Is Liverpool's Premier League title defence the worst of all time?
Transcript
00:00Is Liverpool's title defence this season the worst in Premier League history?
00:04Leicester are statistically the worst. They dropped a whopping 37 points and 11 places the following season.
00:11But let's be fair, Leicester then and Liverpool now are not comparable and they shouldn't be painted with this brush.
00:17Same goes for Blackburn.
00:19Chelsea the season before dropped the same points and nine places when they utterly imploded under Mourinho.
00:24They did, however, make a net profit the previous summer with Pedro, Abdul Rahman Baba and Asmir Begovic being their main signings.
00:31Not exactly a platform for success.
00:33What about United under Moyes? They delivered their worst ever points total in the Premier League.
00:37But with an ageing squad and a manager who ultimately was out of his depth, is this really much of a surprise?
00:42Context is key. This is a Liverpool team with three all-time Premier League greats still at the club.
00:47They broke the Premier League transfer record twice in one summer alongside another top 10 fee.
00:51£450 million spent, an almost unanimous view that this squad should walk the league this season.
00:58If they carry on in this vein, they may not statistically be the worst.
01:01But contextually, this is nothing short of a historic disaster for the reigning champions.
