00:00From the return of yet another beloved Keanu Reeves feature figure,
00:03to a magical comeback for a much-loved heist series,
00:06these are those movie franchise continuations you likely had no idea were very much on the horizon.
00:12Well, not anymore, because Gareth here from WhatCulture.com,
00:15and here are 10 movie sequels you didn't realize were happening.
00:18Number 10, Gladiator 2.
00:20For what feels like an age, Ridley Scott has been entertaining the idea of a follow-up to his 2000 historical epic by the name of Gladiator.
00:28And though the little element of Russell Crowe's Maximus not actually making it out of that Oscar-winning tale alive
00:33may have made that sequel concept seem pretty foolish at one point,
00:37that hasn't stopped the director and writer David Scarpa from apparently finding a way to reignite the Gladiator machine.
00:43According to Scott himself just last year,
00:45the script for said long-awaited second chapter of the Gladiator story is now officially ready to go.
00:51With the legendary director gearing himself up to step back into Maximus' world
00:54for a tale set 25 to 30 years on from the prior entry.
00:58As it explained to Deadline in November 2021,
01:01it's already been written, we have a good footprint, a good logical place to go.
01:05You can't just do another Gladiator-type movie, you've got to follow,
01:08there's enough components from the first one to pick up the ball and continue it.
01:12And while Crowe's involvement with the upcoming sequel hasn't been officially confirmed at time of recording,
01:16the Australian star who helped put the first film on the map is heavily expected to make his presence felt in some capacity,
01:23with much of the incoming story being said to centre around Lucius, the son of Lucilla.
01:27Number 9. A Quiet Place Day 1
01:29This one technically leans more towards the prequel category,
01:32but it'll still likely come as a welcome surprise to many
01:35to hear that we haven't actually seen the last of all things A Quiet Place on the big screen.
01:39And while a follow-up to the events of 2020's Part 2 felt pretty much certain on the back of the first two outings for the Abbott family,
01:46smashing it at the box office,
01:48and was ultimately confirmed by John Krasinski earlier this year,
01:51the fact another Quiet Place story will also be making its way into existence in the near future
01:56was a development that largely slipped under the radar.
01:59Said spin-off by the name of A Quiet Place Day 1
02:01will focus on the events that unfolded on the first day the series' terrifying aliens made their presence known on Earth.
02:08Further expanding on the second film's chilling opening flashback sequence,
02:12and though Krasinski will reportedly be returning to direct the third entry in the main Quiet Place saga,
02:17the Office star will move into a producing role for the spin-off,
02:20with Pig's Michael Sarnoski instead stepping into the director position
02:23for the no-doubt horrifying flick set to be released in March 2024.
02:28Number 8. A Cloverfield Sequel
02:30It turns out that Paramount Pictures are far from finished with this particular anthology series.
02:35As reported by Deadline last month,
02:37Yet another dose of Cloverfield madness is set to be unleashed by the studio
02:40on the back of the last entry in the series by the name of The Cloverfield Paradox,
02:44released on that occasion by Netflix, not exactly setting the world on fire.
02:48This next installment will see Babak Anvari directing,
02:51and Joe Barton penning a script that, as with just about any Cloverfield project,
02:56has had its details kept strictly underwrapped at this current moment in time.
02:59Though it is worth noting how the upcoming sequel's producer, J.J. Abrams,
03:03was quick to state that the film would be a true, dedicated Cloverfield sequel,
03:08when nudged on the matter at 2018's CinemaCon.
03:10Could this be a more traditional follow-up to 2008's found footage smash hit?
03:15Sources are already stating said found footage style won't be present,
03:19so it remains to be seen what Abrams and his team are cooking up with this latest piece of Cloverfield chaos.
03:24Number 7. Constantine 2
03:26Joining the likes of Bill & Ted and The Matrix franchises,
03:29both finding new ways to unleash another much-loved Keanu Reeves entity back into fans' lives,
03:35it looks like none other than John Constantine himself is set for another round of supernatural mysteries on the big screen, too.
03:41Who'd have thunk it?
03:42Both Reeves and the original Constantine film's director, Francis Lawrence,
03:46have agreed to join forces once again with Warner Bros.
03:48for a planned sequel to that 2005 super-horror caper,
03:52with Akiva Goldsman being brought in to pen the script for the long-awaited Constantine comeback.
03:57Not much is known about the follow-up outside of Reeves very much dusting off his supernatural exorcist and demonologist cult mind,
04:03but judging from Lawrence's comments of it being great to do the really dark, scary version,
04:08when talking about the potential of stepping back into the underworld for another Constantine tale back in 2011,
04:13there's every chance fans may be treated to a much darker and more horrifying take on the character this time around.
04:19Number 6, The Expendables 4
04:21Despite at one point looking like the adrenaline-fueled, action-packed series had very much had its day in the sun,
04:27it seems as though Sylvester Stallone's big, meaty franchise is set to finally get its long-awaited fourth installment.
04:33On the back of the third Expendables ensemble flick not exactly smashing it at the box office in the way the prior two entries had,
04:40news of Stallone apparently walking away from the property over creative differences in 2017,
04:44looked to all but kill any hopes of a violent final hurrah for Sly.
04:49However, by September 2021, bridges were mended to the point of actually beginning filming on the last outing for Barney Ross,
04:56with the latest chapter of the star-studded action series being reportedly centred around a nuclear conflict
05:01between Russia and the US that the titular characters find themselves being dragged into.
05:06And in regards to precisely when this Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Coteau starring and Scott while directing ride will actually land in cinemas,
05:14well, a September 2023 release was recently finally made official by Lionsgate.
05:19Number 5. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
05:21Matt Reeves' final chapter in the Andy Serkis-led Caesar Apes tale felt like the sort of conclusion that would be a pretty tough act to follow for anyone.
05:30But that's precisely what 20th Century Studios are reportedly setting out to do,
05:34with the recent announcement of yet another Apes movie very much heading fans' way in the coming years.
05:39Picking the story up several years after the ending of that last entry,
05:43Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will star the likes of The Witcher's Freya Allen and the Orville's Peter Macon,
05:49with Owen Teague set to play the film's lead ape Cornelius, the son of Serkis' Caesar.
05:54Little else is known about what the flick will entail at this point,
05:57but the first image released by 20th Century Studios depicts Teague's Cornelius on a horse,
06:02set against the backdrop of a waterfall and ruins,
06:05as he greets an eagle about to land on his arm.
06:07How majestic.
06:09Maze Runner's Wes Ball will also be in charge of directing duties this time around,
06:13with the latest chapter in the long-running Apes saga making its way into theatres in 2024.
06:18Number 4, Transformers Rise of the Beasts
06:20It's safe to say that next to no one was really desperately clamouring to see yet another chunk of robot fighting and mechanical mayhem
06:27be pumped into existence on the back of the last lacklustre Transformers blockbuster, The Last Knight.
06:33But then a little spin-off picture by the name of Bumblebee became a thing in 2018,
06:36and appeared to almost single-handedly jumpstart a new wave of interest in all things Autobots and Decepticons.
06:43So much so that yet another attempt to restore some respect to the Transformers brand is very much on its way into theatres next year.
06:50With Rise of the Beast picking up a few years after the events of the aforementioned Bumblebee tale,
06:55this time around the flick will see figures and creatures from the Beast Wars spin-off TV series introduced into the transforming bot mix.
07:02With Maximals, Predacons, and Terracons all set to make their presence known during the 2023 outing,
07:08and joining a returning Peter Cullen as the unmistakable voice of Optimus Prime,
07:12is none other than Ron Perlman going full Optimus Primal 2.
07:16If all that wasn't enough, a brand new trilogy is also expected to get underway following on from Rise of the Beasts.
07:22So buckle up for an endless supply of bashing robots.
07:25Number 3, A New American Pie
07:27Though the American Pie brand has continually spawned countless throwaway presents spin-offs over the years,
07:33with everything from Bandcamp to The Naked Mal not exactly living long in the memory,
07:37the central OG character's tale look to have reached its natural and somewhat satisfying nostalgia-filled conclusion with 2012's reunion.
07:45But a decade on from the original series' final outing,
07:48it now looks as though the pie is on the verge of being given an entirely new flavour,
07:51with it recently being announced that Definition Please filmmaker Sanjata Day will be penning the next instalment of the franchise.
07:58And while information on the plot of this latest pie picture has not been revealed at time of recording,
08:03Day's original pitch and the story that was born out of it is being described by those in the know as a fresh take on the series.
08:10With the previous films managing to rope in nearly $1 billion at the box office already,
08:14it's not too difficult to see why Universal 1440 Entertainment are so keen to stick this particular sex comedy treat back in the oven.
08:22So it'll be interesting to see how Day approaches a rather sensitive subject and genre of flick that likely needs a bit of an update
08:29and rethink before getting unleashed onto a modern audience.
08:32Number 2, Armor Wars
08:34Initially conceived as part of Marvel Studios' never-ending stream of Disney Plus TV offerings,
08:38there was a point when it felt as though the Don Cheadle starring Armor Wars was in real danger of getting lost in the shuffle
08:45by the time it actually touched down on the streaming service.
08:48Seemingly feeling the same way or simply sensing there was more potential in having Cheadle's Colonel James Rhodes
08:53strut his stuff as War Machine on the big screen rather than in a six-part series,
08:58it was recently announced that the MCU sequel will now actually be making its way into the world as a movie instead.
09:04Perhaps this is a response to some fans' criticism of many of the recent Marvel,
09:08and other Disney live-action series for that matter,
09:11often feeling as though they're spreading their story material a little thin in order to fit the multiple-episode runtime.
09:18Or maybe the tale being crafted by Ysir Lester just suits the cinematic realm more than the small-screen one.
09:23Either way, what fans first expected to be War Machine's corner of the TV Marvel Universe
09:27now looks to be blasting into theatres between 2023 and 2025 instead.
09:32Number 1, Now You See Me 3
09:34If there's one thing in this world Ruben Fleischer loves more than Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson,
09:39it's that majestic world of wonder known as magic.
09:42Well, that's how the director put it recently when discussing his reasons for saying yes
09:46to helming the latest piece of no-doubt mind-blowing spectacle to tumble out of the Now You See Me series.
09:52With Fleischer collaborating with the two stars in question during the Zombieland flicks,
09:56there's every reason to believe the director will once again be able to produce,
09:59um, magic on the third time of Askin. Yay!
10:02With the figure behind Uncharted and Venom also confessing to being something of a lifelong fan of heist movies,
10:08it's clear the director is simply champing at the bit to get going on a follow-up to the series' last financially successful outing,
10:15claiming when the thieves are magicians, the opportunities are endless.
10:18Though no official casting announcements have been made at this point,
10:21Fleischer's name-dropping of Eisenberg and Harrelson seems to suggest they're dusting off their playing cards for the third flick.
10:27But it's still not known whether the likes of Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo and Morgan Freeman will be returning for Now You See Me 3 at this time,
10:34or even when the impending prequel will arrive in theatres.
10:38Yet, as Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane would also note,
10:42for everyone we've kept in suspense, the wait is almost over.
10:46Well, you heard him, folks.
10:47And that's our list of any other movie sequels you didn't realise were happening.
