00:00The Little Match Girl
00:02On a cold New Year's Eve, snowflakes were gently falling from the sky.
00:12Everyone was busy preparing for the New Year.
00:16The city was decorated with colorful lights,
00:19and the bright star on top of the Christmas tree made everyone happy.
00:24People wore thick coats and did not forget their scarves and hats.
00:32Some went to the market to shop, while others hurried home.
00:37And of course, there were children joyfully running around having snowball fights.
00:44Their cheerful laughter echoed through the streets.
00:48But on the other corner of the street, there stood a girl different from the other children.
00:56She had neither a thick coat nor a woolen hat on her head.
01:02She wore only a torn, thin dress and oversized slippers on her feet, standing all alone.
01:10Though the cold seeped into her bones and made her shiver,
01:13she watched the children playing snowball fights with a smile.
01:19One of the children mockingly shouted,
01:22Look, the Little Match Girl is here again.
01:26She truly was a Little Match Girl.
01:29With eyes watering from the cold and a small cardboard box in her hand,
01:35she tried to sell matches to people.
01:38In her trembling, delicate voice, she called out to passers-by,
01:42I have matches, would you like to buy some?
01:48But no one heard her, nor even saw her.
01:52As the box she held tightly grew icy in her hands and almost slipped away,
01:59she heard the sound of a car rushing toward her.
02:04When she turned her head, she saw the car was about to hit her.
02:08Her face froze in the light of the headlights.
02:14A man shouted,
02:16Get off the road!
02:18The girl quickly threw herself to the side of the road.
02:22As her frail body fell to the ground,
02:25both her slippers flew off and the box slipped from her hands.
02:30When she got up, she saw another child grab her slippers and run away.
02:37But those are my slippers!
02:39She cried after him.
02:41But the child quickly disappeared.
02:44The little girl desperately began picking up her scattered matches.
02:48Then she moved to the wall and tried for hours to sell matches on her bare feet.
02:57I have matches.
02:59Would you like to buy some?
03:01I'm selling matches.
03:03But no one, absolutely no one, paid attention to her faint voice.
03:09The match girl's eyes filled with tears as she felt the icy ground beneath her feet.
03:16If only she could sell a few matches.
03:20She could go home and at least have a bowl of hot soup.
03:25The poor girl raised her red hands from the cold to her face and began to cry
03:30because that day she had not sold a single match.
03:35The match, struggling to stay on her feet, the little girl could no longer endure it.
03:40Sadly, she sat down by the wall.
03:44Taking a match from the box, she rubbed it against the wall,
03:48barely holding it with her numb fingers.
03:51The match immediately burst into flame.
03:56The poor little one tried to warm her hands a little with that tiny flame.
04:00In that moment, she found herself in a warm room, in front of a roaring stove.
04:08She wore a thick coat and furry shoes on her feet.
04:13Her hands were no longer cold.
04:15She even got so warm that she began to sweat.
04:19Then the match in her hand went out.
04:22With the little flame gone, that sweet dream also ended.
04:27The girl lit another match.
04:30At that moment, an icy wind blew.
04:33She quickly turned her face to the wall and shielded the flame with her hand so it would not go out.
04:41As the girl watched the flame, the wall in front of her slowly disappeared.
04:47In its place appeared a wide, warm room.
04:50On the table, covered with a white cloth, there were all kinds of food.
04:56And around it sat kind, smiling people.
05:00One of them invited the little match girl to the table.
05:03Another cut a piece of roasted meat from the dish in the center and handed it to her.
05:10The girl thanked them and began to eat the meat.
05:13At that moment, she felt she was both filling her hungry stomach and fulfilling her longing to dine with a family.
05:25Joyful laughter filled the table, and everyone was exchanging the New Year gifts they had received.
05:33A woman said,
05:34Would you like some mashed potatoes as well, to the match girl?
05:38The girl's eyes filled with tears, and she smiled shyly.
05:44Because this woman looked just like her mother,
05:48the little girl ate some of the mashed potatoes and drank a warm bowl of soup.
05:54For the first time in a long while, she felt so full.
05:59In that moment, she smiled, feeling safe and loved.
06:04Then she reached with her fork to eat a piece of the chocolate cake placed on her plate.
06:11But at that moment, the match she held burned out.
06:15She cried, throwing the burnt match quickly to the ground.
06:19The smiling faces vanished one by one.
06:23The beautiful table gave way to cold stone walls.
06:27The cold, snowy air and that great silence surrounded her again.
06:34But on the little girl's face, the trace of that brief happiness still remained.
06:41She quickly lit another match.
06:44This time, she felt a strange excitement inside.
06:49With the flame of the match, she closed her eyes and began to dream.
06:55It was a summer night.
06:57She was sitting in the meadow, under a big tree.
07:02Little birds were singing in the branches.
07:05The sky was sparkling, and the stars seemed close enough to touch if she reached out her hand.
07:13Suddenly, her grandmother, with whom she used to play as a child, appeared before her.
07:19She was dressed in white, with a big smile on her face.
07:23When the match girl saw her grandmother, her eyes filled with tears of joy this time.
07:31Grandmother, she called out.
07:33Then a star fell from the sky.
07:37Just as the little girl was about to make a wish, her grandmother said,
07:42When you see a star fall from the sky, know that someone on earth has taken its place, my dear girl.
07:51Then she gently disappeared.
07:56The little girl cried after her,
07:59Wait, don't go, grandmother.
08:01I've missed you so much.
08:04When the match in her hand burned to ashes, she awoke from her dream.
08:10To see her grandmother again, she quickly lit another match with her trembling hands in the cold.
08:17When the flame flared, the snowy street turned into her grandmother's small, warm house from the past.
08:28The match girl sat down by her grandmother's side, who was sitting near the stove.
08:35Her grandmother was happily teaching her how to knit.
08:39Look, this is how you take the stitch, my girl.
08:44Now watch carefully.
08:46The little girl looked at her grandmother's soft hands that occasionally caressed her head.
08:52The same soft, lavender-scented hands still filled her nose with their fragrance.
08:58Her grandmother handed her the red mittens she had knitted.
09:03These are for you, my dear girl, so your hands will always stay warm.
09:10The girl slipped the mittens onto her little fingers and hugged her grandmother tightly.
09:17In that embrace, the match girl completely forgot she was in the street, hungry and alone.
09:25Yet another match burned out in her hands.
09:31When she awoke from her dream, she quickly lit another match, then another and another.
09:41Each time, she gazed longingly into her grandmother's eyes.
09:46But she had only one match left.
09:49And without hesitation, the little match girl lit it.
09:56In her dream, she was once again in the meadow with her grandmother.
10:02But this time, everything was even brighter.
10:07Her grandmother reached out her gentle hand to the little girl.
10:11The love on the girl's face made her grandmother smile, too.
10:15She wished that moment would never end.
10:20She held her grandmother's hands tightly.
10:23When the last match in her hand turned to ash, for the first time, she did not wake from her dream.
10:33She rose up to the sky together with her grandmother.
10:37The little girl suddenly felt very relieved.
10:40For her, there was no longer hunger or cold.
10:43She felt only love and peace.
10:47At that moment, another star fell across the sky.
10:54In the morning, passers-by found the little girl lying by the wall, her eyes closed but with a sweet smile on her face.
11:04At her feet lay many burnt-out matches.
11:07And what dreams she had seen in the flames of those matches, no one could ever know anymore.
11:17I was like, time to truthfully, no one could ever๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ for her physically.
