'Mini tsunami' survivors hope for equal distribution of aid and public facilities
Heavy equipment and food supplies reach Aceh Tamiang in Indonesia's Aceh province as land access began to reopen following catastrophic floods and landslides last week that left over 800 dead and thousands displaced.
The death toll from cyclone-driven floods and landslides rose to 836, with hundreds still missing across West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh, government data showed.
Landslides have cut power and blocked roads, hampering rescue efforts. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency stated that efforts to repair infrastructure were ongoing alongside the delivery of aid by land, air, and sea.
Primary tasks include clearing roads, distributing essential supplies, and addressing critical needs such as public kitchens and medical facilities.
