Despite not scoring or assisting so far in the Premier League, Wirtz has brought so much more to Liverpool this season
Transcript
00:00You've got 60 seconds to defend Florian Wurtz.
00:03See, I don't think Wurtz has been a bad signing.
00:05It might be unpopular.
00:07I mean, when you see social media, everyone just looks at goals and assists.
00:09But if you actually use your eyes and actually watch him play,
00:13you will see that he's clearly not a bad signing.
00:15I know 100 million sounds ridiculous.
00:17It's a crazy figure.
00:18And the modern market has made this quite normal now.
00:20But when you actually talk about a player like Wurtz,
00:23you're seeing a player that is so technically brilliant.
00:25I don't think they've even played particularly well yet, Liverpool.
00:27And that's not just Wurtz.
00:28It's talking about the whole team.
00:29I think when Wurtz came over, there was a misconception over the sort of player that he is.
00:33But he's clearly not just the luxury item that you want him to be.
00:36He can be that sort of nitty-gritty, that small bit-part player
00:40that can do the dirty work on the pitch just as much as anything else.
00:43And yes, OK, goals and assists do matter ultimately for a player of his sort of stature.
00:48But if you watch what he does,
00:49he's effectively one of those centre midfielders that can control the game as well.
00:54Next to Ryan Gravenberg, I know that Gravenberg started the season immensely.
00:57But I think he'll only come on to be a better player.
00:59As he gets that confidence, as he gets that Premier League experience,
01:02I can almost guarantee that goals and assists will come.
01:04So yes, I can back Florian Wurtz by far.
01:07He's not a bad siding.
01:08In fact, he'll be the complete opposite by the end of the season.
01:11That's my unpopular opinion.
