00:00Each year, Behind the Lines leaves visitors in awe of the wit and creativity of the country's
00:07best political cartoonists. 2025 is no exception. It features all the usual suspects, but it
00:14also highlights the issues that have been front of mind for Australians.
00:18This year's theme is Are We Rolling? A nod to how 2025 was a mix of tragedy, drama and
00:24comedy.
00:25There were lots of thrills and spills and romance and heartbreak and strange and surprising
00:29plot twists, so we thought cinema might be a pretty good idea for a theme of the year.
00:33The federal election dominates, so do the twists and turns of Donald Trump's second
00:39term in office. Cost of living, housing and climate change are also key themes, as are
00:45the wars in Gaza and Ukraine. Master of the pocket cartoon, Melbourne's Matt Golding, has
00:52been named Political Cartoonist of the Year, the second time he snagged the title.
00:57To actually be paid to do a job you love, that is the prize, every morning you wake up and
01:02you get one. So when this was sort of run through, it's just like a cherry on top.
01:08The exhibition feels like a light-hearted trip down a tumultuous memory lane with plenty of
01:13laugh-out-loud moments. It's free to see and will be on display until this time next year.
01:19Thank you very much.
