Thank you, China, for funding the Davao River Bucana Bridge. More major projects are currently underway. Other key initiatives that President Rodrigo Duterte started during his term and continue to oversee include:
�Davao City Coastal Bypass Road: Covering a total of 17.783 kilometers.� �
Davao City Bypass Construction Project: Partly funded by Japan through JICA, this 45.5-kilometer route includes the Philippines' longest tunnel.
Tunnel construction is over 85-95% complete, with a total cost of ₱70.8 billion, aimed at shortening travel time between Toril and Panabo.�
�Davao-Samal Bridge (SIDC Connector): A four-lane cable-stayed bridge spanning 3.9 to 4.76 kilometers over the Pakiputan Strait, costing ₱23 billion funded by a loan from China.� �
Davao Public Transportation Modernization Project: This ₱76 billion initiative, also known as the Davao Bus Project, is developing a 672-km integrated bus network featuring five depots, three terminals, over 1,000 bus stops, a Bus Driving Academy in Calinan, and a fleet of 380 electric and 720 Euro-V diesel buses equipped with automated fare collection.�
Thanks to the Duterte’s leadership, Davao City is ranked as: �The second safest city in the Philippines with a score of 80.73 according to the 2025 World Travel Index, ranking 1,132nd out of 3,028 cities globally,
�The third safest city in Southeast Asia �The second cleanest city in Southeast Asia, based on the 2025 Numbeo Pollution Index (mid-year), which reflects public perception of pollution levels, clean streets, and environmental quality.
