00:00My eight-year-olds fell in love with Hamilton now.
00:03They sing Hamilton.
00:04And I'm driving to school the other day, and they're like,
00:06how does this whore run a bitch?
00:08And I'm like, oh, shit.
00:11It's all right.
00:12They're getting to that anyway, six months from now.
00:15They're learning history along the way.
00:17Exactly, man.
00:17Jay Kelly, so handsome.
00:20Look at you.
00:20You're the American dream.
00:22The last of the old movie stars.
00:24I'm down here.
00:25You're up there.
00:25You're down here.
00:26You're in here.
00:27We did this together.
00:28Hi, I'm Alex from NME, and today I'm joined by two of Hollywood's biggest heavyweights.
00:33It's George Clooney and Adam Sandler.
00:35How are we doing?
00:35We're talking about our weight.
00:38We're working on it.
00:40Metaphorically.
00:40Yeah.
00:41You've never worked on screen before together.
00:44That's right, isn't it?
00:45That was by decision.
00:47All right, yeah.
00:48This is a one and done.
00:49We did it.
00:50We finally gave in to it.
00:51Yeah, actually.
00:52And then midway, George said, never again.
00:55I said, let's finish this one.
00:56Yeah.
00:57And then we finished it, and we won't do it again.
01:00But we had, we have, we learned.
01:03But you have been friends for a long time.
01:06So what is one thing you learned about each other from working on this film?
01:10Very giving human being.
01:12Got to say, never met anybody who cared about other actors as much as George.
01:18George would...
01:19Would, would...
01:20He's smirking it.
01:21But he's very, very cool about...
01:24Was, we would do full scenes together, and he would just completely talk about my performance
01:30and what I would, mid-take, watch him and say, man, this guy is freaking good.
01:35And he never, ever can talk about how good he is.
01:40He's tremendous.
01:40Well, I would say, first of all, I want to, I would compliment him on his acting, because
01:46he's a really wonderful actor.
01:48Secondly, I would compliment him on who he is as a person, and how he and his family are.
01:55And when I say family, I don't even mean his daughters and his wife, who are his family,
01:59but he has a, he has a whole crew of people he works with, not just on our movie, but the
02:06films that you actually do, it's the same, you know, same crew, same people.
02:10He's very loyal, and it's exciting to be around people, because, you know, this is a very
02:15transactional business, and...
02:17You're the same.
02:18And it's important to stay loyal to those people, and so I was very happy to see all of that.
02:23Me too.
02:23Pretty nice answers, then.
02:25We tried, that's it.
02:26That's it.
02:27And that's why we will never do it again.
02:29No, we're finished.
02:29It's been quite a big week in the enemy office this week, because we're a music magazine.
02:34Yes.
02:34Can you, do you...
02:35The Taylor Swift album.
02:36That's it, yeah.
02:37Sure.
02:37And I read that you two have some big Swifties in the family.
02:42Yeah.
02:42Yeah.
02:43Does anyone not have a Swiftie in a family?
02:44If you have any human being in your family, it's probably a Swiftie.
02:49My kids are eight.
02:51And they're loving it.
02:52Age eight, you know, this showgirl album might be a little...
02:56Yeah.
02:57A little scary.
02:57I haven't seen it yet.
02:58No, it's good.
02:59It's good.
02:59I don't know, but I'm just worried about an eight-year-old.
03:01The eight-year-old will learn, too.
03:03My eight-year-olds fell in love with Hamilton now.
03:06They sing Hamilton.
03:08And I'm driving to school the other day, and they're like, how does this whore run a bitch?
03:12And I'm like, oh, shit.
03:15It's all right.
03:16They'll survive it.
03:17Anyway, six months from now.
03:18They're learning history along the way.
03:20Exactly, man.
03:20Exactly, man.
03:22But the album's awesome.
03:23The Taylor album's awesome.
03:25Have you managed to get to any of the era's shows when they were on with your kids?
03:28No.
03:28Yes.
03:29I did not.
03:30I did.
03:30Oh, you did?
03:30Okay.
03:31He needs to take George next time.
03:32He takes me almost everywhere now.
03:34Well, here's why there's certain places I can't take him.
03:38Yeah.
03:39There's a commotion.
03:41He brings a commotion.
03:42Yes, I cost him.
03:43Mostly by the police.
03:45Cops.
03:45Yes, they get mad.
03:46He stumbles in, throwing whiskey bottles.
03:51That's Kentucky in me.
03:53Actually, doing the research for this interview, speaking to people around the office, one of
03:57the things that British people seem to know about you, George, is that you have a house
04:00near Reading.
04:01Yes.
04:02Yeah.
04:03But I'm not allowed to say that.
04:04Why not?
04:05I have to say it's near Henley, apparently.
04:08Oh, really?
04:09Because it's posh.
04:09I sound more posh if I say that.
04:12I live on an island.
04:14Have you been to my house here?
04:15Yes.
04:16No, no.
04:16No, he hasn't been.
04:17I've been to a couple of hours.
04:18I live on a little island, man.
04:20So the thing that most of our readers know about Reading is the Reading Music Festival.
04:26Sure.
04:26Are you aware of that?
04:27Yes, I am aware of it.
04:28Have you ever come into contact with it?
04:29I have not been to the Reading Music Festival.
04:31Too much traffic?
04:32There's a lot of traffic getting over there.
04:33And also, you guys are driving around the wrong side of the road, which also makes it harder
04:39for me to travel.
04:41Especially when I'm drinking with all the whiskey.
04:42But would you...
04:45See, I told everyone at the office that I was going to try and convince you to get to Reading
04:49Music Festival one day.
04:50Right.
04:50Because it's like...
04:50It's like Glastonbury.
04:51It's probably the second biggest music festival in the UK.
04:55Who closed the show?
04:55Is it really that big?
04:56I think that, because it's twinned with Leeds Music Festival.
04:59Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:59And it's kind of a rite of passage for particularly our readers, after you've done your GCSEs in
05:05Year 11, when you're like 16, to go and have a blowout afterwards.
05:08Right.
05:09And I just think it would be improved...
05:10Their experience would be improved so much if they just sort of, after a few beers, looked
05:14around at, oh, George Clooney's here.
05:15I think that would, in general, you know, a few beers though, you could put anybody there
05:19and they'll think it's me.
05:20It's actually only an eight minute drive from...
05:22Oh, did you...
05:23We'll blow out where you live, just so you don't get any...
05:25Yeah.
05:26See, look at that.
05:27I could...
05:28Eight minutes.
05:29You could walk there.
05:30By the way, I do walk there, because we walk to Reading.
05:31Yeah.
05:32That's cool.
05:33All the time.
05:34And there's an inn on there, I think, that you frequent quite often.
05:37There's the Bull.
05:38The Bull, that's it.
05:39Yeah, the Bull's fantastic.
05:40The Bull Inn, that's what it is.
05:41We walk there all the time.
05:42The Bull Inn.
05:43Yeah, you see that.
05:44It's an easy walk.
05:45You walk along the Tens.
05:46How do people react when they're in their local pub and George Clooney's there?
05:49Well, first of all, I make them call me George Clooney.
05:52Both names.
05:53He's Mr. Both Names.
05:54Yeah, even my wife now.
05:56She's like, hey, George Clooney.
05:58And I'm like, honey, come on.
05:59The kids.
06:00One of the twins.
06:01I thought when you finally stopped doing it, it was really helpful in the scenes.
06:07That's a crazy thing.
06:10Everything you thought you were, isn't true.
06:18We ask everyone this, but what's an album that you always go back to?
06:22If you had to pick one album, what would it be and why?
06:25What's that?
06:26And not your own.
06:28Difficult, man.
06:30Yeah.
06:31Okay.
06:32One entire album.
06:34Oh, you know what?
06:35Entire album I listened to, no problem, Hole, Live Through This.
06:40I wouldn't expect you to say that.
06:43But tell me more about Hole.
06:44When did you first listen to that album?
06:46I remember I was on tour.
06:48I was doing stand-up and that album just came out and I was in my car a lot and I listened
06:53to the track one and I was like, ooh, that was nasty.
06:57That was track two.
06:59It was like two for two.
07:00And then I just said, I guess this whole album is going to be great.
07:03Yeah.
07:04This whole album.
07:05There you go.
07:06I didn't do it.
07:07You see what you did.
07:08I didn't do it, but you found it.
07:09Oh, I heard it.
07:10You found it for me.
07:11Dang.
07:12Have you ever met Courtney?
07:13Yes.
07:14Because I know you were on the SNL cast when Nirvana played a few times.
07:17Sure, sure, sure.
07:18Was that when you met her?
07:19Maybe.
07:20Maybe.
07:21But I know her and she's very funny.
07:22Yeah.
07:23She's an actress too.
07:24She's great.
07:25Great.
07:26Absolutely.
07:27And I saw him when I was, I remember I was in Missouri.
07:30I had a standup gig and I ended and a friend of mine said, you should come over to such
07:37and such theater at Hole Zone.
07:38I was like, Hole is here?
07:40Let's go.
07:41And I went over there and Drew Barrymore was going out with the guitar player at the
07:45time.
07:46And I remember I was just sitting way in the back and all of a sudden the show was incredible
07:51and Drew came out.
07:52They introduced Drew and she came out and I was like, I know that girl.
07:55And it was a cool night.
07:56That's a cool night.
07:57It was a really cool night.
07:58What about you, George?
07:59You got an album?
08:00Oh man, you know.
08:01I know you love Dinah Washington.
08:02I do love Dinah Washington.
08:03You know what though?
08:04I would say like there's tons of songs for swinging lovers.
08:06I mean, I could go really old school, but this is still old school, but I think kind
08:12of in the classic, there's not a bad track on it.
08:16Sgt.
08:17Peppers.
08:18I mean, there's just not a bad track.
08:19And it was such a departure.
08:21And, you know, if you think about what those guys did from 64 to 69 and how music changed
08:29from the button up guys singing, you know, Rubber Soul.
08:34And then all of a sudden it's Sgt.
08:36Peppers and everything changed.
08:38Society changed.
08:39The way we dress changed.
08:40The way we thought about things changed.
08:41The way we thought about things changed.
08:42And the music changed.
08:43So, and when I listen to those songs, you know, my wife, it's funny because, you know,
08:47she knows all the Beatles songs, but a lot of times it'll be because somebody else sang
08:52them.
08:53And she'll be like, oh yeah, that's, and I go, no, no, no.
08:55No, no, that's the Beatles.
08:56That's the Beatles.
08:57That's the Beatles.
08:58That's cool.
08:59That's a good album though.
09:00That's incredible.
09:01When I was a kid and first heard Sgt.
09:03Pepper and it came with the words on the back.
09:06I remember he's pointing at somebody and it's always like the album.
09:09Oh, somebody's dead.
09:10Picks in a hole.
09:11Remember we thought Paul was dead?
09:12Oh yeah.
09:13Remember that?
09:14Two great picks.
09:15Thanks so much for chatting with us guys.
09:16Absolute pleasure.
09:17Cut.
09:18Can we go again?
09:19Really?
09:20I'd like another one.
09:23All my memories are movies.
09:24That's what movies are for us.
09:31Pieces of time.
09:32Pieces of time.
