00:00If there is in fact a peace deal, first, what do you think the prospects of a peace deal are?
00:04And second, what does it change for Ryan Mattel if in, say, two weeks there is no longer a war?
00:09I wish that peace is coming in Ukraine because the Ukrainian people, but also the Russians, are suffering a lot in this area.
00:16War is really crazy.
00:19But I believe with all the discussions I hear, I'm not a politician and I have not the final information about that.
00:27But what I hear from the press is it will be hard that we get peace.
00:32And what does it change for Ryan Mattel if there were to be a peace agreement?
00:35Look, we are in negotiations with all the European and all the NATO partners at the moment with contracts.
00:42We signed a lot of contracts and we see absolutely zero impact about that because the Ukrainian business is a business,
00:51but it's still a small business in comparison to the rest of NATO.
00:58And if you see what we do, there is a possibility to make one billion with Ukraine, but that's it.
01:05And the rest is growing much faster.
01:07And also this discussion around Russian assets has been a very active one.
01:10Do you think that there will be a deal to touch that and get a reparations loan?
01:14And again, if they were to monetize those assets, what kind of difference would that make for Ryan Mattel, for your business?
01:19This is a political decision.
01:21It's very hard for industry to say something about that.
01:26But if there are reparations payments from the Russian side or if Europe can use the money, there will be an accelerator.
01:35It will not slow down.
01:36It will accelerate.
01:37We've heard a lot from politicians really since the beginning of the war.
01:40And we've heard a lot about this timeline that Europe needs to be prepared to defend itself basically in the next four years.
01:46Is Europe a continent that will be prepared to defend itself in the next four years, given what you've been seeing in terms of the order books and industry?
01:53Are they matching that need?
01:54We are in a good way, in a very good way.
01:57And you see what Ryan Mattel is doing at the moment.
02:00We are building up 13 factories, new factories or doubling or tripling the capacity of the factories.
02:08We are investing a lot of money and we are able really to grow up the numbers.
02:14If it is ammunitions, if it is vehicles, we prepare.
02:18Europe industry is prepared and the governments are also prepared because they spend the budget.
02:25And in terms of assessing kind of soberly what the Russians, for example, are good at doing, what Germany and the Europeans are good at doing, what is Russia better at than Europe?
02:34What is Ryan Mattel and Europe better at than Russia?
02:37And kind of how do you close that gap when you think about kind of the military capabilities that are required?
02:41In some areas, I think the Europeans or the NATO is much better prepared on technology-wise than Russia.
02:48Russia is producing higher numbers.
02:51And but if NATO and if the European countries are working together, we are very strong.
02:58And what we should do is prepare ourselves that nobody won't attack us.
03:04And I think that in order to achieve that, obviously, the scale of ambition has to be very large.
03:08I would say that Ryan Mattel has seems to have much higher ambitions than many of the other CEOs that I speak to within the industry.
03:15You're building the factories.
03:16A lot of other CEOs are a little bit more cautious in their approach.
03:19What accounts for that difference in Ryan Mattel trying to take advantage of that once in a generation opportunity?
03:24Why do you think you are prepared to do that in a way that your competitors are not?
03:28We believe that demand is high for the next 10, 15 years.
03:31And I'm not responsible for other companies, so I will speak not about other companies.
03:38But we believe that the way that we are doing that is absolutely the right way.
03:43We enable the governments that they can react very fast.
03:49We create capacities here in Europe, which are also able to produce a level of ammunitions,
03:57of tanks, of electronics, which is on a war level.
04:00Mm-hmm.
