The U.S. War Department defended ongoing military raids in Somalia, insisting the operations do not mark a return to long-term conflict. A senior official said the administration is following an “America First” approach, emphasizing that the United States is not waging a “forever war,” pursuing regime change, or engaging in nation-building efforts. Instead, officials claim the limited raids are focused on targeted security objectives and do not signal deeper involvement in Somalia’s internal affairs.

00:00hundreds of U.S. troops into fortified caves in Somalia to kill like five guys.
00:04And I think it's a good question as to why the U.S. military is still in Somalia.
00:08Thank you for the question. So I can assure you, right, this is an America first department of war
00:13and president. So we aren't conducting forever wars in Somalia. We're not seeking regime change
00:19or, you know, we're not nation building. But I will say that this department's narrowly scoped,
00:24intelligence driven counterterrorism operations in places like Somalia, alongside our partners,
00:31allow us to protect the American homeland from terrorist threats and to protect our interests.
00:36So we will continue to make sure that the American people are kept safe. That's our utmost priority.
00:42But, you know, we're not isolationists. We're also not neocons. We're realists. We understand
00:46that threats face the American people every single day. We take that incredibly seriously.
00:51But at the same time, we're always going to make sure that we're putting America first.
00:55And if strikes in Somalia in 2025 and there was another there was a raid carried out in some caves
01:02and I'm quoting former Congressman Matt Gates, who I didn't realize would be here today. But
01:06he asked why we're sending, quote, hundreds of U.S. troops into fortified caves in Somalia to kill
01:12like five guys. And I think it's a good question as to why the U.S. military is still in Somalia.

02:04And if I could follow up on Laura's question, actually, but from a different angle, she mentioned
02:09that are we reassessing our relationship with Qatar because of funding of the Muslim Brotherhood.
02:14It's been widely documented in mainstream Israeli papers that the Israeli government funded Hamas,
02:18which we also designate as a terrorist organization. Are we therefore reassessing our relationship
02:22with Israel because of this?
02:23That would be a better question for the State Department, as they're the ones who have those
02:27foreign diplomatic channels.
