Trump calls Somali migrants 'garbage' during cabinet meeting

Trump's remarks came days after his administration announced it would halt all asylum decisions following the shooting of two US National Guard soldiers in Washington.

00:00The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications, including green card and U.S. citizenship processing,
00:08filed by immigrants from 19 non-European countries, including Afghanistan and Somalia.
00:14According to an official memo, the new policy stems from the attack on U.S. National Guard members in Washington last week,
00:22in which an Afghan man was arrested as a suspect.
00:25In fact, Trump also stepped up his rhetoric against Somalis, disparaging the country and accusing Somali immigrants of not contributing to U.S. welfare.
00:35I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you.
00:38Somebody said, oh, that's not politically correct. I don't care. I don't want them in our country.
00:43Their country is no good for a reason. Their country stinks, and we don't want them in our country.

00:50According to U.S. media reports, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, has been directed by the Trump administration
00:57to target undocumented Somali immigrants in Minneapolis, home to the largest Somali immigrant population in the U.S.
