Former digital minister Audrey Tang is the first Taiwanese recipient of the Right Livelihood Award. She was chosen for her work on advocating for the social use of digital technology to empower citizens.

00:00Former Digital Minister Audrey Tang is with Sweden to receive a 2025 Right Livelihood Award.
00:07The honor recognizes individuals or groups for achievements in social or environmental change
00:12and is known as Sweden's alternative to the Nobel Prize.
00:16Tang was selected for her work on, quote,
00:18advancing the social use of digital technology to empower citizens,
00:22renew democracy and heal divides.
00:24She is the first Taiwanese recipient.
00:26While in Sweden, Tang spoke about how to harness the power of artificial intelligence for good.
00:33I believe we can steer AI away from addictive intelligence
00:38that lures people in through doom scrolling, through synthetic intimacy,
00:43into assistive intelligence where AI systems are steered by the community in the service of communities.
00:51Other Right Livelihood recipients this year include the groups Justice for Myanmar
00:55and Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms.
