The government is developing a registration system to collect biometric data on all refugees and asylum seekers in the country, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Dec 2).
Under National Security Council Directive No. 23, the system will provide official data, which until now has been managed by the UNHCR.
Once fully implemented, the programme is expected to cover around 200,000 refugees, though exact figures are not yet available.
