lighting and giving it new life
17:45Take the balls out
17:47Once again using my good friend PVCs and zip ties. Yes, every single zip tie is cut
17:52We don't leave the tails meticulous precision right there
17:55So you just put them right back on just like every light bulb perfect and that answers the question
18:00How many people does it take to change a light bulb?
18:02So we have our joy sign it's the first prop I did with pixels. Do you want to see the magic in the back?
18:13I really do actually I love that stuff watch your stuff. Yeah, so I just kind of wing this because I don't have these skills
18:21But you just kind of like dream it up all this we learn from just videos
18:26A lot of trial and error. You don't sleep the things you can achieve in life
18:36Coming over here, okay, so I lucked out and got some of this framing and added garden stakes to them
18:42Oh, and every arm had to have the exact same amount of lights for it to work. No, that's so cool
18:47I love that you got creative the garden stakes really gives us like sparkly rays of
18:53sunshine coming out of here, so I that was very clever
18:56So we have the framing and a million zip ties then we did a hundred and thirty pounds of concrete in each of these
19:02We're using 18 inch bikes in the ground
19:06Ratchet straps guy wires and if you notice this thing barely moves. Yeah last week. We just had 60 mile-per-hour winds and
19:14This is still standing it didn't fly didn't go anywhere. You could probably hang off that thing
19:18And it would be don't tempt me with a good time because I will I will
19:31Want to show you one of our seven pixel force through the beauty of technology with some servos
19:37We can actually animate this have it sing and dance with the music. Do you figure out how to make this whole thing?
19:43I had to figure out how to put it together and I can work and run the programming
19:47It's definitely leaves not a bald spot on the line
19:51I mean if you keep looking up I call it the mega flake because the seven and a half foot flake that used to be up there just wasn't big enough

20:13Snowflake there's forty five hundred lights in here. Wow. I got a whole trussing system that you know
20:18You'd see at a rock concert four by four inch beams in here concrete into the ground 40 inches
20:23I mean it looks awesome, but it's so worth it because when you stand on the street and you look at it
20:28It's a wow so if this wasn't enough one of the first show pieces we ever did was these arches
20:364800 lights added another
20:392256 in the driveway and staggered it level per level per level like it's blowing up into the matrix if we need to at nighttime
20:49What we do is we can easily pop these off?
20:52So that way we can drive through oh, yeah, well, I love the dynamics of everything. It's very cool

21:08So my stepdad George made this 20 some years ago for all the kids and the grandkids
21:13It's so nice he handcrafted a lot of stuff and of course we had to add some lights to it to
21:19Give it our own little flair. Unfortunately, he passed away two years ago
21:24He inspired me to do a display and
21:27It was tough. It was tough, but I know he's looking down because you could see it from there
21:35The fact that you have this is super meaningful and it really ties back to what the holiday season is all about
21:41It's about family as you guys are very big on I'd love to show you the inside

22:55We've been taking the last couple years and hand painting all of these
23:00You know what when you look at them up close, they're like puzzles that are put together
23:05Correct, which is incredible for all little itsy-bitsy pieces that were all hand-cut and jigsawed

23:28The Lunar family has a special family dynamic you can just tell being around them

23:45Just from the moment I walked up I felt goosebumps and it just got better and bigger
23:51I absolutely love the DIY
23:53But the part that really got me the most was the sentiment the fact that a lot of the influence is coming from your stepdad

24:34We're the clubhouse family and when it comes to Christmas lights, we're always on the nice list
24:44Let's just outline it all the way around
24:48Yeah, that'll work. I may not be crazy where I build a mass of things
24:54But everything that's out there has some part of DIY to it
24:58These are some of the handmade wood items that we made we put lights in them also these go all the way around the eaves of the house

25:13Alan does a lot of the outside display work. I do the painting and artistry
25:20There's the missus redoing part of the train that was old and cracked up
25:25We've been decorating over 36 years and every year we got a little more and a little more and a little more
25:32We're going crazy with lights, but then the madness started
25:36Here's the secret to our display
25:38A scroll with names on it
25:42Santa has a scroll with the names on it
25:44We started something like that many years ago
25:46We put our children's names the grandkids names and a lot of the neighborhood's names on scrolls and put them in the yard
25:53And now what happens every time a kid comes if their name isn't on a scroll we add it
26:00These are all the new names that we got last year
26:02I believe we had 320 to 330 new names
26:06Another 30 new scrolls
26:08Currently we have 2,295 names and I've written every single one
26:16It's only the beginning, right dear?

26:20Christmas means to me tradition
26:22I love to have traditions in the family that stay with you your whole life
26:26And I think we've created that with our display
26:28The kids get to come find their names year after year

30:30Basically, we have a wood scroll.

30:36So what we do is I take PVC three-quarter-inch pipe, a couple C-clamps screwed in.
30:41The lights are all siliconed all the way around the spot.

30:45And then what we do is drop the rebar in.
30:47Rebar is spaced every 13 inches around the yard.

32:40That's actually been in the window for about 20 years now.

33:14There's a little three-inch spring clip.

33:19The attention to detail is through the roof.

33:56And one of the kids said, I can't find my name.

34:07I said, we got something here.

34:11So what I did, I had the first-grade teacher give me their names.
34:14And next year, I had made scrolls.
34:17I put them out in the yard.
34:19The reaction, like God.

34:22I saw these kids jumping up and down, so happy.
